25.01.2022 After dominating all season in the surf Noosa Heads ironwoman Lana Rogers has again swept away her rivals to tonight take out the prestigious Peter Lacey Athlete of the Year award. This was the highlight of Surf Life Saving Queensland's second night of Awards of Excellence held online. Rogers had a stellar season taking out the double in the open female long course in the Coolangatta Gold and the NutriGrain Ironwoman Series.... She was also recognised for volunteering her time to assist with the Seahorse Nippers program which enables kids with disability to enjoy surf activities. 23.01.2022 Check out what Ryan’s doing post graduation! I graduated from USC last year with a Bachelor of Education / Bachelor of Science. After Graduating from USC I have been able to step straight into an amazing full time job at Nambour Christian College, where I teach Years 8-10 in the subjects of Core PE, Mathematics, RecreationalStudies, Science and Academic PE. This year has been an interesting year to start my teaching career, with face to face learning initiallythen transit...ioning to supported learning at home but it is definitelya year to remember. Unfortunatelydue to Covid-19 and with me racing for team USA, all of my racing was cancelled. This year I was meant to be attending a World Cup for Surf Life Saving in Japan, US National Titles in Texas, USA , the California Gold in California, and the World Championships in Italy. During Isolation earlier in theyear, my Girlfriend and I ran a Marathon (42.2km), and I have just signed up for a Running race on the Gold Coast in December. We are so proud of your accomplishments post graduation and congratulations on getting your teaching job! #usc #highperformance #lifeatusc #uschpsa #studentathlete #uschighperformance #sunshinecoast #sport #surflifesaving

19.01.2022 Sunshine Coast local and Rio silver medallist Alistair Donahoe is taking part in a virtual Tour de France event to raise much needed funds for Lifeline Australia. The 25-year-old paralympian tore 90 per cent of his tricep and 70 per cent of his bicep on a rope swing in Darwin, NT, when he was just 14. "I've been riding my bike in some form or another since I was about 12," he said.... Donahoe represented Australia and came third in his first world championship which put him in the running to go to the Rio Paralympic Games in Brazil in 2016 where he won two silver medals. "I step away to the paracycling world championships a few times a year and with the major focus of going and winning gold at Tokyo." Donahoe will take part in this year's Fulgaz French Tour 2020 to raise money for Lifeline. The event takes place in 21 stages over 23 days and aims to raise $40,000 for Lifeline Australia who have experienced an increased demand during COVID-19. Participants can use the Fulgaz Virtual Cycling App to virtually ride through Europe in 4K resolution. Donahoe said he and his paracycling team prepared for Tokyo on the platform by familiarising themselves with the Olympic course. "It's basically a really cool way for people who are stuck at home or in the office kind of participate in the Tour De France and also raise money for Lifeline which is, to me, a super important charity to get behind," he said. 13.01.2022 Article written by The Roar, as Hannah Dodd reflects on the importance of Remembrance Day. When Hannah Dodd travels to Tokyo for the 2021 Paralympics as part of the Australian national wheelchair basketball team, it won’t be her first Paralympic Games. Dodd made her Paralmypic debut in London as an equestrian athlete. Because of the cost of equestrian, Dodd found it difficult to participate.... Wanting to stay active, Dodd decided to try wheelchair basketball for fun. I started playing competitively about three or four months after taking up the sport, and the rest is history. Wheelchair basketball had a greater impact on Dodd, introducing her to veteran sports and Invictus Games. Her interest in veteran sports has led her to train with social clubs like the Suncoast Spinners, where she met veterans like ex-Air Force member and Invictus Games 2021 participant Stephen French. I have family members, on both sides of the family, that have served, said Dodd. I also have a brother who served in Afghanistan for quite a few tours. So for me Remembrance Day is obviously very important. For Dodd, sport has an important role in improving quality of life for veterans and their families. It not only has important physical benefits, but benefits for mental health too. Sport is something you can really focus on and you can set goals in. I think it fits very well with the lifestyle they come from and it makes that transition back to society a lot easier. For me, sport was always something that made me feel not disabled, as weird as that is. I grew up with a disability, I always knew I was disabled, but it was never a big part of my identity. I think sport is a big equaliser, regardless of what sport it is. I am 100% committed to my sport and I train at USC with the high-performance Paralympic Swim Team; where I plan to swim in Tokyo as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games - the first CG where vision impaired athletes will be present. During... the COVID lockdown I undertook studies of a Certificate 3&4 in Fitness to add to my Bachelor Degree, and recently I have made my own business. I have a website, I have built my own online course, and my purpose is to help people from all over the world to develop their swimming, health & fitness.
