25.01.2022 We'll be delivering broad beans in Swan Hill Friday morning if anyone is interested. $6.00 per kilo (minimum of 2kg) and free delivery. Or grab a 5kg box for $25.00. Delivery to home or work in Swan Hill. Aquadulce variety - nice tender beans, grown without the use of sprays or chemicals. We'll also have broad beans at Swan Hill Farmers market on Sunday 1st November.... Apologies to all our Flemington customers - Gladys still won't let us come to market without having to fly home to Sydney and stay in quarantine for 2 weeks! Good news though - heaps of fruit on our nectarines and peaches and a good crop on our apricots. Surely Gladys will let us travel by December!!

25.01.2022 Hope those that managed to get some mandarins two week ago enjoyed them! If you missed out, or would like some more, we can help you out at Flemington this Sunday. We plan to pick a lot more this time, so hopefully enough for everyone. We highly recommend placing an order if you would like some put aside - we don't want you to miss out! If you'd like some inspiration about what to do with a box of mandies - why not try making a Mandarin Upside Down Tea cake? The one pictu...red was made by Rita from Yarram using Howieson Farm mandies. Looks delicious doesn't it? How do Howieson Farm mandies get all the way to Yarram? Lisa travels to market, visits younger sister and passes them on, younger sister visits older sister and drops them off, older sister shares them around with the local community at Yarram! That's food miles with love . Nice job! We'll also have dried apricots & peaches, jams, treats and some Jap pumpkin. Sadly, our Jap pumpkins are not keeping as well as they usually do and we expect that they may only last another couple of weeks. It would appear that we are not the only ones finding that this seasons pumpkins are not keeping well. Lucky this season wasn't a bumper crop - that would have been disappointing!! Enough sad pumpkin news, we look forward to seeing your smiling faces at Flemington on Sunday

25.01.2022 All packed ready to go to Swan Hill Farmers Market tomorrow. Just finished pickin' broad beans and they are now safely tucked away in the refrigerated van. If you love broad beans stop past and see us tomorrow morning - buy a bag or buy a box, whatever takes your fancy. Don't like broad beans? That's okay, we've also got dried apricots, dried peaches (very limited qty), Fruit Treats, Dried Apricot Jam, Dried Peach Jam and Blood Orange Marmalade. Hope to see you tomorrow! (And hope it's not too long before we can head south to see our Flemington Farmer's Market family - we miss you!)

22.01.2022 Don't these roasted Elberta peaches look amazing? From the tree on Thursday, to market this morning, to Lily's kitchen this afternoon!

22.01.2022 So it looks like it might be a little while before we can travel south to see you all again - let's hope we can see you for Christmas! In the mean time, we have listed some more of our products on our stall on Farmhouse Direct, including a couple of 'pantry boxes' made up of a mix of our products. Perhaps you need a bit of Howieson Farm love to keep your spirits up, or maybe a friend or family member would benefit from knowing that you are thinking of them? We'd love you to... take a look at our stall on Farmhouse Direct and see if we can cheer you up. The link to our stall is: https://farmhousedirect.com.au/producer/162604 We'll be adding another larger pantry box tomorrow for diehard Howieson Farm fans!! Keep strong, keep safe and dream of Elberta peaches

21.01.2022 It's hard to believe that Elberta season is nearly over. We know that many of you really look forward to this time of year, and it is short, but sweet. We have plenty of Elbertas picked and ready for market this coming Sunday, we do hope to be back again with some more on the 7th February - but no guarantees. So, if you'd like to grab some more Elberta peaches please place an order! ... Ordering will be the same as last week: Orders for this Sunday close at 9pm Thursday night (or earlier if sold out) We will open to customers at 8.30am Sunday morning Orders will be held until 12pm Sunday for pick-up, if not picked up then we will offer them to other customers Please text 0427 173 330 if you are unable to pick-up your order on the day (text is preferred as emails & Facebook can be difficult to access on the phone) Please bring back any empty styrene boxes as we can use them when packing pre-orders Looking forward to seeing you all this Sunday!

19.01.2022 Good news! Flemington Farmers Market is definately on tomorrow. Back to 1 person per 4 sq mtrs, so may be a queue at the gate. Remember, we have EFTPOS to minimise contact and we now have a 'sneeze screen' to keep me at a safe distance and keep the customers safe!! Sooo looking forward to seeing you all

18.01.2022 Just letting you all know that we won't be delivering this week, but we will be delivering next week - and it will be the last opportunity to get some of our blood oranges and tangelos. We'll post again later this week to remind everyone, or you can place an order now if you don't want to miss out. And to lift your spirits a little we have a couple of pics of some of the our trees in blossom being visited by bees (pics taken on a warm day last week as it certainly hasn't been bee weather over the weekend!). The white blossom is our Storey apricots and the pink blossom is our May Bright nectarines. Elbertas are still sleeping - which is okay as they worked damn hard last season!!

17.01.2022 For lovers of our Dried Peach Jam........

17.01.2022 Anyone need a mask for their kids? These could also be sent by post. Made by my sister Sharon - always gotta be makin' something

16.01.2022 Don't forget to place an order for your Fairtimes! This is it for Howieson Farm stone fruit for Summer 2020/21. And don't hold back - Fairtime peaches store very well as they have firmer flesh than Elberta peaches. Not sure how to store tree-ripened stone fruit? Keep them on the bench and they will continue to ripen, or they keep well in the fridge as long as you keep them protected from drying air. Pop them in the veggie crisper, a plastic container, a recycled plastic bag... or even the paper bag they come in will help to protect them. If you buy a box of peaches and the box can fit in the fridge, just pop a damp tea towel over them, and re-wet it if it dries out. You'd be surprised how long keep! See more

16.01.2022 Forgot to place your order for delivery later this week? Don't worry, we still have a few spots left - but get in quick so you don't miss out!!

15.01.2022 Tuesday entries in our 'Peach Pic' competition. If you'd like to participate, please make sure you take the time to view ALL the pictures and give a thumbs up to the ones you like. To enter, send your photo by direct message by 9pm Thursday 11th March. Voting closes 9pm Saturday 13th March. The pic with the most likes wins a 7kg box of Fairtime peaches this Sunday!

15.01.2022 You know spring is just around the corner..... Went out to put the dogs to bed around 11pm last Wednesday evening and was greeted by the sound of spring. Nothing to see in the video, but turn up the sound and see if you can guess what it is.

14.01.2022 Firstly, no market for Howieson Farm this weekend! We are just trying to put in place an option for the next few markets due to the COVID lockdown and border permit restrictions. We are due to attend Flemington on Sunday 19th July, however if we attend we will be required to self-isolate when we get home for 14 days. This makes things a bit difficult for off-farm work, which is also important for us. An option we are seriously looking into is sending our produce to Melbourn...e with our local freight company and offering home delivery to our customers. There would be no minimum order value but there would be a delivery fee of no more than $10 (still working this out). Produce available would be: tangelos, blood oranges, possibly some mandarins, dried apricots & peaches, Peach Treats, Dried Apricot & Dried Peach Jam, Blood Orange marmalade & Tangelo marmalade. All orders would need to be pre-paid and we are hoping to be able to take credit card payments over the phone or have PayPal available. This would enable deliveries to be contactless. We are hoping to be able to have Yasmin, who is part of 'Team Peach', doing the deliveries. There would be a limited window of opportunity to place an order as we would need to have all orders packed by Tuesday night, ready to be picked up on Wednesday to arrive in Melbourne Thursday morning to be delivered Sunday 19th to Tuesday 21st July (still finalising these details). Please let us know if you might be interested. If we do go ahead we will aim to have all details posted tomorrow evening to allow a bit of time for orders to be placed. There may also be limited numbers of deliveries available. Also, an enormous thank-you to those that placed an order for delivery last Saturday evening, and genuine apologies to those that did order but missed out on their delivery as time ran out. Your support is most certainly appreciated See more

14.01.2022 DELIVERIES FOR LATE NEXT WEEK We would like to say a huge 'thank-you' to all our customers that placed orders for delivery last week, we really appreciate your support while we are unable to attend Flemington Farmers Market. We also need to thank Paddlewheel at Prahran, who have been generous enough to allow us to add all the orders onto a pallet of produce we were sending to them. Being able to combine the two we have been able to reduce freight costs and make deliveries p...ossible at a reasonable cost to our customers. Last, but certainly not least, we thank Yasmin for delivering the orders to everyone in a very speedy fashion! Due to the success of our first round of deliveries, we are going to do it all over again . 13.01.2022 Sad news for Flemington customers - a decision has just been made to cancel market tomorrow, which we fully understand. Not all bad though if you are desperate for some Howieson Farm produce. I am already in Melbourne and am happy to spend our market site fee on fuel and do some home deliveries tomorrow. Minimum order value for delivery will be $20, EFTPOS available and deliveries to non lockdown areas to be done first, then to lockdown areas after to minimise risk. 12.01.2022 We are pleased to report that Mother Nature has blessed us with plenty of frosty mornings over the past couple of weeks so our mandarins are well and truly ready now. So why not grab a pocket-sized snack full of vitamin C at Flemington Farmers market this Sunday? It is also officially 'pumpkin season' - winter is the perfect time for pumpkin, whether it is pumpkin soup, roast pumpkin, pumpkin gnocchi, the list goes on. And we can guarantee our Jap pumpkins are very tasty - even Bakers Delight Swan Hill agree as they use them in their pumpkin bread and pumpkin scones - don't they look delicious? Also on board will be: dried apricots & peaches, jams and treats. Feel free to place an order if you'd like anything put aside so you don't miss out!

12.01.2022 We just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for making our 2020/21 stone fruit season one of the best we've had! Without your support it just wouldn't be the same. We also need to thank the following.... Mother Nature - for putting on an unseasonably mild summer, which the fruit seemed to love! Yasmin - the main member of 'Team peach'. The one that is always there when needed and gets things organised.... Kylie - who is happy to turn up at the crack of dawn to help unload and get a head start on packing orders. Jenelle - who always has a smile and soaks up all the info about our produce to pass on to customers. Flemington Farmers Market - for always making room for us when we have produce to sell! We hope you all enjoyed your fresh stone fruit and we look forward to seeing you over the coming months in a much more relaxed mode at market. And remember, it's only 8 months until stone fruit season again!! From the Farm, Farmer G & Lisa

10.01.2022 Yes, Flemington Farmers Market is on this Sunday, and YES, we will be there!! We'll have the van filled up with all things vitamin C - Imperial mandarins, Emperor mandarins (taste like Honey Murcotts) and super juicy tangelos. Not sure if they can fight off the dreaded virus, but they sure do taste good.... Other goodies available this Sunday are: Dried apricots & peaches, Dried Apricot Jam & Dried Peach Jam, Peach & Apricot Treats and a few more Jap pumpkins. A little hint if you're coming to market - try to avoid driving through the suburbs affected by lockdown if possible as we don't want you to have to explain to the authorities just how good Flemington Farmers Market is! As always, we encourage you to place an order if you don't want to miss out. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday

09.01.2022 Mail order mandies!! No market for us this weekend, but we have plenty of Imperial Mandarins and will be bringing them to Flemington next Sunday. 04.01.2022 We are still a week away from market but we have some exciting news...we are expecting the pitter patter of little feet! Little webbed feet!! Eggs due to hatch next weekend - how exciting. A word or warning - it's a lengthy story. A friend has a pair of beautiful brown chinese geese, but it appears they may be friends without benefits! Over the past 4 years the goose has laid an abundance of eggs and eventually sat on them only to find that they are infertile. So we sourc...ed 6 fertile eggs from north of Newcastle and had them posted. One broke on the way, so then there were 5. Mother goose was still busy laying eggs and hadn't decided to start sitting when we decided that the 5 eggs would need some human intervention (they had been sitting in a box in a cool place until she made her mind up to sit). Panic took hold, posted on Facebook 'incubator needed', and a local replied and lent us an incubator. We have never incubated fertile eggs before - can't be that difficult, can it? Google it - goose eggs are difficult to incubate - aaaggghhh! Googled, Googled and Googled some more. Found heaps of info. Eggs into incubator at 14 days old (that is apparently the limit - no older than 14 days). Candled eggs after 10 days and we had 4 embryos developing and one 'clear' egg! Kept candling eggs each day and at day 16 we 3 eggs with lots of embryo movement. Good news too, the goose had finally made the decision to sit about a week into incubating. Decision was made on Monday 16th to relocate eggs from the incubator to the goose, and the video attached shows the proud goose sitting tight on her nest. The countdown is on! Goose eggs take between 28-30 days to hatch, so they are due to emerge on 28th-30th November, if we looked after them properly in the incubater and Mother Goose does her bit. Will update after next weekend if the project was a success and we have been able to reward the goose for all her efforts after all these years trying. She and her partner are inseperable and will make wonderful parents. Fingers and webbed feet crossed!! See more

If you'd like to participate, please make sure you take the time to view ALL the pictures and give a thumbs up to the ones you like. Voting (liking) closes 9pm Saturday 13th March. The pic with the most likes wins a 7kg box of Fairtime peaches this Sunday!

03.01.2022 ORDERS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR OUR FINAL MARKET FOR ELBERTA PEACHES FOR 2020. Sadly, we have to advise that this coming Sunday is the last market for our Elberta peaches for this season . Pictured is what we lovingly refer to as a 'Farmer G Special' - a big fat Elberta peach ready to be gobbled up!... The trees are bare and are preparing for a well-earned rest. Our original Elberta peach trees are about 20 years old and have had an amazing crop this season. So if you'd like one last treat of delicious peaches place an order so you don't miss out. We won't be holding back any peaches for those that don't place an order as we'd like to reward our dedicated customers who declare their love of real tree-ripened fruit and place a pre-order. Don't get too carried away though as the last pick of the season won't store quite as long as those picked in the middle of the season - but who wants to store them anyway! Ordering is the same as the last 2 weeks - pre-orders will close at 9pm Thursday night, or earlier if sold out. We already have orders for about one third of the peaches we'll be bringing. We look forward to seeing you all at Flemington this Sunday for the last Elberta Hurrah!!

02.01.2022 We have been hoping that things would have started to get a bit better by now as we desperately want to return to market, however we must do what is necessary to get on top of the COVID virus as best as possible. We still have plenty of blood oranges and tangelos available, along ...with our usual pantry goodies, and Yasmin has kitted herself out with the necessary safety gear and will be delivering again at the end of next week.
