22.01.2022 #TuesdayTipsAndTricks - How to hang pictures & artwork at the right height. An essential element to a well designed room is the height of pictures, mirrors and artwork. Hanging artwork too high is one of the most common mistakes I see in homes. Let me also include clocks in this as most people hang them ridiculously high too. Whether its framed kids drawings, a print, photograph or beautiful canvas, everyone seems to be hanging them so high only a 7 foot giant could reall...y appreciate them. The perfect height is average human eye level which is a surprisingly low 145 cm from the ground. The middle of your artwork should be hung at this height so basically you are looking into the middle of whatever it is you have hung on your walls. It does not matter if you have super tall ceilings either keep it at eye level. If your a super tall family still only add a little to the 145 cm. Some adjustments are necessary if your hanging it over a mantel or bedhead but still keep these low too. If your hanging artwork above a sofa or bed head the gap between the top of the furniture and bottom of your artwork should be around 12 - 30 cm There of course are exceptions to this rule including a gallery wall and also extra large artworks. But as a general rule of thumb this is where you need to hang or re-hang your wall art and pictures. Image Credit: Studio McGee

22.01.2022 I think every laundry needs an island to sort through the endless Maybe you prefer to spread out your washing to sort on your lounge but I use a big table to get it done. I dont have a table or island in my laundry but I wish I did. If you are building or renovating a laundry its a room you should give a lot of thought to, especially if you have or plan to have more than 2 people living in your home. ... My other laundry essential is built in hampers to sort clothes! Those I do have thank goodness. Each one holds up to 4 big loads of washing. What would be on your Dream Laundry list? Inspiration is everywhere for interior design but the one source that is a firm favourite of mine is magazines. Home Magazines are an amazing package of endless ideas with perfectly styled and well curated spaces. My clients often know what they like and will get great inspiration for the pages of gorgeous magazines for their own homes. The secret weapon to help you in pulling together a room is to study the pages of a home magazine. How have they arranged the furniture? Have they mixed colours and patterns? What size rug did they use? How did they style the coffee table? If you really spend the time looking at all these dream spaces you can find ways to create these looks in your own home. So next time you pick up a magazine dont just flick through the pages, really have a look at how a room is layed out or how they have arranged the accessories.

19.01.2022 Do you want to know what I hear in 8 out of 10 client meetings? I dont want it to date and my gentle response is ...but everything dates. The crazy thing is people spend so much more money on a car than they do a kitchen but they never ask the car yard for a car that doesnt date. Guess what that car is going to date anytime in the next 4 years when they bring the new model out. A kitchen or house exterior can be created to have a classic look that will be somewhat... timeless but the reality is that whatever is in wont always be and this relates to fashion, design and even music. Trends are important to facilitate change and they can be fun too! If anyone bought a sofa circa 90s is was blue (maybe even royal blue ) if you bought one in the 2000s it was brown and now here in the last decade its grey! The key to great design is pleasing your taste and style. If you want a classic style kitchen thats great but if you think you would enjoy cooking and entertaining a lot more in your streamline modern minimal kitchen then do that. Maybe we should all put as much money into our kitchens as we do our cars and be happy to update at least every 5-8 years right So whats your dream kitchen style if you could change it in 5 years? 18.01.2022 This is me falling in love with this glorious iconic white building. I seriously am contemplating painting my own exterior white. In real terms this is not a white white, its a soft milky white. Picking the perfect white for an exterior is a challenge and one that is so easy to get wrong You always need to consider where your house is located too. Coastal white is different from rural white or urban white. Mine would have to be the right Blue Mountains white. ... 18.01.2022 This project I completed is one of my favorites not only because of the super lovely clients that trusted me all the ideas I had, but because its a real house and we designed it for real day to day life. Its for kids doing homework at the bench or the family of 4 eating dinner most nights at the banquette area rather than the 8 seater dinning table. I look forward to sharing lots more of this project soon.

17.01.2022 So what colour does a Colour Designer have in her own home? I do get asked this question and basically my entire colour palette for my own home is white + navy + grey + black + greige + timber. I adore colour & as a Colour Designer I get to find and select the most heavenly colours for clients but I love coming home to my neutral colours. I have always tended to gravitate towards what some consider safe and neutral colours to both wear and have in my home. It is what I fi...nd creates harmony & balance for me. I find white very relaxing too Over the years I have embraced various colour trends including a time where I had a lot of deep dark reds in my home (circa 2006) I have a lot of white and I would have more but I have to appreciate the other 4 people who live in this house dont share my obsession with white. Its all balanced out with timber and natural elements like rattan. Its what I love and thats the whole point to decorating and design. Your home needs to be a reflection of the people who live there. White on white with the most perfect touch of navy blue My love affair with lighthouses continues this summer and best of all you can actually stay at the two cottages throughout the year. 11.01.2022 I love stripes and these ikea throws are perfect for covering up the ottomans that are in desperate need of a wash. These white (but washable) armchairs may look crisp and clean in this pic but this is where my 8 year old son likes to eat Twisties or Doritos and wipe his fingers on the lounge . On a recent Ikea visit I spotted this beauty and it was love at first sight. Its called the Färlöv. I love the colour and the style of the lounge but if you are a not a fan of this buttery yellow dont fear as it comes in charcoal, beige, and white. Pictured is the 2 seater but it also comes in single chair and 3 seater. It has high end styling but at $799 its definately a fab find. We also made it look completely fabulous by carefully selecting all the elements like the stone bench top, the perfect white for the cabinetry and new wall colour. 04.01.2022 This is the kitchen I featured last week and I want to tell you why I loved this project so much. Most kitchens these days are galley style or with a freestanding island, but what if you have a U-shape or L-shape kitchen? Sometimes our homes are not Pinterest perfect when we start out renovating them and thats ok. Working within the design of your original kitchen doesnt have to be a negative. Beautiful open spaces can be created with different kitchen floor plans. Thes...e clients were happy to have no overhead cabinets and we opted for a timber floating shelf for some style and interest. It is an extremely functional kitchen and the clients are over the moon with the final result. I loved this because the solutions were not straight out of the box and I dont often get to do a U-shape kitchen. So tell me whats your favorite kitchen layout? 01.01.2022 Here is a pic I just took of one of my favourite spaces in my house to work at outside of my studio. Can you see the light pouring in over the end chair! Its pretty much like that all day, hooray for sunshine. Its a great spot to work with colours in the natural light. HOWEVER...Lets talk about those Cypress Pine floors... it is the one thing that drives me completely bananas because I have a love/hate relationship with it. Love it because it was original and its hardwear...ing. Its kids with scooters, dog and high heel proof. We drag things on it, move furniture without a second thought & let our kids just be kids on it. Yes it marks but you never really notice it. Hate it because it becomes more orange every year. I recently just made peace with it by adding some tan elements to room. I have always wanted to stain it dark or have it limewashed but 15 years later its still the same. Do you love your Cypress Pine natural or have you stained them?
