23.01.2022 B l e n d i n g A crucial skill for all when learning to read. Blending helps students to decode unfamiliar words using letter-sound patterns when reading. All... children need to become highly skilled at blending to form recognisable words. If you have a child that struggles to blend, try using continuant consonant sounds. These can be stretched so your little one has more time to hear the sounds. Word building and phoneme manipulation games are always a win too! 23.01.2022 Today we issued a media release, together with the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne in response to the alarming spike in child deaths from unintentional... injuries. Sadly, since August alone, 8 little Victorian lives have been lost from unintentional injuries - often referred to as accidents. This is almost half of the average number of unintentional deaths (17) which occur each year . With school holidays just around the corner, we encourage all parents to please be mindful of potential injury hazards in their home and to put strategies in place to help reduce injury risks. Ash Napolitano, mum of 2-year-old Hunter, bravely spoke to Kidsafe as she tries to come to terms with the devastating grief of losing her son in a dam drowning last month. You cant be complacent. Not for a second. The way that this has impacted me, and my family is raw and painful. Little ones are so fast and so curious, and we have to be more attentive", she said. Our 'Parent's Guide to Kidsafe homes', provides practical advice and a safety checklist to download, for more info please visit https://www.kidsafevic.com.au//Kidsafe_Parents-Guide-to-Ho To read the media release, please visit https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/alarm-at-spike-in-childrens-/
