25.01.2022 This beautiful painting called "The Wait and The Reward" speaks volumes. What do you think? (Artist: Anna Rose Bain).
23.01.2022 DOES 5 WEEKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?? You may not look pregnant at this point but your baby's tiny heart has already begun to beat and pump blood. The heart is dividing into chambers and will find a more regular rhythm soon. Your baby is about half a centimetre long and looks more like a tadpole than a human. He'll undergo a growth spurt this week. He's busily growing his major organs, including the kidneys and liver. His neural tube, which connects the brain and spinal cord, wil...l close this week. His upper and lower limb buds begin to sprout -- these will form his arms and legs. The intestines are developing and the appendix is in place. Below the opening that will later form your baby's mouth, small folds exist where the neck and the lower jaw eventually develop. As early as this week, his facial features are already forming. His nostrils are becoming distinct and the earliest version of his eyes' retinas are forming. See more

16.01.2022 The number of births to teenage mothers in Australia has jumped after decades of steady decline, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) recording a 10% increase nationally between 2007 and 2008. New South Wales recorded the most significant increase at 15%. While some health professionals are concerned, others say the increase is in line with the country's overall baby boom. Fertility rates for all age groups of mother increased between 2007 and 2008, except for women... aged 4549 years, for whom the fertility rate remained the same. Dr Patricia Weerakoon, co-ordinator of the University of Sydney's graduate program in sexual health, said teenagers were becoming sexually active earlier, putting themselves at risk of sexually transmissible illnesses and unplanned pregnancies. ‘Kids are having more sex and they are having risky sex,’ she said. Despite the increase, Australia's teenage fertility rate of 17 per 1,000 teens is still much lower than the US at 51 per 1,000; Britain, 27 per 1,000; and New Zealand, 26 per 1,000. But it is higher than many European countries including Germany, 10 per 1,000; France, eight per 1,000; and the Netherlands, four per 1,000. Professor Anthony Smith from the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University, said supporting teenage mothers was critical, particularly when it came to helping them complete their education. But most women under 20 who had babies were in their late teens and the pregnancies might be planned as part of a committed relationship, he said. ‘Most of the teen pregnancies do, in fact, occur in the 18, 19-year age bracket’, he said. The ABS data, 3301.0 Births, Australia, 2008, is available at the ABS website: www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/mf/3301.0 (Source: Sydney Morning Herald, 29 August 2010.)
