25.01.2022 A recent project we've been doing involved implementing a performance review process using an interactive form and training managers and employees in both the process and the value. Specifically, we worked to ensure employees also understand their responsibilities & involvement in the process, and managers are provided with the knowledge, tools, techniques and skills to be enable them to have effective conversations with their team to improve their performance and satisfactio...n At Horizon we're firm believers the performance review process is not about the form it’s about the conversation and embedding the process in the business. Some of THE BEST performance reviews can be written on a table napkin or a post-it-note. So, while we work with organisations to implement perf. review processes and train managers in their use; we actually place the greatest emphasis on providing managers with the skills, knowledge and techniques to enable & empower them to have meaningful conversations with their team to improve their performance & satisfaction a basic element of operating a business successfully. Has your business been guilty of rolling out a new process without providing managers with the skills to be effective in using them? And we're not talking about skills to fill out a form!

23.01.2022 "and only two in 10 employees strongly agree that their performance is managed in a way that motivates them to do outstanding work." But just because they're done badly IS NOT an excuse to not do them at all. We believe it's a call to action to make sure you do them better.

18.01.2022 Here is article number 2 of our 3 part series on spotting and addressing stress in your team. This week we consider another 3 of Belbin’s 9 Team Roles, some clues to indicate stress and how to respond. Do you have a Shaper (SH) in your team; someone impatient with stagnation and always applying pressure to drive the team forward? Or a Coordinator (CO); like a SH they have a strong focus on goals and objectives but they are also skilled at getting things done through people? W...e’ll also look at the expert Specialists (SP) with particular technical skills who indicate stress quite differently again. Don’t know what your Belbin team roles are? Don’t worry: first, you will still get a sense of the roles in your team through this article; and secondly, we are offering a limited number of COMPLIMENTARY assessments and a debrief for a Manager in your organisation to provide some insight to how fascinating and useful this inventory can be. We love the Belbin Team Roles inventory because it’s quick, cost effective and easy to apply. For more information on other roles, watch out for our next post and you can also see Part 1 through link in comments. https://horizonmg.com.au//how-to-spot-signs-of-team-overwh

06.01.2022 ***Geniuses and Butterflies*** A beautiful article highlighting the need for balance in your team. Always hiring the best of the best without giving consideration to the mix of roles people fulfil within your team (and the strengths they bring) could actually be detrimental to your team's success. Effective leaders know when to draw on the different roles and acknowledge (and manage) some of the allowable weaknesses which come with them.... Geniuses and Butterfliesyou need them both...and more. Thank you Farnam Street https://fs.blog/2020/09/being-smart-is-not-enough/

02.01.2022 Do you have a Monitor Evaluator (ME) in your team; always analysing things far too much (in someone’s opinion) before making a decision and saying what if? What about an Implementer (IMP); very methodical and practical at getting things done albeit inflexible with change? And lastly, every team needs a Completer Finisher (CF); do you have a perfectionist, proud of their attention to detail and oblivious to missing your deadlines a little too often? When your team are workin...g remotely and/or working in this time of uncertainty often requiring rapid or frequent changes in process or direction, keeping an eye on the bigger picture and keeping everyone on board can be especially challenging. Team members show different indicators of stress as they deal with change and you may need to manage them all in slightly different ways. Considering their Team Role to assess the best approach can be powerful. Here we discuss 3 of Belbin's 9 Team Roles. Links to all 9 in comments. Please see our article for details on a limited number of COMPLIMENTARY assessments available in order to help you learn more about the Belbin Team Roles inventory. https://horizonmg.com.au//how-to-spot-signs-of-team-overwh
