25.01.2022 *Sarah contacted me about a letter her husband had received from his employer. There were 3 things that stood out to me... 1. It used the word 'serious' on several occasions in reference to the allegations.... 2. It was long... 3 pages. 3. It directly referenced the organisations policies, procedures and code of conduct. If you recieve a letter such as this, your employment may be in jeopardy and you need to respond appropriately. If you are worried or unsure of what you can do, we can help. 24.01.2022 FRIDAY FUNNY ... Wait what??

22.01.2022 Following on from my post last Friday about 'serious letters' from your employer, here is the advice that I would give you if you receive one... Prepare. 1. Read the letter in its entirety, what are the key points (Allegations should be clearly listed).... 2. Consider what they are saying... are you at fault? 3. Have a think about what happened, write some notes. Are there things that are important but not included in the letter? Make notes, you will need to highlight these later on. 4. You will likely be asked to attend a meeting. Organize a support person (HR Local can provide a professional support person service). 5. Don't delay, this is something that you want to deal with and move forward rather than drag it out. Attend the Meeting. 1. Be honest, admit liability if you are at fault and acknowledge you should have done better. 2. Don't lie, you are there because they probably have some sort of evidence. 3. It is not a court of law, you are not innocent until proven guilty. You can be proven responsible on the balance of probability and whether it would be reasonable to assume the allegation is 'substantiated'. 4. Be open to education and training. 5. Ask what the worst case scenario is and show remorse... empathy is your best friend here. Need some help? Reach out!

16.01.2022 Friday Funny... this got me good...

14.01.2022 So proud of Aakriti Pandey, after reaching out to me on LinkedIn, I was able to give her some tips and tricks to assist her in securing a spot in the Internship Program with Cisco. Due to complete her MBA this year I can't wait to see what Aakriti achieves with her determination, exuberance and positive mindset! #youvegotthis

14.01.2022 The Interview Process may now include a video interview as an initial stage. This article is a great preparation tool should you be offered a video interview https://www.sunrockrecruitment.co.uk//video-interviewing-t

13.01.2022 This will make you laugh or cry... hope you're having a great weekend

13.01.2022 Advice fail... Perhaps if you are a design consultant or marketing whiz but our advice to everyone else would be to keep it simple and professional. So many organisations and recruiters use software to read resumes these days so a Word doc is A OK

11.01.2022 Have a blooming good weekend

11.01.2022 An excellent case study for recruitment. I've screen dumped the contents for later... it is so good! (for HR nerds like me) I can see the author's intention, to narrow down the talent pool so he doesn't have to wade through 1000's of applications (Lazy?). Save money on recruiters? (Tight?) No recruiter would approve this content. Why?... Because recruiters know anyone worth their weight in gold performance review stars would not consider this role. Can you imagine what this guy would be like to work for? It seems like he may have a personality disorder. He wants you to be available 24/7 for 5 to 10 years? Mate, that's actually against the law. Employers can be held personally liable under the WHS Act. No good being a superstar if you are in prison. 10.01.2022 I cannot say enough how important it is that you have a supportive manager. If your manager does not support you, get out now. Since rejoining the workforce, I have found my people, my purpose and it is so very much appreciated to be valued for what I do. It is that old saying, find work that you love and you will never work a day in your life I hope you are all staying safe, healthy and well during these challenging times #weareallinthistogether

08.01.2022 TUESDAY TIP Looking for a job and not having much success? There are certain factors that influence the job market and those can be... 1. School holidays! Lots of parents take holidays at the time so advertising slows down too. (Hiring managers and recruiters are parents too!) ... 2. EOFY has an impact on financials and budgets and hence organisations hold off from advertising new positions until the new year. 3. Peak season depending on the business... retail ramp up at Christmas, holiday destinations over summer etc. 4. New Years resolutions often means people are looking for change in their life including work, so resignations means new opportunities. Be conscious and informed on your industry, when will they need staff? Peak periods? Major events or competitors in the area poaching staff? February and September are bumper months for job vacancy advertising... get your applications ready if you are in the market for a new role. Need a hand? Reach out

07.01.2022 Friday Funny (Or in this case, not so funny...) What not to do on LinkedIn or any social media platform really.... This bright spark made these comments and more on a post by a CEO of a recruitment agency in Sydney in his line of work... Needless to say, he got hammered (or was hammered?) This sort of behaviour can have serious ramifications for your employment. Made a mistake online? We can help...

07.01.2022 A father before he died said to his son: This is a watch your grandfather gave me, and it’s more than 200 years old. But before I give it to you, go to the wat...ch shop on the first street, and tell him I want to sell it, and see how much he offers you. He went, and then came back to his father, and said, The watchmaker offered $5 because it’s old. He said to him: Go to the coffee shop. He went and then came back, and said: He offered $5 father. Go to the museum and show them that watch. He went then came back, and said to his father They offered me $1 million for this piece. The father said: I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way. Don’t find yourself in the wrong place and get angry if you’re not valued. Those that know your value are those who appreciate you, don’t stay in a place where nobody sees your value. I see your worth, but you must know your worth - seek it, find it, believe it!
