23.01.2022 The secret in riding is to do a few things correctly. The more a rider does in the saddle, the less one succeeds. The less one does, the more one succeeds. Every action of the rein must be proceeded by the action of the torso. In failing to do so the rider only addresses the horses head.
23.01.2022 To all our friends everywhere, a Happy and safe new year. Jane and Naiomi.

15.01.2022 Horse training is a combination of common sense, and a "feel" for the procedure. Some people are born with the "feel" others can acquire it to a large degree from lessons and experience. Most importantly, the whole procedure should be fun and enjoyable for horse and owner. Quite often it is not. Things happen, and the whole thing turns into a bun fight. Extraordinary and unreasonable demands are made without proper preparation. Setting intermediate goals for ones self, taking things step by step, knowing what it is you want to achieve, and understanding the capabilities of your horse/pony are of the utmost importance, A recipe for success.
14.01.2022 Jacqui and Sebastian enjoying themselves during a schooling session. Thanks for the photo Jacqui.
12.01.2022 Thoughts................................Riders may experience at some point, that their horse presents them with apparently insurmountable difficulties when as...ked to learn/perform this or that movement or exercise; and no matter what approach they use, and even with all the patience in the world, the horse seems unable to learn or make progress, or actively resists the whole idea. Having a knowledge of the effective employment of riding in lightness will often and speedily allow resistance to dissolve into nothing..........
12.01.2022 Thoughts.........recipe to preserve your horse, (and yourself) All simultaneously or various combinations,.............. No joints fixed open. No joints jamme...d shut. You must sense with your legs. Feel with your buttocks. Act with your lumbar. Vanquish with your hand. Allow with your fingers. Reduce with your shoulders. And over all, like a blessing, ride with your thoughts. Non of the above is possible if rider relies on gripping legs and rein support to stay in the saddle. The rider has to learn to LET GO. All of the above are BASIC THINGS. If you are training your horse and prefer the Non destructive approach,,, We are here to help you, whatever your level of experience.............. just give us a call.

05.01.2022 The Circle, The Circle, The Circle, Directives............. When you can ride a perfect circle you are ready to begin training your horse. Stay on, or ...return to the circle if the horse plays or rushes. There are no straight lines in a circle. A circle starts and finishes in the same place. Adjust the shoulders of the horse to the line of the circle. To make the circle, advance a little the outside shoulder, join the hands a little to inside...... Outside rein controls size of circle, inside rein gives position,,,Place the horse and then relax inside rein. Relaxing inside rein see if horse makes circle by outside rein and inside leg,,,do not press the leg touch delicately, by the girth. The circle is by the outside rein and the inside leg. Allow the inside rein to dance. On circle look at power, position and rhythm,,,,power is not speed..... be moderate with the time spent on circles, the circle is to relax and decontract the horse. These notes are taken from my lessons with Master Nuno Oliveira.....There is only Good Riding or Bad Riding. Happy practice,,, I will add some more about the circle in a few days time. Jane.
03.01.2022 Agistment available.
03.01.2022 More On The Circle................................... On the circle look at the shoulders, (focus). Look to see that horse has same weight in left shoul...der as right shoulder. Correct the shoulders. Dont allow horse to put head to outside of circle. Be moderate with strong and determined resistance to the line of the curve, especially if rider cannot yet put a horse on a concentric circle. ---Good Riding decontracts the horse. The horse will mirror the rider. At the moment of placing, you also give. Not by force. Force is an aid which operates for longer than a moment. These are things which my beautiful horses have taught me on the Road Of Good Riding. Jane.
02.01.2022 Hello-world.---I-have-arrived.--My-name-is-Coo-ee.
01.01.2022 Notes on feeding. Hay. rule of thumb. One kilo of hay to every 100kg of body weight. per day, and adjust up or down to keep correct weight of horse. If you are not sure of your horse's weight, visit your tack shop and buy a 'weight tape'. These tapes are calibrated to give you a reasonable indication of your horse's weight when used according to instructions. Some horses need the above ration twice in 24 hours, if they are not receiving any other grass or hard feed. T...here is an old saying, "The eye of the master makes the horses fat." Horses have a small stomach, and are naturally constant grazers. It is not kind to deprive the horse of his natural desire to always be eating.. So we need to feed sufficient hay/grass to keep the horse content, but not over weight. Crib biting and other nervous habits can develop, because the horse has been neglected regarding the question, "How much hay should I feed my horse/pony?" See more
01.01.2022 Know your Horse/Pony. Name 10 things that you know your equine enjoys. Then explain, for each reason, how he expresses his enjoyment. Avoid Anthropomorphic type answers.
