12.01.2022 ROAD TRAIN NETWORK EXTENDED If you live in Horsham, Nhill, Dimboola or Warracknabeal, you could start to see road trains travelling through your town. Vi...cRoads has just extended its road train network in north-west Victoria after months of campaigning by the Victorian Farmers Federation. Road trains have only been allowed as far south as Ouyen since 2011, but in August last year the network was extended to Beulah to accommodate the transport of hay and grain into drought-affected NSW and Queensland. Now the network has been extended further, south to Horsham and west to the South Australian border along the Western Highway. Ross Johns, the president of the VFF Grains Group, said while the extension was only in place for the duration of the drought, he hoped it would become permanent. "Once these routes are opened up and we see the efficiencies of these higher productivity vehicles, I'm reasonably confident the community and government will accept their longer term use," he said. "I assume NSW road trains would be the first things we would see, but certainly anyone with a truck that's rated road train capacity, and there's plenty of them currently operating in Victoria on b-doubles that can operate road train configurations." Mr Johns said there were other routes that were also suitable for road trains. "I think if we're fair dinkum about taking our industry forward, we really need to look at getting road train access to key domestic outlets along with road train access to export ports. "I would also expect to see at some point in the future road trains carting grain into local receival sites." Operators looking to transport hay and grain on the road train network will require a permit from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. 03.01.2022 Not my words but maybe we should all copy and paste/share this Picture this: You're driving down the motorway and your car suddenly starts shaking. You immedia...tely pull over and your car shuts off. You call for a tow truck. The tow truck arrives and starts loading your vehicle. During this, traffic keeps flying by you at speeds up to if not over 110 kph. There's only inches between you and the speeding traffic. All of a sudden a car slams into the back of your car and the truck. You didn't have enough time to move out of the way. You are pinned between the speeding car and your vehicle. The tow truck operator is trapped under your vehicle. A passerby stops to help and calls 000...Now you wait. You're bleeding, your seriously hurt, you hear from the person who stopped to help that the tow truck operator is not responding. Fear and anxiety steps in. The police, firemen and paramedics get there. Suddenly you feel like you're going to pass out. You awake in the hospital to find out you have several broken bones, a concussion and possibly worse. You also hear that the tow truck operator didn't make it. The driver of the speeding car escaped with a few bruises and cuts. You start to get angry. If only they had slowed down, moved over and gave the tow truck operator enough room to work safely. Now the tow truck operator has lost his life, you have several months of medical recovery ahead of you and the family of the tow truck operator has the rest of their lives without their loved one. Again, if only the other cars driver had slowed down and moved over. Think about this story the next time you are traveling down the road and you see an emergency vehicle or tow truck on the side of the road. It only takes a few seconds out of your time to slow down and move over. They are people just like you. With families, loved ones, just trying to do their job and come home at the end of their day. Be a responsible, careful, considerate driver! #SLOWDOWNANDMOVEOVER #SAVEALIFE #TOWLIVESMATTER PLEASE EVERYONE, COPY & PASTE THIS POST!
