02.01.2022 Today, in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, I am here at this vigil in Hyde Park to commemorate the women whos...e lives have been taken by domestic violence and abuse in the past year. And the statistics are nothing short of horrifying. Around one woman a week is murdered by a current or former partner in Australia right now it's nothing short of unacceptable. So i'm here today, alongside Delia Donovan, the CEO of DVNSW, frontline workers, activists and other leading organisations to pay tribute to those whose lives we have lost, to honour them, and to recommit ourselves to doing all that is necessary to ensure we live in a world where women are free from violence and can live their lives as they see fit.

01.01.2022 Destroyers, "Every Australian’s life has been improved by her leadership on gender equality." Susan Ryan is dead and Australia has lost a pioneering feminist. F...ormer Prime Minister Julia Gillard paid tribute to Ms Ryan's leadership. Ms Ryan was the architect of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, which outlawed discrimination on the basis of sex, marital status, and pregnancy. She later reflected on it as "probably the most useful thing I've done in my life". "In 2017, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Australian National University for her contribution to the advancement of human rights, as the Me Too movement was taking off. "She told The Canberra TImes at the time she was deeply distressed at the "epidemic" of sexual harassment faced by working women today. https://www.canberratimes.com.au//a-womans-place-is-in-t/ "I feel more than disappointed, deeply distressed that women are still battling things that they shouldn't have to battle," she said. "Women need to act collectively and support each other on these big issues." Destroyers, let's pay tribute to Susan Ryan's legacy by remembering the ways in which we have acted to support each other, just as she would have wanted. If you have memories of her, please share them. https://www.smh.com.au//trailblazing-former-minister-susan
