20.01.2022 If moth caterpillars, sod web worm and lawn army worms are driving you crazy, there is an easy way to reduce their numbers. Bug zapper lights are hopeless for z...apping mosquitoes, but they certainly put a dent in the moth population. Night thrips currently in plague proportions are also attracted to night lights. Best of all, at our place the green tree frogs and native geckos line up under the light to catch their falling prey. Small units don't zap beetles as they cannot enter the small grill access. Mine operates from 6pm - 10pm at the moment! Hearing the light gently zapping in the background is music to my ears. See more

01.01.2022 OK, so you watched GA on the weekend and are keen to grow a feijoa like Tino. Questions to my inbox have already started pouring in! Yes, feijoa are grown in Ql...d on the Sunshine Coast and elsewhere. However, you need more than one plant (preferably 3); they are magnets to fruit fly; they need heaps of water to bear well and commercial NZ varieties sold in fruit retailers are not available as plants in Australia because of Plant Breeder's Rights and royalty arrangements. Find out more here or perhaps pay Hinterland Feijoas a visit some time in the future. https://hinterlandfeijoas.com.au/about-feijoas/ And if you already grow a feijoa and it never bears or only produces tiny fruit, chances are it is an ornamental variety rather than a fruiting one. Never buy anything that is not a named variety even if it is in the fruit section of a plant retailer.
