23.01.2022 Did you know? Because workplaces haven’t tackled mental health like other health and safety issues, workplace mental health injuries are now the fastest growing type of workplace injury in Australia. Find out more:... www.mindyourhead.org.au See more

21.01.2022 The Federal Government’s lack of action to protect those in aged care from this pandemic can no longer continue. We need to see this report and its recommendations, and we need to see the Federal Government respond quickly to address the aged care crisis in this country. On behalf of every older Australian, their loved ones, and all aged care workers, we call on the Federal Government to table this report at the earliest opportunity.... https://thenewdaily.com.au//aged-care-covid-death-bombshe/

21.01.2022 Aged care workers have never had to work harder or under more dangerous conditions than now. Facility lockdowns and having to care for multiple sick, lonely and stressed residents and their families incurs a cost that isn’t reflected in their salaries. We demand an immediate and significant pay rise for all employees working in the aged care sector, and a commitment to substantial increases to pay and conditions over the longer term. 20.01.2022 Congratulations to HACSU on the launch of the Reproductive Health and Wellbeing Leave Campaign! Reproductive and sexual health care has traditionally been a taboo topic in the workplace, with members preferring to take time off without pay and struggle on without workplace support. From menstrual pain and discomfit to the need for surgical interventions like vasectomy or hysterectomy to assisted reproduction and gender transitioning therapies, Reproductive Health and Wellbein...g Leave takes away the embarrassment for employees and employers making it clear that there is workplace support for the most personal health issues. You can learn more about the campaign here: https://www.reproductivehealthleave.com.au/

20.01.2022 HSU proudly joined our Vic branch Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) recently to support their ongoing stop works. HSU National Secretary Lloyd Williams shared words of encouragement with the workers taking part in the campaign. HACSU members are demanding real change. Fair pay, decent conditions and safe worksites are essential to providing a better mental health system. Workers, carers, consumers, families we all need our mental health system fixed.

20.01.2022 HSUWA member Ted was reinstated in his job after being unfairly dismissed - a fantastic outcome for Ted and the hardworking HSUWA team! To protect your rights at work the best thing you can do is join a union. Don't delay, join the HSU today: https://hsu.net.au/join/

19.01.2022 It’s time for the Federal Government to deliver real change in aged care. As HSU member Lindy said:

19.01.2022 The HSU proudly supports the School Strike 4 Climate national day of action! Climate change affects our future prosperity, living standards and health. All of us are affected so none of us can be complacent. The demands are; no public funds for gas and other damaging fossil fuel projects. Instead, recovery funds should be spent on: 1. Resourcing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led solutions that guarantee land rights and care for country 2. The creation of jobs t...hat fast-track solutions to the climate crisis and help communities recover 3. Projects that transition our economy and communities to 100% renewable energy by 2030, through expanded public ownership Learn more about the campaign here: https://www.schoolstrike4climate.com/buildourfuture #fundourfuturenotgas

18.01.2022 It’s time for the Morrison Government to deliver real change in aged care. That means delivering safe staff levels, better pay, secure work, ongoing training and a safe workplace. Only this will ensure the high quality care that all older Australians deserve.... You can join our fight to change aged care here: https://www.changeagedcare.org/

17.01.2022 Our members working in allied health, mental health, community services and other critical health and social care workforces know the importance of affordable study to get them into the profession. If passed, the Job-Ready Graduates Package would see the costs of degrees in Allied Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, and degrees in related areas such as Behavioural Science, Social Science, Human Services, Youth Work and Community Welfare, in some instances, increas...e by more than 100 per cent! Now more than ever we need a highly skilled, readily available and stable workforce in these critical social and community services. Don’t deter them with debt. We thank Senator Stirling Griff Senator Jacqui Lambie Senator Rex Patrick for their efforts to date in opposing the legislation and working to make it subject to a Senate Inquiry. Keep up the fight!

17.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Earlier this year the Sex Discrimination Commissioner’s ‘Respect@work’ report foun...d that sexual harassment at work is rife and our current laws are failing to keep workers safe. The report made 55 powerful recommendations, but the Morrison Government hasn't acted on a single one. Last year the Government supported the adoption of the International Labour Organization's Violence and Harassment convention. The convention recognises every worker’s fundamental right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at work, including gender-based violence and harassment. However, the Government still hasn't ratified the convention. We are calling on the Morrison Government to immediately act and implement the 'Respect@work' recommendations and ratify the International Labour Organization's Violence and Harassment convention. All workplaces should be free of violence and harassment. Everyone deserves to be safe at work. #EndVAW #RatifyILOC190 #EndGBVatWork #16DaysofActivism

16.01.2022 A pay rise killer - the Morrison Government's IR Omnibus Bill will leave workers worse off and stifle wage increases. The HSU made a submission detailing our opposition to the Bill. We will continue to fight this at every opportunity. https://au.finance.yahoo.com//omnibus-ir-reform-explainer-

A message to all aged care workers from Federal Shadow Assistant Minister for Aged Care, Ged Kearney MP. Join the fight for change: https://www.changeagedcare.org/... #ThanksMeansChange

15.01.2022 Today is Go Home on Time Day! Whether you are working from home or at your workplace - make sure you clock off on time. 13.01.2022 If COVID gets into one of these homes it will spread like wildfire and these residents will die, a disability worker said. Disability and aged care staff and residents are in the highest priority group to receive a vaccine after bearing the worst of the second wave of the virus in Australia. But seven weeks after the national vaccine rollout began, staff are reporting they still do not know when they will receive their jab.... 12.01.2022 Today there's more reports about just how behind the Morrison Government's COVID-19 vaccine rollout truly is. People with disability living in residential settings were meant to be the first group in Australia to receive the vaccine, but fewer than 50 facilities have been visited by Commonwealth Government vaccination teams. It's time for the Morrison Government to be transparent about the pace of the vaccine rollout. People with disabilities, their families and the workers w...ho support them deserve nothing less. https://www.abc.net.au//disability-providers-wai/100061966

11.01.2022 A coordinated, clear and effective government response to the pandemic in aged care has been either completely absent or inadequate, we've known this all along, but now the Aged Care Royal Commission has confirmed this with its latest report. The special COVID-19 report includes recommendations to address the aged care crisis and we want to see the Federal Government rolling out these changes immediately. We hope that out of respect to our older Australians, their loved one...s and all aged care workers there will be no more delays and inaction. There is much more work to be done to change aged care. 09.01.2022 "The commission found the federal government's lack of consideration for people with a disability including the absence of a plan for testing availability as well as delivering PPE to people with a disability and support staff caused extreme stress and anxiety." The Morrison Government fails frontline workers, again. Read more about the findings here: https://www.smh.com.au//serious-failure-royal-commission-c

07.01.2022 Today we stand united to demand that the Government fix our broken aged care system, protect workers who have been at the front line of the fight against the virus and provide better quality care to older Australians.

07.01.2022 The work in health never stops - thank you to our ACT, NSW and SA members who are working this long weekend.

06.01.2022 Workers would be able to take up to five days leave a year for IVF, endometriosis, vasectomies or serious menstrual pain under the first claim for reproductive health leave in Australia. "We would encourage governments and employers right across the country to get behind this initiative for women working in female-dominated industries like the health and the community services sector," HSU National Secretary, Lloyd Williams said. "We're committed to pulling down any barrier t...hat prevents women from reaching their full potential in the workplace," Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) Assistant Secretary, Kate Marshall said. 06.01.2022 More than 2000 Australian aged care workers have been infected with coronavirus and HSU National Secretary Lloyd Williams said workers remained anxious about their safety, while many were also facing financial stress, prevented from working multiple jobs at different facilities. I think that post the pandemic, we are going to see a significant increase in post-traumatic stress disorder amongst workers, Mr Williams said. 04.01.2022 Do you know what a mental health hazard looks like at work? Just like physical hazards, such as slippery surfaces, workplaces can also contain mental health hazards, like high workloads. Workplaces need to manage and prevent mental health hazards the same way they do for physical hazards. Learn more about the hazards:... www.mindyourhead.org.au See more

04.01.2022 The Morrison Government is trying to convince you that scrapping one small part of the IR bill will fix the problem. But we know you're not fooled: this bill still contains many dangerous proposals that will hurt workers. The IR bill must be stopped.

02.01.2022 Are you a dental hygienist, oral health therapist or dental prosthetist? Good news!
