24.01.2022 The Northern Socials Cricket Club would like to send our condolences and love to Shaun, Danny and the Newitt family on the passing of their mother, Joan earlier today. The family have been involved with our club for many years and it was always lovely to see Joan at the club. All our love to Joan’s family and friends.

22.01.2022 Joel made 66 before going on to take 6 for 12 from his 8 overs against the Cobras on the weekend, leading our First XI to a 137 run win. Well played, Joel!

20.01.2022 Congratulations, Danny Newitt for taking the field for the 100th time as a Social! Danny first took the field for us on November 6th, 2011 and achieves the milestone 9 years and 8 days later! His career bests with us include a high score of 90 and best bowling figures of 4/7!... Danny cracked his first Premiership with the club last year with the Second XI, playing alongside his brother and club legend, Shaun. Danny has been a great contributor to our club with many years served on the board and is our current Treasurer. He has also taken a keen interest on ensuring the clubs history is recorded and maintained for many years to come, becoming our club Historian. This year Danny will also play an on field leadership role as the Second XI captain! Congratulations Danny and thank you for your massive contribution to our club.

19.01.2022 Last one for tonight is for Daniel Di Gioia! Daniel scored 115 in Round 10 against Fairfield. Daniel came to the crease at 4/48 before putting on a 126 run partnership with Alex Williamson (41). Daniel scored big and quick hitting 6 after 6! It was a performance that had us sitting on the edge of our seat at every ball wondering what was coming next.... Daniel has captained the team over the last two seasons, that saw the team come runner-up in 2018/19 and go undefeated in 2019/20. He’s also known for his exceptional glove-work and quick hands behind the wicket, quickly becoming known as one of the skilled wicket keepers in the comp. Great work DG! Daniel’s biggest highlight of 2020 is yet to come, with his wife Rachael currently 38-weeks pregnant with their first baby ! Best wishes to Daniel and Rachael for the exciting arrival to come!

18.01.2022 Happy birthday to our official Northern Socials Cricket Club Historian, serving treasurer and reigning 2nd XI flag winner Danny Newitt. We believe a bloke putting in that much for our club deserves the best ISO birthday possible! (Danny on the left celebrating the flag with his brother and club life member Shaun)

17.01.2022 Life Membership awarded to Joel Simmons! Joel is awarded Life Membership after more than 16 years of direct service to the club. However his indirect involvement in the club stretches before he was born, through his dad, Garvin being a great of the club. With the cricket club deeply ingrained in the family, it was only natural for Joel to get heavily involved himself. Joel first his the field as a junior way back in 2003. Through his junior days, Joel’s bowling was always a s...trength of his and the team and his batting was always handy. Not many that witnessed it will forget his 102 not out in the 13s in 06/07 against Cobras, even after having to retire on 35 first. Joel also went on to play in the under 14s, 16s and 18s State Championships with the Northern region alongside his Socials teammate, Haydn Love. Fresh out of under 16s junior competitions, Joel quickly became a regular member of our First XI team between 2011 and 2015. As a young fella, with no doubt, he held his own during this period which was a particularly strong time for the competition. Overall, Joel has played 171 games for the Socials. Has a high score of 127 not out and best bowling figures of 6/53. Joel has spent the last few years as a dedicated committee man, a strong supporter, whilst still playing the occasional game for the club when he’s not working. Congratulations on this special achievement, Joel. A member for life!

15.01.2022 2019/20 Steve Buckingham First XI Bowling Averages, won by Joel Kolep! Steve Buckingham is regarded as one of the best bowlers ever to come out of our competition and holds our club record of winning Champion Player 8 times! Steve is a Life Member, Hall of Fame Member and was named in our greatest team ever! In his first year at the club, Joel not only wins our bowling averages, but also won it for the competition! Joel took 39 wickets at an average of 10.54 which included be...st figures of 5/16 (20.1) in Round 9 against Old Ivanhoe. Congratulations on a fantastic season with the ball, Joel!

14.01.2022 Round 1 Results! We took the field yesterday for the first time this season! The First XI match saw the 2019/20 Jack Quick and Jika Shield Premiers go head to head. The match went down to the final over with Rivergum surpassing our score with 5 balls remaining. Hamza Queshi topped scored for us in his first game at the club with 38 runs, whilst coach Rob LaRose was the pick of the bowlers with his 3/25.... The Second XI promoted from D Grade to C Grade this year didn't miss a beat, recording a 5 wicket win over Fairfield. Dinindu (Crash) Jayatillaka started the season with a bang, making 97 with the bat. Glenn Egan had the best bowling figures of 2/20 with Shaun Newitt not far behind with 2/23. NEXT WEEK First XI Vs Holy Trinity (AWAY, Hayes Park) Second XI Vs Olympic Colts (HOME, W Ruthven VC Reserve) Third XI Vs Heidelberg West (Sullivan Park) GO SOCIALS!

13.01.2022 Tonight we announce our 2019/20 First XI Fielding Award winner, Alex Williamson! Alex is known for his ability with the bat but is a very handy addition in the field. There are only a few that are able to get direct-hit run-outs like he can! We've seen many batters take their chance on Alex's arm and sent them walking back to the change rooms. Alex's time at Socials goes a long way back, following in his dads footsteps and playing his first game with the club in 2005. ... He's played 180 games at Socials and accumulated almost 3,000 runs across his junior and senior days. His biggest score came in last years Preliminary Final where he picked up 134 not out against Cameron. We send our best wishes to Alex as he chooses to take his talents elsewhere and on to another path for the next season but hope to see him back with us one day soon. Well done, Alex!

09.01.2022 Life Membership awarded to Tyson Austin! Tyson is awarded Life Membership after 14 years with the club, first arriving by chance in 2006! Tyson and his Dad, Troy went down to the trotting-track one day to watch their friend, Michael ‘Mad Mick’ Monteleone play in the Thirds. The team was short so Troy pulled on the whites, and from there the Austin father-son team were locked in.... During that first season in 2006 Tyson filled in as a sub-fielder occasionally, including in the 2006/07 Third XI Premiership. After some persistence and support from Thirds Captain, Arty Ellis, and inspired by his dad, Tyson joined the team as a first time player in 2007/08. Tyson won his first Premiership with the club in that year scoring 16no in the Grand Final, a 28 run win against Rivergum. Since then, Tyson has played a total of 174 games, a top score of 89 in the 3rd XI Prelim Final in 2017/18 in a season where he captained the team and picked up 545 runs in the season; and has best bowling figures of 3/28. More recently Tyson has held the opening batting position in our First XI and has been our Vice President over the last three seasons, whilst he has been on the committee since 2014. Tyson is always working to better the club and support where he can, including being the driver behind our Wurundjeri Acknowledgement plaque and ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony where Wurundjeri Elder, Aunty Di Kerr and Darebin Mayor, Susan Rennie unveiled our plaque in December 2018. Thank you, Tyson for all of your work and leadership at the club in your time. Now a Member for Life!
