25.01.2022 Saturday feels

18.01.2022 Horses are sensitive enough to feel a fly land on their back, yet have an almost indescribable strength. May we all learn some valuable life lessons from these beautiful souls.

18.01.2022 According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, "nearly 450 million people worldwide are currently living with a mental illness, yet nearly two-...thirds of people with a known mental illness never seek treatment." That is a lot of people struggling with a condition they can get help for. In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month let's #breakthestigma of mental health together. Mental health needs are more important than ever, and Eagala is committed to bringing the mental health conversation out into the open. Part of that conversation should be around various treatment options available, and the benefits that one may see. Mental health treatment can be as diverse as the global population; certain treatments may not work on everyone, which is why we are committed to helping others through equine-assisted psychotherapy. Equine-assisted psychotherapy has been shown to help people of all ages. Some people respond well to traditional talk therapy, but people gain insight by doing along with talking. Add to that the unique sensitivity of horses providing non-judgmental feedback, and clients report healing can happen much quicker by involving horses in the psychotherapy process than with traditional treatment modalities. Want to learn more about the Eagala Model and equine-assisted psychotherapy? 15.01.2022 "Recently I had a client tell me 'I’ve done probably over 1,000 hours of therapy, and this...this is so different. I’m feeling things and feel like I’m learning... how to be a human again.' This was his 8th session. Grateful for this model and the impact horses can have on humans." - Kelsey Kirkwood, Eagala Certified member, Acres for Life in Minnesota

08.01.2022 How does Eagala Military Services address the unique needs of the military community? Treating the effects of trauma is never easy. And in military culture, t...he challenge is even greater. The special demands placed on our service members and their families can lead to sometimes-tragic consequences: PTSD, depression, divorce, drug and alcohol addiction, trauma, and suicide. These unique challenges and traumas deserve our most effective support. That’s where the Eagala Model comes in. With a military culture that values hands-on action and doing, Eagala Model equine-assisted psychotherapy often works where other traditional methods of treatment fail. Decidedly action-oriented, the Eagala Model helps military clients understand and recognize patterns, build on their personal strengths, and translate emotional insights into life-changing actions. The experiential nature of working with horses through the Eagala Model engages military personnel in their own healing process, with solutions that meet them squarely on their own terms. Horses have a special ability to help people work through emotional barriers, serving as metaphors and powerful stand-ins for the people, issues, and challenges in the client’s life. The Eagala Model leads to powerful emotional breakthroughs and life-changing insights for the client, strengthening resilience and coping skills. Through the efforts of facilitators certified with Eagala Military Services designation, service members, veterans, and their families can more quickly and completely understand and integrate new perspectives and behaviors into their lives. This is especially true and valuable for people who suffer the effects of trauma. With the Eagala Model therapy, clients challenge themselves in activities with horses that remove much of the perceived stigma associated with traditional talk therapy treatment methods. Eagala is the world’s largest and most professionally respected association for equine-assisted psychotherapy. Eagala’s high standards, combined with its effective, replicable Military Services model, sets it apart from all other horse therapy programs. 07.01.2022 Trauma is held in the body

05.01.2022 Healing and change takes more than talk. Horses are large and powerful, and it is hard to ignore their presence - much like a seemingly impossible life issue. ... As such, horses can provide a metaphor for the client’s life. Bringing horses into the setting brings us into the present moment, so that we aren’t worrying about the past or future, but dealing with what’s happening now. Horses compel us to be here, in this relationship, present-focused, so that clients can look at their lives with clarity and groundedness. Trauma can not always be put into words, and sometimes that can even be counterproductive. Horses engage us physically while we are also processing what’s going on emotionally so that clients can rewrite their life stories and move forward. Horses provide a relationship for safe healing to occur, even without verbalizing. Did you know that horses who no longer have a role in competition or work can be a powerful addition to Eagala programs? Eagala has created a niche for all breeds of horses, whether retired, unwanted, or injured. Because Eagala sessions are ground-based, nothing is required of the horse but to be a horse. They get to continue to have a role in life by helping people. In this way, all horses have the potential to be a part of an Eagala Model treatment team regardless of age, physical health, or limitations. Eagala is committed to doing its part in making a positive impact for rescued and retired horses.

05.01.2022 A powerful story of a woman who hid from herself the one thing that would set her free, for 30 years -- until the horses in her Eagala sessions brought it all out into the light to be transformed.

04.01.2022 Instagram vs. reality

03.01.2022 Since 1949 the US has recognized May as Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year it seems especially appropriate as the country, and the world, is in the mi...ddle of a global pandemic that has caused many of us to physically distance ourselves from our friends and family. Mental health can be a struggle for many people at different points in their lives, whether it is temporary or a life long journey they wrestle with. The important thing to keep in mind is that you are not alone, different methods work for different people. Eagala is a mental health organization dedicated to revolutionizing mental health treatment by incorporating horses in the therapy process. Equine-assisted psychotherapy is where individuals interact with horses, as part of their treatment plan with a licensed mental health professional and an equine specialist. Eagala's Model does not involve riding the horse, rather it involves interacting with the horses and environment through experiences that end up paralleling other areas and relationships in life. The Eagala Model is unique, not just because we involve horses, but because of how we facilitate the clients' experience with the horses to drive change. Horses are highly intelligent and highly sensitive to our emotional state, they can sense where you are at, and can respond in ways that a talk therapy session cannot provide. Each session impacts clients by not just talking, but through experiencing, feeling, and seeing their life stories unfold and change in the moment.

03.01.2022 Horses are social animals with defined roles within a herd. They have unique personalities, attitudes, and moods, and can respond to the feelings we are experie...ncing. They also are highly attuned animals who offer a safe space for reflection and compelling feedback for fears and anxieties clients may be facing. Because of these unique qualities, horses can help people heal from a variety of psychological issues. A space of emotional safety is created without needing to talk - simply being in the presence of the horses can open the possibility to alleviate fears and go more deeply within. The interaction between the horses and the client allows for the processing of traumatic events experientially, by doing rather than by talking about it. This opens the space for the client to feel empowered and to strengthen their resilience so they can rebound from difficult life events - to bounce back and grow and to see the parallels in how they might interact in other relationships and life situations. Since the solutions are personally experienced at an emotional and physical level, they tend to be deeper, more profound, and longer-lasting. Interaction with the horses results in the client finding the strength to transform their life. Ready to get started? Find an Eagala program near you today!
