25.01.2022 Christmas is here! At risk of sounding like the Grinch, food safety during pregnancy is something that doesn’t change over the Christmas and holiday period. In fact, with a range of specialty food items and Christmas parties/outdoor events where food may be at more risk of sitting in dangerous temperature zonesit is often a time where some extra precaution is needed. Particular things to be mindful of over Christmas include: - Avoiding deli meats eg ham/salami/cold sliced tu...rkey and soft-cheeses (unless thoroughly cooked to >75degrees and eaten promptly, so yay for leftovers going on a pizza!!!) - Pâté While the nibbles platter has already been hit for 6 with a ban on soft cheeses, pâté is also on the ‘best-to-avoid’ list - Avoiding raw seafood and ready-to-eat chilled prawns - Raw egg in foods such as aoli and homemade mayo - Soft-serve ice-cream (this doesn’t rule out regular ice-cream on those hot day beach outings) - Stuffing from the Christmas chook or Turkey (unless cooked separately) While it’s recognised that many people apply an individual approach here, the above recommendations are based on food safety principles to minimise the risk of exposure to Salmonella and Listeria.

22.01.2022 "Fibre plays a big role in overall health and wellbeing, including during pregnancy. Recommendations are that women consume ~28g of fibre per day when pregnant. Combining this with adequate water intake can play a big part in helping you to manage the constipation which many experience at some stage during pregnancy. Good sources of dietary fibre include wholegrains (such as bread and cracker options) fresh fruit and veg (leaving the skin on where possible) and legumes suc...h as beans and lentils. How are you finding ways to include good fibre sources with your meals and snacks?" #hobartobgyn #emilieburgess #dietitian #fibreinyourdiet #healthyeating #hobartobgynobstetricians #hobartobgyngynaecologists #hobartobgynmidwives #hobartobgynbabies #thejanebarkerpelvicfloorclinic #drphilippacannan #perinatalpsychology See more

18.01.2022 Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions coming into and out of Tasmania, we acknowledge that some families in our community may be experiencing less support, as their family members may not be in Tasmania for the birth of their baby and during the postnatal period. We wish to offer our overseas patients the option of connecting with other pregnant women within the community. If you would like to email the midwives at Hobart OBGYN and provide your details,... along with your permission to share your personal details, we can put you in touch with other families in a similar situation. This may enable you to share hints, tips and for managing in hospital and at home as well as a sense of community. 07.01.2022 So excited to finally launch our Birth in the Time of COVID-19 survey. Please share widely. We have a QR code that will take you straight into the survey or use... the link below. I am working with an amazing national and international team on this including the amazing Professors Sue Kildea and Suzanne King who led the Queensland Flood study. This survey is in a league of its own and we hope many women answer it across Australia and will do the follow on surveys too. Are you pregnant OR have given birth since March 2020 (during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia) AND are you willing to share your experience by completing this survey: https://surveyswesternsydney.au1.qualtrics.com//SV_8A1eQ6p Hannah Dahlen and her research team are conducting a research project (through Western Sydney University) into women’s experiences of being pregnant, giving birth and parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia. We have already conducted in-depth interviews and we are keen to learn more by releasing this survey. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Follow the link and add your voice to this study OR pass this on through your Facebook networks. All completed surveys where an email address has been provided will be entered into a raffle where 100 women will receive a $30 voucher
