21.01.2022 STAFF PICKS | Sharon felt when she read ‘Phosphorescence’ by Australian journalist, broadcaster, and writer Julia Baird. You might enjoy reading this autobiographical book if you appreciate descriptive, thoughtful narratives about health and well-being. ‘Phosphorescence’ is an illuminating investigation into how we can nurture within ourselves the quality of internal happiness. Sharon felt that this book was very positive and insightful. She said that, ‘Phosphorescence... is easy to read in small bites and is the right book for this year’. Our librarians love to talk about the books they are reading, so feel free to come in and ask for a recommendation!

16.01.2022 STAFF PICKS | Elleni felt when she read ‘The Girl from the Other Side’ by Nagabe. You might love this manga series if you enjoy haunting and thoughtful tales with strong world-building and interesting characters. ‘The Girl from the Other Side’ is set in a fantasy world split between the Inside and the Outside. Those living in both realms are told never to cross over to the other side. But a young girl named Shiva lives on the other side, in a vacant village with a demoni...c guardian known only as "Teacher." When Shiva leaves Teacher's care to seek out her grandmother, the secret behind her mysterious living arrangement comes to light. Elleni said that she loved this series because of the ‘beautiful art and captivating story that keeps me always wanting more’. From Monday 28 September onwards, you can pick up a free craft pack from any Hornsby Shire Libraries branch, or you can use your own craft materials at home. You might enjoy this historical fiction novel if you like intricately plotted and character driven stories told from multiple perspectives over the course of several decades. Jackie felt that ‘The Clockmaker’s Daughter’ was a richly detailed tale about murder, mystery, art, love, and loss. She said that the story was, ‘beautiful yet sad... I fe...ll in love with the characters; felt joy when they did and cried when they cried’.
