25.01.2022 Cold Showers Have you heard about having cold showers? Some of my friends do it and my Osteo suggested it to me some time ago. Here are the benefits of cold showers with controlled breathing: Reduced stress levels Higher level of alertness.... More robust immune response. Increased willpower. Weight loss Help with recovery It is beneficial for both your mind and your body. If you have never done it though, I advise to gradually build up the duration and intensity. My osteo said to start by having your normal shower, then gradually at the end turn it colder and colder. The one downfall is I find you do need warm water to rinse your hair when you wash it, washing in cold doesn’t work so well for my hair when rinsing the shampoo out .

23.01.2022 Having too many grains? When my daughter and I have too many grains (gluten free grains for us) we feel the effects in our gut. So I made a big batch of Paleo seed bread on the weekend so we can be organised if we need a quick breakfast or lunch, or rolls to go with a yummy soup . Here is the recipe https://www.honestlynatural.com.au//grain-free-paleo-brea/

23.01.2022 Living healthy tip Using cookware with non stick surfaces may increase your exposure to perfluorinated compounds. These are also usually made using Aluminium which also poses a risk. Studies have shown that high temperatures can transform PTFE into toxic Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which can be harmful if ingested. There are many budget cookware products like pots, pans, rice cookers etc which use non stick surfaces. ... But the good news is if you are aware you can easily swap it for something less toxic. The biggest issue we have is that the health effects of PFOA’s are unknown according to the CDC, although you may have heard of DuPont? An entire town was involved in a lawsuit because the chemical was present in the local water supply and being emitted in dust from the factory chimney from making this non stick coating. Many people suffered tragic health effects, DuPont settled over 3,550 PFOA lawsuits for $671 million but denied any wrongdoing I often see the question about whether there is an option for a rice cooker that is free of non stick coatings. Here is an idea I have been using. My brother gave me a billy boil for Christmas a couple of years ago and its awesome. Stainless steel but it also works without electricity once you have done the initial boil. NB- I have NO affiliates to this. I just think it’s a rad idea and does more than just rice, its also a slow cooker without power! Check it out here Aussie company too http://www.billyboil.com.au/rice-recipe/

20.01.2022 Cradle cap is such a normal thing for babies, it doesn't bother them at all. It probably bothers us parents more . If your little one or even older child has some cradle cap here are 3 natural ways you can try to get rid of it quickly, easily and naturally 1. Olive oil or liquid coconut oil. Stick this on the head overnight to let it soften the cradle cap, then brush away with a gentle baby brush or use your nails VERY gently, if it doesn't come away straight away leave ...it and repeat the next day. 2. Apple Cider Vinegar. You all prpbably know how much I love ACV, it can be used for everything in our lives Just add 2TBS of raw apple cider vinegar mixed with 1/4cup of warm water, using a cotton ball dab the area making sure no drips go into the eyes. Leave the liquid on bubs head for about 15- 10min then rinse of with water. Repeat this a couple of times a week. 3. Four Cow Farm Tea Tree Balm. When Ellie had it as a bub I used Four Cow Farm Tea tree remedy as tea tree is anti-fungal, I put it on just before she would go to bed for the night then the next morning I was able to brush it all away or use your nail very gently to get it off. Seriously worked overnight! https://www.honestlynatural.com.au//four-cow-farm-tea-tre/

19.01.2022 Cleaning houses naturally doesn't need to cost you a fortune. This recipe is what I use for my own home and also for my eco cleaning business. We have three different sprays for cleaning houses, this recipe is for the ALL PURPOSE spray suitable for the entire house including stone benchtops as it doesn't contain any bicarb or vinegar. Ingredients: 5 drops Tea Tree oil 10 Drops Eucalyptus ... 1tbs Soap flakes 500ml Water Method: Into a saucepan heat your water and soap flakes until dissolved. Let cool Once cooled add in the oils Pour into a spray bottle and start cleaning your house so it sparkles! SO EASY I have tried using liquid castile soaps for spray recipes and honestly, heating up the flakes works the best in my opinion. I also use these flakes in the dishwasher, for soaking clothes, laundry washing and to make slime for my daughter... Check out the soap flakes here https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/shop/ansc-laundry-powder/

19.01.2022 I just found the best hack for when you use a DIY wax! Do you ever have those days the wax just isn't working, its just not pulling all the hairs out?? WELL....put some tapioca flour on your skin to dry it out, wipe it and then apply the wax and it works properly again! DIY waxes don't work if you are the least bit sweaty, I actually sprinkled some of my DIY dry shampoo under my arms lol as its just tapioca and cacao and it only took one go with the wax. Rub some four c...ow baby oil on your skin after waxing and its perfect and smooth! https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/diy-sugar-wax-2/

18.01.2022 Is there a difference in castile soaps? Not all castile soaps are created equal for sure! A lot of it has to do with. 1) The type of oil that's used. Coconut oil is often used in soap-making because it's very effective in making a strong soap - lots of foam and very effective at stripping oil from the skin (that's why it's used to make lots of detergent ingredients too - sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium coco sulphate, cocamidopropyl betaine, lauryl glucoside etc). When you ma...ke a soap with coconut oil, this also means that you can use less of it which is why coconut oil-based liquid castile washes (like Dr Bronner's) are generally very watery. 2) Another thing to note is how much oil is used in the soap. Four Cow farm super-fat their soap - which means they add in more olive oil than is required to make it a soap (cheaper castiles don't do this), which makes it extra rich and luxurious and very gentle on the skin. Since they don't use fillers or thickeners/bulking agents (there are only four ingredients in these washes!), you can tell immediately by the feel of their richer consistency and texture. 3) How the soap is made makes a big difference too. In the production process, sometimes not enough time is given for the soap to 'cure' and when the soap is made quickly, it doesn't have time to 'soften' and become gentler. It's usually because manufacturers would like to have the product made quickly and out the door. Four cow farm is a small family run biz, they take such pride in their soaps, their soap cures for weeks, to ensure that it's reached just the right consistency and softness to be ready for sensitive skins. Love is put into four cow farm. This is in no way dissing DR Bronners, it is a great castile for DIY recipies, hand soap for kitchens and other things. It is cost effective but also made in high volumes with cheaper ingredients. Four cow is a luxurious product great for the skin and won't dry it out like Dr B might. Dr bronners just needs diluting . You can read more about our Four Cow Farm castile here xx https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/shop/?s=cow+castile

17.01.2022 Woah.. I used to love burning these in my bedroom when I was a rebellious, hippy, witchy, gothy kind of teenager LOL (what a mix) , but looking back that was NOT the best idea (the incense not the clothing choices). Incense has been used for centuries for various different reasons but since the revolution of chemicals, incense has changed and synthetic petrochemicals are more than likely added. Traditional incense sticks are made from Woods, Resins, aromatic Herbs and Spic...es. Cheap incense however, since demand is high and companies want to keep costs down, synthetic fragrances are added and nasty glues to stick it all together (even incenses made in their traditional countries). So be careful in your search. PLEASE NOTE be very cautious of even natural ones where you burn them, even smoke from a fireplace is detrimental to our heath (that is why we have flues). When lit particulate matter, noxious gases and VOCs are emitted so you need a well ventilated room, or do it outside when enjoying the outdoors. If you want to avoid incense all together - Here are some cleaner choices for a nice smelling house Pure essential oils in a diffuser Fresh flowers and herbs in a vase OR BEST YET A healthy home smells like fresh air (this is honestly my fav smell, love opening up the house so it smells like spring at the moment)

17.01.2022 ALERT - Ingredient change I have some terrible news. Remember when I said Biologika bubble bath was discontinued since it was bought out by Martin & Pleasance? It wasn't just Biologika which was bought out, it was the whole Organics formulations range and without my knowledge has had huge ingredients changes. Our loved dish liquid is now 100% NOT compliant with our policies! It contains 3 ingredients which we ALLWAYS say no to, these three ingredients are known ski...n irritants. I will be taking these straight off the shelf . We can't always catch changes of formulations straight away unfortunately, companies hardly ever notify us either which is an absolute pain. As soon as I notice a change that isn't compliant with our policies it will be scrapped straight away. Or if you ever notice an odd ingredient on something please let us know asap! NOW to find a new dish liquid! I will now have to check the entire Organics Formulations brands, These include Biologika, Riddells Creek and Eco Logic

16.01.2022 I am loving the smell of the air lately, it really smells like Spring in rural VIC. That beautiful smell unfortunately can be unpleasant to some, itchy eyes, blocked nose.... So here are a few things you could try if you are a sufferer. Nettle tea and Licorice tea can help relieve inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and ease nasal congestion, sneezing and itching. It also has a soothing effect (FYI licorice is also brilliant for a cough) Ginger and garlic: Gi...nger is a natural anti-inflammatory, helpful for reducing hay fever symptoms. Garlic contains antibiotic properties and can help prevent sinus congestion. The use of warm, salty water to rinse the sinuses through nasal inhalation has been shown to effectively reduce hay fever symptoms. You can do this by using a neti pot (like a small teapot) to pour the warm saline solution into each nostril twice daily. (I can do a special order of a beautiful ceramic one if interested). (FYI this can also help with those who suffer from snoring, constant blocked noses and keep your immune system running well) What is a neti pot?? https://www.honestlynatural.com.au//helio-supply-co-neti-/ Vitamin C is an effective natural anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory, and it also supports healthy immune function and protects from secondary respiratory conditions. Try Kiwi Fruit, citrus fruits, strawberries, red capsicums, broccoli, papaya, guava and mango lastly Having an onion a day can help keep your hay fever at bay See more

09.01.2022 I have had some people ask me if I will be getting in any reusable masks. I have decided I won’t be adding these to the store. These won’t be an essential for ever (hopefully) and I don’t feel it is right to sell something like this just for profit. There are so many people making them from their homes who may have lost their jobs (especially those in Vic) or just love sewing, I have even seen kids making them to sell etc. I think if you want to wear a mask, purchase from your local buy swap and sell and support your community that way I would prefer you bought from your community than for me to profit from a mask.

09.01.2022 Did you know that Intestinal Worms are Most Active During a Full Moon? Just before a full moon it is a great idea to do your worming treatments for yourself, kids and even pets if you suspect worms/parasites. Even just as a precautionary measure. We have a full moon coming up! According to our consultant New Beginnings - Jo Spies, Pumkin seeds or paw paw seeds are both good to use. Ground up you need about a tablespoon a day for a full month. The Life cycle of most worms a...nd parasites is 18 -28 days. They also normally cycle with the full moon which is why it is most beneficial to do your treatments within the full moon. Parasites you can get from almost anywhere in your environment and its nothing to be ashamed about. It happens. If you have worms you will need to treat for the full month. If you just want to keep them at bay doing a few days of pumpkin seeds with the full moon could help keep them away (try 8 days, 4 before the moon, 4 after). For my dogs and cat I just sprinkle some in their food for the same cycle (8days), my homeopathic vet recommends this. If you have parasites and don’t think pumpkin or paw paw seeds will cut it and want something natural to use I have found Spectrum Herbal. This has all the ingredients needed to get rid of those buggers! https://www.honestlynatural.com.au//spectrum-herbal-wormi/ Or Jo also has a great remedy too!

06.01.2022 Pineapple contains high levels of vitamin C which is amazing for helping fight colds, sniffles and viruses. Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme with anti-inflammatory properties which is why it is so great for a cough as it helps to fight off disease and kill bacteria. Studies have found that raw extracts from pineapple could decrease mucus five times faster than over-the-counter cough syrups. It also tastes so YUMMY! ... 05.01.2022 I tried to turn this into an add on FB but it won't let me because it shows a close up of a body part Its an arm and leg FB! lol so I thought I'll post it again this week because these are such helpful things to have in your home Here is the original post This is my daughter (I swear I am a good mum ) Tonight we had to use two of our Weleda products on my daughter. When she got out of the bath she had this GIGANTIC mozzie bite seriously its huge. I'm still looking fo...r that mozzie in the house And the bruise was from the BMX track when (I was a bad mum) I didn’t catch her quick enough and she slid backwards on a hill and crashed She was sooo itchy in the bath, I applied the burns and bites gel and she happily went off to sleep with no fussing because it wasn't itchy anymore . The Arnica is to help that gigantic bruise go away! It helps reduce pain and inflammation and supports the healing process to be quicker. Definitely handy ones to keep in the cupboards or first aid kit! What sort of battle wounds do your kids get? Ellie has bruises and scrapes everyday from school You can have a look at the Arnica and Burns and Bites gel here https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/shop/

04.01.2022 I found a new way to clean ovens today! I was spring cleaning a home today and decided I'd try a new way to clean their oven. STEAM! It worked really really well! (BTW that's not me in the pic, I won't wear nail polish ) All I did was use the hard scrubby end on the steamer and used it to scrub the oven then wiped it with a cloth...came up well and was quicker and less messy than my other methods. I also steamed all over the racks to loosen the grime, then using steel wool t...hey scrubbed up well too! Ovens are such a hard thing to clean chemical free. I will keep experimenting with how to use steam and I'll add it onto our Cleaning ovens naturally blog https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/diy-natural-oven-cleaner/ Have you ever used steam or have any other tricks for ovens?

03.01.2022 Plants are the lungs and kidneys of our home. In a 15sq home, it is recommended that you have minimum 15plants to help clean your air. Here is why plants are sooooo amazing: They absorb common indoor air contaminants and consequently purify the air.... They can help balance humidity levels. Reduce chemical emissions (top three for this are Peace lily, Kentia palm and Janet Craig). Reduce airborne moulds and bacteria. Absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen (plants in bedrooms however should be avoided, most plants respire at night and produce carbon dioxide). Physiological benefits. LOOK AMAZING. Hands up if you LOVE plants in your home?

03.01.2022 I learnt this one very quickly when I worked in childcare. BUT THEN some days the child who liked squares does a flip on me and wants triangles! WTH

02.01.2022 I have been asked by many of you to review nappies and find out what is best. I am currently still working on it but in my investigation I did a lot of research regarding SAP, as parents voiced their concerns about this element in them Sap is that is the stuff which absorbs the wees and makes the nappy feel like jelly where the wee has been absorbedwithout it your nappy won’t work very well as a disposable. Now a disposable nappy is NEVER going to be the very cleanest cho...ice of nappy..period.. but sometimes cloth just isn’t doable for some so understandably you want the most natural disposable on the market Which I am still researching. But back to the SAP- my understanding is that the nappy industry generally all use the same SAP regardless if it is Huggies or a natural choice like Joonya. However from my research I found that there are two kinds of SAPs, one of which is a starch based bio-superabsorbent which is 100% biodegradable. The second is a the standard SAP made from polyacrylate, but the starch based isn’t good enough (YET) on its own so the other is still used in conjunction. So SAP is apparently not considered to be a risk to the baby. The baby is not ingesting SAP and the chemicals used are not considered toxic on the skin - the SAP polymer is called "sodium polyacrylate" and EWG give it a 1-2 rating. That is not to say I am 100% convinced but in a disposable there is just no other choice than to have one with SAP. Every single nappy I have looked at contains it. So now we know there is no way to avoid that element in a disposable nappy. I am now asking different brands for their test results (If they have them) to show levels of formaldehyde, phalates, metals etc. . I am also asking many questions to the companies such as do they use dyes, perfumes, bleach etc. If they can’t provide me with their test results then they can’t be accurately assessed for their natural properties. Hopefully many of the brands you ask about can give me those results and we can find you the safest choices possible. So for now that’s some info on SAP, hopefully that clears up any concerns or questions you had. I am hoping over the Vic school holidays I will have a blog written up about nappies and see which pass our Honestly Tests. I have reviewed wipes though , if you haven't read the blog on choosing the safest wipes you can find it here https://www.honestlynatural.com.au/guide-to-choosing-natur/

02.01.2022 INGREDIENT OF THE WEEK IN THE SPOTLIGHT Benzalkonium chloride. I have seen this in some of the ‘natural’ hand sanitisers which are ALCOHOL FREE. If you are after the very cleanest hand sanitiser you may want to continue looking. This is what the Environmental Working group says about Benzalkonium Chloride:... Biocide, preservative and surfactant associated with severe skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and allergies, benzalkonium chloride is a sensitizer especially dangerous for people with asthma or skin conditions such as eczema. Benzalkonium chloride is found in many household disinfectants and cleaning supplies. Regular use of products containing antimicrobials such as benzalkonium chloride could lead to the development of resistant bacteria in homes and food processing facilities. So if you're Looking for one suitable for the entire family including children without the above ingredient.. Saba organics is a nice choice and are perfect for littlies. I have spoken with our in house aromatherapist who has given the green light for the oils being suitable for littlies too https://www.honestlynatural.com.au//saba-organics-hand-sa/

01.01.2022 You may have noticed I am a little quiet the last few months so I wanted to explain why. I will be back up and posting natural living tips, reviews of products doing the sneaky on us and all the content you love shortly but life is a bit of a juggle at the moment and some things have to go on hold . I do post when I get a chance though. It kills me not to be able to give you informative content each day but I need to look after my family at the moment and work work work work... my but off with jobs which pay the bills. You might not know but I am a one woman business running it out of my home, also working as a kindergarten teacher and also own an eco cleaning business so I clean houses on the side too and manage other mums needing work who clean for me (in all my spare time hahah). I have to do what I can to put food on the table for my little family, while trying to build my dream (to be able to work on Honestly Natural full time). My daughter is learning a valuable lesson, that you do have to work hard for the things you need/want. My dream is to be as big as these other online natural stores (you know who I am talking about I am sure) but the difference is I will always keep our policies stricter to find you the very cleanest products. Not just natural, CLEAN (based on their ingredients) which is what makes Honestly Natural different. I found a hole in the natural industry and wanted to fill it by finding the very safest products possible for people who don’t have the time to research. I am passionate about truly natural products and get very frustrated with all these ‘natural’ products still containing skin irritants etc in health shops and on those other sites. That is why I started this business, to make it easier for you, having somewhere you know everything we stock IS clean and natural Thank you for all the support so far and continuing to follow me and make purchases even though I am a little quiet. I have 6 weeks left of a hard slog, then hopefully I’ll be back having a day to provide you amazing content, find you new products and give you a laugh with our Meme Monday
