The translation into Russian is my own using Google Translate, but Kar Rays video has also been translated to several different languages (the narration not the introductory text). PROMISE is short for "Proactive Management of Integrated Services and Environments". In one of his videos he says that the I in PROMISE stood for inpatient but they changed it to integrated. It was supposed to be the start of a "global movement" against force and coercion but only lasted for two years before he declared it "finished" without achieving his objective.

The first, titled "Navigating Rocky Waters" has been translated to several languages and he promoted them on his FB page without receiving many views. There are only one or two likes. "The Lion Within" is an unimaginative anthropomorphism of a depressed lion with a supportive spouse who advises him to confide in his friends. The friends tell him that he has depression and advises him to take medication. He also says that "exercise and grooming helped" the lion recover. The film was made by "AXIS Three Dee", an animation company in his native Kolkata. The question is how much was he paid for writing, narrating and directing this drug-pushing and disease-creating propaganda? Also, how much money was raised for his empty PROMISE?

18.01.2022 This is one of Manaan Kar Rays Facebook sites. The banner reads "Knowledge Conquers Stigma". He says that "stigma is part of the illness". The truth is that the psychiatry creates the stigma that people accused of being "mentally ill" suffer. The injections Kar Ray promotes cause people to dribble and drool saliva. This makes them look insane and subject to accusations of "self-neglect" if their clothes are stained from the saliva falling from their mouth. They also cause ob...esity which is also stigmatising. Even worse, they cause permanent brain damage in the form of Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) a horribly stigmatising condition of involuntary grimacing movements of the face, involuntary protrusion of the tongue and writhing movements of the arms, hands and legs. TD is caused by long-term damage to neurones in the Basal Ganglia from sustained blockade of dopamine receptors and has been studied since the 1960s when it first appeared in people on the dopamine-blocking phenothiazines (like chlorpromazine) and butyrophenones (like haloperidol). It is hard to think of a more stigmatising condition than TD. People look like stereotypical images of mad people. The labels of schizophrenia (split mind) and personality disorder are also stigmatising as is accusations that people lack "lack insight and judgement". Together with the trauma of the boredom of the hospital environment, force and coercion by staff, a punitive culture, seclusion and restraint and indoctrination into the belief that they have incurable, progressive brain diseases (in the case of schizophrenia) are among the real causes of the high rate of suicide in people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Blocking dopamine receptors also causes depression and anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure) as well as flattened affect, which are routinely blamed on the "illness" rather than the treatment.

The event, supposedly a "mental health conference" was organised by the Richmond Fellowship that has been rebranded as "Recovered Futures Queensland" via Professor David Crompton a co-author of a paper with Kar Ray on another of his brainwaves. This is called "PROTECT", an acronym for "PROactive deTECTtion". Kar Ray has been marketing a range of his acronyms where PRO stands for "proactive", including PROMISE and PROTECT. He is still promoting PROTECT but has abandoned his PROMISE project.

There has been a lot to investigate - he has several websites as well as two Facebook pages (Treat Travelitis and Dr Manaan Kar Ray) which direct people to his medical site and photography sites. He travels a lot on expensive holidays with his family and has an expensive Nikon camera with good lenses. He uses this came...ra to take cliched photos which he publishes on the "opticalpercept.com" and "twilightbridge.com" sites. He has another domain called "FestiveFever.com" which is for sale at DomainMarket.com for US$ 39,888. His LinkedIn page (which gives his name as Mannan rather than Manaan and doesn't have a photo unlike his FB pages) boasts that he managed a budget of 65 million pounds when he worked for the NHS in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. The manaan.co.uk site informs patients that he charges 300 pounds for the first visit and 200 pounds for subsequent consultations. He boasts on his website that he "trained at Oxford and is working in Cambridge" and has Master's degrees in both psychiatry and psychology. PEN stands for 'Patient Experience Network' which is sponsored by the NHS (British National Health Service} and about 10 other organizations including Serco, which runs several private prisons as well as all the Australian immigration detention centres. Serco also has contracts for electronic tagging of offenders and refugees. They also boast about launching the "Cape Town Promise" in South A...frica in November 2016. Kar Ray claims that the South Africans got a "big boost" from their work being discussed in Cambridge. The Lion Within, a story about a depressed lion that is advised by his friends to take medication, targeted children in South Africa aged about 12 years, and was written by Manaan Kar Ray and Sarah Rae, a psychiatric patient who approached Kar Ray in 2014 or 2015 to ask what the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Hospital Trust (CPFT) was doing to reduce force and coercion after a MIND report drew attention to the problem. When I investigated this institute I found a report in he Pune Mirror from 2018 that it had been reported to Indian police for selling fake degrees. Kar Ray claims that he earned this degree in 2001 before going to "Oxford" for his psychiatry training. Again he is being loose with the truth. He was employed not by the famous university but the Warneford mental hospital which used to be the Oxford Lunatic Asylum. It is located in Oxfordshire but it is misleading to claim that he qualified "in Oxford". Manaan Kar Rays LinkedIn profile spells his first name "Mannan" and does not have a profile photo. It says he graduated in medicine and surgery at the University of Calcutta in 1998 but does not mention where he got his fake psychology degree. It also does not mention "Promise Global" a project he co-founded in 2015 with the support of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) where he was the Director of Adult Psychiatry for many years. It is titled "An Informal Chat with Dr Kar Ray" and is a heavily edited self-serving monologue in which he boasts about his education saying that the Catholic school he attended in India was "fairly strict but that is where the steel was tempered". He says that the Calcutta University's medical school is a "premier educational institution" and the first university in Asia to teach Western principl...es of medicine. He omits (or has edited out) the fact that his "master's degree" in psychotherapy is a bogus degree obtained cheap from the farcical 'Institute for Behavioural and Management Sciences' (IBMS) in Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh). This 'institute' offers Master of Science (MS) degrees and PhDs by distance education based on work people do at home. Kar Ray refers to this MS qualification on his LinkedIn profile but doesn't say where he obtained it. His personal website (from 2014) claims as a publication a thesis he wrote on "Brief Interventions in Tobacco Dependence Syndrome" supervised by Professor Victor Padmakar. 01.01.2022 The PROMISE Project was heralded as the beginning of a "global movement" led by Manaan Kar Ray and Sarah Rae. It announced a "founding five" including Cambridge, Yale, Brisbane, Prague and Cape Town. The Cape Town Promise was to be signed in November 2016 at the World Congress on Mental Health but the project was abandoned. The founding institutions included CPFT (that employed Kar Ray and treated Sarah Rae), Yale (where Kar Ray did a short management course), Brisbane (where... he has moved), Prague and South Africa. Showing his colonial mentality he claimed that mental health workers in Cape Town got a big boost by hearing that their work was being discussed in Cambridge "on the other side of the world". He also claimed that they are creating a "global knowledge network" for reform in mental health care and that the situation regarding the use of force and restraint was better in Britain than in continental Europe. The clip "Introducing the PROMISE Charter" has the "badges" of these "founding institutions" - CPFT, Cambridge University, Yale University, Metro South Health (in Brisbane), Anglia Ruskin University, University of Cape Town, the Centre for Mental Health Care Development (in Prague) and the American NIMH (National Institutes of Mental Health). A key question for investigators is the financial arrangements. Did Kar Ray and his 'PROMISE Project" receive money? If so, how much, by whom and how was it spent? The PROMISE Charter was introduced in a presentation by Aidan Thomas, the CEO of CPFT who was given the position of "Executive Sponsor of Promise Global". His talk has had only 41 views in 4 years on YouTube. Thomas says that the PROMISE Global "vision" is to "promote dignity by eliminating force in mental health". Their "mission" is to "create a global knowledge network for proactive practice" and their "values" are "care, courage and coproduction". Aidan Thomas says that he wants Promise Global to "grow and become a big movement". They boasted that their knowledge network included institutions and individuals in Poland, Malta, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, India, Singapore and the USA. It was allied with the notorious World Psychiatric Association (WPA) that was once headed by the Canadian brainwashing expert Ewan Cameron (see his Wikipedia entry).
