17.01.2022 Many of us saw stage 4 restrictions as inevitable, following a week of record case numbers across Victoria. And now many business anxiously await further instruction tomorrow, wondering how things might look for the next six weeks. When working from home, we lose many of our usual incidental bouts of exercise, from walking to a meeting room, to wandering over to chat with a colleague. Now all is done at the touch of a button, and with it we see a further rise in sedentary beh...aviour. While it is difficult to suggest that there is "no time to exercise", given that our social calendars have officially been erased for the foreseeable future, sometimes a big chunk of exercise proves too daunting, and particularly during this difficult time, motivation is lacking. For those looking for a quicker alternative, there was a fantastic article in the Sydney Morning Herald last week, with a short 3-minute exercise program designed to be performed each hour to avoid sitting all day while at home. This should not be seen as all of the exercise you need during the day, however is a great place to start, and will also improve productivity by breaking up the work day. If you are interested in improving your physical activity during this time, Home Active Physiotherapy is still offering FREE EXERCISE DISCUSSIONS via telehealth, to explore some strategies for kickstarting your exercise routine. We are also offering personalised exercise programs, which are taught over a 60-minute telehealth consultation, and eligible for private health rebates. 11.01.2022 This past fortnight has been an especially challenging one as Melbourne moved back into Stage 3 Restrictions. In many ways we are experiencing this pandemic through the five stages of grief, and in particular this backwards step has left many of us with an empty feeling. Exercise has many benefits, and not just physical, with strong evidence that it can improve mood and mental health. Given the trying times we find ourselves in, Home Active Physiotherapy is now offering FREE ...EXERCISE DISCUSSIONS via telehealth, in order to promote physical and mental wellbeing during the next six weeks and beyond. 09.01.2022 Is your body ready to return to the gym? Excitingly for many, gyms are preparing to reopen their doors on Monday. However physiotherapists have predicted increased injuries as people return too abruptly to an activity they have been away from for the past three months. The Australian Physiotherapy Association has recommended reducing weights by around 30% to focus on technique and reduce injury risk when you first start back.... Check out the article below for more details. Be smart, and ensure you have the best possible return to the gym! https://homeactivephysio.com.au/is-your-body-ready-to-retu/

04.01.2022 A great article by the Australian Physiotherapy Association about the impacts of COVID-19 on falls in older Australians. While the statistics are pertaining to residential aged care, they are very much applicable to those still living at home who have not been as active in the community during the pandemic. https://australian.physio//older-australians-risk-life-thr If you, your parents or grandparents have struggled to stay active over the past few months, and are worried about your physical function, please contact Home Active Physiotherapy on 0434 786 046 or head to our website to book an appointment today.
