23.01.2022 It was a windy Easter weekend that brought along some Easter eggs and unexpectedly blew some trees lop-sided. #HornsbySES volunteers hopped along to 15 jobs over the long weekend around the Hornsby Shire. The jobs were mainly snapped tree branches impacting footpaths/roads and fallen trees cracking tiles. Our teams are eggs-ercising social distancing at all times before, during, and after jobs. Don't be alarmed if you see us wearing more personal protective gear than usua...l. We are taking extra precautions like these so that our Unit is able to continue supporting the community during storms, floods, and tsunami. We appreciate your assistance during this time.

16.01.2022 This ANZAC Day we recognise and appreciate the actions of all our servicemen and women. #NSWSES developed out of Civil Defence, with many of our founding members across the service being ex-military. We would like to remind all Australians to not only reflect on the sacrifices made, but to offer support to all past and present defence personnel who may need it. #LestWeForget #volunteers #ANZACDay #HornsbySES

14.01.2022 Season's Greetings This is certainly not the Christmas that we had planned. We have all been impacted one way or another by the COVID-19 global pandemic, some more than others. The great thing about this community of ours, is that we band together during tough times. All the members at Hornsby SES would like to wish everyone from the Hornsby Shire a very Merry Christmas. Stay safe and enjoy this festive period with loved ones in the best way that you can.

14.01.2022 #HornsbySES aims to acknowledge all the hard work our members do, within #NSWSES and in their daily lives. We would like to proudly congratulate SES Local Commander (Upper North Shore & Capability Units) and full-time Firefighter Anthony Northbrook-Hine (Tony Hine) who received a Australian Group Bravery Citation as well as an individual Bravery Award for the delicate rescue of an injured and trapped construction worker on the 29th of October 2004. Emergency crews were called... to a building site in Castle Hill where a worker was trapped in a collapsed three-metre deep trench. Tony entered the dangerous trench to assess the situation where he stayed with the injured person for over two hours. Tony used a trenching tool to dig despite the threat of further caving in, while emergency services worked together until the construction worker was removed to safety. Thank you Tony for your service and consistent hard work in both @NSW SES and @FRNSW. We also wish to thank and congratulate all persons who assisted with the rescue for their commendable efforts.

04.01.2022 HORNSBY HELPS: BIGGER FLOODING IN BEGA As a seasoned In-Water Flood Technician and recent transfer to #HornsbySES, Phillip F, is no stranger to swift water. Over a 5-day deployment, Phillip joined two other volunteers from NSW SES Bankstown Unit as part of a group of 5 Flood Rescue and 5 Storm teams assigned to the South Coast from the Sydney Metropolitan Zone. Phillip's team monitored the rising river around Bega on Saturday at 2-hourly intervals throughout the night, as the... automatic gauges were faulty. On Sunday, the team was moved to northern Moruya to survey the local area, as the extremely high river levels threatened to isolate the town. Aside from a small evacuation on the main street, the Moruya River luckily didn't show its full force. By Monday, the team was moved to Ulladulla to conduct rain gauge reconnaissance and take photos around the three lakes in the area. "Driving through towns like Mogo, it was a little surreal to see water flowing freely through empty blocks, as businesses that were once there had been fire-ravaged and removed by the recent bushfires," Phillip said. Over 40 flood rescues were undertaken across the state during the entire severe weather event which lasted from the 5th to 12th August. #NSWSES #SouthCoastFloods #ifitsfloodedforgetit
