25.01.2022 Our office is having a great debate and we invite you to join in! Malachi often is at the office, a recruit volunteer for his Mum (Nadine). He sports a pretty good mullet and people either love or hate it. He has offered to put his 'do' on the chopping block as a fundraiser for HFOC! If you buy a ticket to this online event or donate via paypal.me/HFOC then you can vote in our poll to decide if we shave or save the mullet! Please share, closes 26th Oct, 2020 at 11:30am

24.01.2022 Lilly (pictured middle) has a soft spot for giving and enjoys helping others. This year she decided to donate to our Backpack Appeal. She posted her efforts on Facebook and soon had more funds and donations coming in. The result - 17 backpacks stocked full and about $100 cash. She soon realised how quickly it all adds up (over $1000). Thank you Lilly and all your supporters! These are sure to be treasured.

14.01.2022 Secondary conditions are 2-4 times less likely to develop if FASD is diagnosed early and individualised professional support provided. Early intervention which includes supporting parents to understand their child’s behaviour as a symptom of brain damage can achieve improved outcomes. https://www.nofasd.org.au//uploads/2020/08/FASD-Facts-Broc

05.01.2022 Senior Sergeant Miles said a two-year-old victim was recovering in Cairns. That young child we know has been offended against and was subjected to being passed around as a result of exchanging of drugs and the child, she was recovered at an address in Cairns, he said. That is all the media story wrote about a 2 yr old child in Qld, now removed from her biological mother. In an article that was full of horrific adult choices, that was her little life summed up in full.... She can't vote, she can't advocate for her robbed childhood. Sexual abuse is horrific but more damaging is the emotional abuse and neglect that she would have experienced in her short life. This child is our child. Our responsibly. Who will advocate for her future? An unsupported carer? The job most of us are grateful we've not pursued. Qld's kids are our kids, it's not the Government who are letting them slip through the gaps, it's us as a people. If you want to read the whole horrific story, the links in the comments.
05.01.2022 As an organisation, we often hear the cry "I could never foster! I would get too attached!". Grief and vicarious trauma are real factors when living with children from hard places, but the child needs someone who gets too attached, as attachment is their heartbreak. For an adult we hurt from loving so hard vs leaving a child wounded from those meant to protect, what hurts is worse in outcomes? Our society and the next generation are the ones who hurt the most ....
05.01.2022 Thrilled to be partnering with such quality!
05.01.2022 A big thank you to Sharon the Chappy at Oakey, popped in and grabbed 8 bags for some of her students. If you are a Chaplain or work in a school and know of any at risk students transitioning homes that would benefit from a backpack, please contact us!
04.01.2022 Some truth for the day!
04.01.2022 Don't forget to vote if you purchase access to our hairdo fundraiser. Malachi is desperately hoping our community will vote to save that mullet
