17.01.2022 HWUDS performer Beccy Cole supports Cure Brain Cancer Well-known Australian bush poet Dave ‘Prousty’ Proust has entertained audiences all over Australia and overseas. His poem The Auction about losing the family property to... overseas investors has had over 1.3 million views online. A highlight of his career was entertaining Australian troops in the Solomon Islands in 2007. He and his wife Therese have 6 children and 10 grandchildren. Beccy Cole met Prousty in 2004 and they have worked together at festivals and fundraising events he has even starred in two of her music videos. Prousty was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Tumor in 2018. After a major operation, radiation and chemotherapy, he is trying to live life to the fullest and tick off his bucket list. Prousty and his wife Therese are passionate advocates for The Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. For them research is so very important, there is no cure for Brain Cancer, it is a terminal illness. The Proust family was the face of this year’s tax appeal and raised over $150,000 towards research. This is amazing but not enough. Donations can be made at https://curebraincancer.org.au

16.01.2022 SURVEY FOR FUTURE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES Many families have been affected by COVID-19, the bushfires, loss of jobs, loss of loved ones, and loss of health. It has been a difficult time for all of us. As the world continues to adjust to our new reality, we are taking this time to find new ways of engaging our community. Following a number of suggestions from Honouring Women and Families United by Defence Service Dinners participants, we are seeking to find the level of interest... from the Defence and veteran family community in future events and activities. One such event suggested would be a Pilot Seminar designed in collaboration with the US Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), the Australian War Widows NSW and several other ESOs. The Seminar would provide immediate, practical support for Defence and veterans families. The Seminar would be held over three days and include mothers, fathers, widows, partners, adult children, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends of Defence and veterans who have died OR have been wounded, injured or ill. The seminar would not be for clinicians, researchers, or practitioners, rather it would bring loved ones together in a healing environment through facilitated activities focused on coping strategies and peer connections. Panels, speakers, workshops and sharing groups would be held throughout the weekend for all participants. Art therapy, counsellors, yoga and other activities may also be available for those who wish to engage in those activities. In order to help us better understand the needs and interest of our community, please help us by completing our online survey - simply visit the below link and answer our short questions: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QD258QS
