24.01.2022 I did a session last week for a friend who was experiencing mild lower and mid back pain, as well as deep groin pain and deep thigh pain. Her job keeps her busy and on her feet all day, contributing to her discomfort. We were able to use Emmett technique to gently unravel the layers of tension, before releasing the deeper muscles. ... A light touch, a short hold, a brief switch.... I was introduced to the Emmett Technique in 2017. After my first class, my chronic back pain disappeared completely. More than that my entire body felt light, it moved with an ease I hadnt felt since before I had children. Needless to say I was blown away the moves were so simple, the effect so immediate and complete. I have now learnt most of the Emmett Technique, and it continues to amaze me when I see phenomenal results with clients using these simple moves. 22.01.2022 I had a beautiful 36 week pregnant mumma come in over the weekend. She had some tightness through her neck, with referred pain running down her arm into her hand while trying to sleep. As we followed her areas of tension, we found much of the tightness was coming from the core of the body, as it adapted to carry this growing baby. ... We were also able to release that feeling of tightness and tension around the lower belly. By the end of the session she was feeling so much lighter and freer within her body. Emmett can be brilliant during this incredible stage of life which asks so much of our body. For tightness and discomfort in late pregnancy, for low back or pelvic pain in new mummas, even for the only feeds on one side newborns. Emmett is simple, gentle and effective.

21.01.2022 Ask any new mum how their emotional, mental and physical health has been impacted after a few days, weeks and months without enough sleep. Imagine how much easier those first years would be on everyone if we never missed a full night. Sleep has a powerful impact on our health, essential for our physical and emotional wellbeing... While we sleep, our body can re-balance and heal. Without sufficient sleep we notice a decrease in focus, memory, concentration, energy. Then an increase in anxiety, depression, unstable mood and emotions. It can also impact our immune system, weakening our defences against cold and flu. It is easy for us to lose our natural sleep rhythm when our daily rhythm has been disrupted. Now is the time to look how you are feeling, look at how much sleep youre getting (ideally 7-9hours) and see whether its time to start getting to bed a little earlier. Some simple tips for good sleep; - Try and maintain a rhythm to your day, going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day - Avoid snacking after dinner, or eating after 7pm. - Avoid late afternoon / evening sugar, stimulants and alcohol - Stay off screens after 9:30pm, and keep the lighting in the house at a minimum in the evenings - Keep bedroom cool at night for sleeping. If you can, keep a window open to allow fresh air all night. - Turn off any wireless devices, and the modem, at night time. - Try meditation or slow yoga before bed. - Try calcium and magnesium before bed; these minerals can help you to fall asleep and to stay asleep. 20.01.2022 Stress is a tricky one. It can be perfectly healthy in moderate doses, it can charge us up and get us moving, leaving us feeling focused and full of energy. Were well designed and adapted to these short bursts of stress. However prolonged stress, the daily stress that doesnt subside, the constant mental load, the stress we create by the stories we tell ourselves about the past, present and future - this chronic form of stress is problematic. Were currently in a global situ...ation which will, for many of us, cause us to be in a state of prolonged chronic stress. There are simple ways we can help to reduce the stress. Some daily habits to keep the nervous system calm. Some Ive already mentioned; sleep, exercise. Some Ill talk more about later - meditation, connection, purpose. In this post Id like to look towards the very simplest process of life, the very first and last thing we will do during this life. Breath. We breathe in order to bring fresh oxygen to the cells and to eliminate excess carbon dioxide. Its a simple fundamental process; forget to do this for a less than a minute and youll be reminded how integral it is. Yet theres a big difference between breathing just enough and breathing really well. Deep breathing has a profound positive effect on our immune system, our nervous system, giving us more energy and focus while decreasing stress, anxiety, depression and fatigue. There are numerous breathing techniques (pranayama) which can be explored. Currently I use the increasingly popular Wim Hof Technique every morning; it helps me feel awake, alive, with increased positivity and energy for the day. 19.01.2022 Ive had a client who has been coming for sessions over several months. Due to the nature of past injuries, managing the discomfort is an ongoing process. Weve been able to help reduce the pain that she experiences, particularly through the back, shoulders, and foot. She wrote some feedback for me to share; ... 19.01.2022 Sunshine...good for the soul, amazing for the immune system. Vitamin D forms naturally when we expose our skin to sunshine. As easy as going for a walk, spending some time at the beach. One of the major reasons we catch a cold or the flu more easily during the winter months is because our Vitamin D levels become depleted. Sufficient levels of Vitamin D enhances our incredible innate ability to combat respiratory infection.... Vitamin D increases the production of natural antibodies, inducing monocyte differentiation. It enhances the phagocytic activity of macrophages, which is the first level of response in our immune system. Its a simple vitamin to obtain. Yet most of us are low in Vitamin D. Because we are inside much of the day, we keep covered or sun screened when we do go out, or perhaps because of underlying issues such as poor fat absorption or leaky gut. When the sun is low in the sky, during winter months particularly in areas further north or south, you are unable to form sufficient Vitamin D. So for all of us right now - spending more time at home, either moving into winter or just coming out of winter - now is a good time to get out in the sunshine when we can. 19.01.2022 Im getting ready to open up the clinic officially this week! Please contact me for a session. I did a session for a friend recently, with chronic knee pain. Even before he stepped off the table he could feel the chronic ache and tension through his knees reducing. Knee pain can often be helped with Emmett, and in many cases the feeling of relief and ease of pain is immediate.... I do these moves for myself when I go dancing. As soon as I feel a niggle through my knees I sit down for 5 minutes, release the muscles from my hips down to my toes, and Im ready to go again, pain free.

18.01.2022 Ive been working with a client who has experienced a loss of stability through her feet and ankles, due to injury, which tends to make her more prone to falls. She also experiences tightness through her toes, which can become painful. After our Emmett sessions she feels a greater sense of ease, strength and stability through her feet and ankles. Emmett technique is very effective at increasing stability though the body. Stability comes from our deep core muscles, and throug...h muscles of the legs and feet. When these muscles become tight and restricted, or are not engaging, the body feels less grounded and stable. 15.01.2022 Another quick Emmett session at home for a housemate, during dinner. Possibly as a result of sleeping in an awkward position, my housemate was experiencing neck and shoulder discomfort, which would become more painful at times throughout the day. We did a series of Emmett technique releases through the upper back, shoulder and neck, gradually releasing the layers of tension associated with the pain.... 15.01.2022 Our immune systems are incredible, finely tuned over thousands upon thousands of years to constantly adapt to the changing bacterial and viral world we are living in. Our immune system can adapt and overcome this virus, like it has countless others. What our immune systems need are the right ingredients, deep nourishment, enough rest, and to avoid being bombarded with substances which inhibit its ability to function properly.... Theres endless depth one could go into, the depth of the imbalance of our modern lives, undermining our bodys constant efforts to thrive. We can start by bringing some nourishment into our body, bringing some key nutrients in which will support us in the area we need right now. Here are some key players in immune health to reduce risk of viral infection; 1. Vitamin A. Important for creating a protective layer around the cells, helping to prevent viral attachment. Liver, cod liver oil, supplementation. 2. Vitamin D. This vitamin modulates our immune system, increases the production of antibodies, enhances macrophages, the first level of response in our immune system. 12.01.2022 I had an 80 year old lady come in with arthritis, causing her constant pain in her left knee. The pain was waking her at night. I received a card from her a couple of days later to thank me for her session. She writes;... "Many thanks for your time and your treatment. There is no doubt that the knee pain is lessened, and I didnt wake in pain last night. Not even once! Wow." She also had a history of shoulder injury, causing an ongoing experience of tightness and restriction through both shoulders. 08.01.2022 *Please add your own suggestions for strong immunity* Before I studied bodywork, I completed my Naturopathy, Nutrition and Herbal Medicine studies in New Zealand. Im forever grateful for the deeper understanding of holistic health and wellbeing this area of study has given me.... Our immune system is incredible, and given the resources it can function fabulously on our behalf. However with our modern tendencies towards fast food and fast living, our immune systems arent necessarily as powerful as they could be. None of these suggestions should replace a doctor visit if needed. Here are a few simple suggestions to help your immune system do what it does best. - Avoid processed sugar and alcohol - sugar can lower your immune system significantly for up to 6 hours. - Eat the good stuff. Vegetables, fruit, good protein. Make some big stews and soups now, in case you get sick later. - Eat less! Especially if youre sick. - Decrease stress - keep in touch with friends, even if youre currently isolated from them. Do things you enjoy, meditate, un-screen. If you find your anxious mind cant calm - contact me for a phone peiec session. - Exercise, moderately. This alone can decrease your risk of respiratory infection significantly. - Populate your gut - Probiotics, Fermented foods. - Feed the good bugs in your gut. Fibre - psyllium husk, chia seeds, flaxseeds, slippery elm, marshmallow root, licorice root. - Sleep! - try magnesium and calcium before bed if you have a hard time falling asleep and/or staying asleep. - Gargle / nasal rinse salt water. Several times per day if you feel an infection starting. - Garlic - 2 crushed cloves per day as general prevention. More if you feel something coming on. - Get some sunshine! 06.01.2022 Vitamin C has always been a brilliant support with colds and the flu. Deservedly so; it enhances the differentiation and proliferation of immune cells, modulates cytokine production and enhances antibody levels, amongst many other actions. Its worth a closer look at this simple superhero right now. Vitamin C was used intravenously in 50 case studies in China who were hospitalised with COVID, both moderate and severe cases. Vitamin C was used alongside medical treatment.... These cases showed a decrease in severity and duration of symptoms, compared to those who did not receive Vitamin C. All of the patients in these case studies recovered from COVID - 19. Case studies were done with intravenous Vitamin C, up to 10g per day, divided doses. 02.01.2022 This was a really interesting case for me, as Id never treated a client for these symptoms before using Emmett Technique. My housemate, who has coeliac disease, had some accidental gluten on the weekend. By the next morning she was feeling increasingly bloated, mentally foggy, very emotional, and was seeing things in a negative light. We did an Emmett session, focusing on the lymphatic and nervous system, expediating the excretion of toxicity in her body while calming her e...motional state. I also gave her a couple of herbs for her gut, slippery elm and marshmallow root powder, which are both healing demulcent herbs. (My background is in Naturopathy) After the session she felt a little better, and by the next day her physical and emotional symptoms were improving significantly, halving her usual recovery time after having gluten.
