24.01.2022 Most organisations during COVID-19 are focused on keeping the doors open and addressing productivity issues, and not cyber security - which we get! But #cybercriminals know this and have subsequently used this to increase the attacks. So we need to be more cyber aware, yes its just another thing to worry about in these challenging times but its vital in this digital era we live in.... #securityawareness #layer8security #cyberattacks

24.01.2022 The latest #phishingattack circulating the internet at the moment is around #Dropbox and #GoogleDocs. It does look very legitimate and it's using Google to mimic Microsoft Office 365 and DropBox. Basically, it's an attempt to harvest Microsoft logins using a google docs document. What you will see is: an email saying you have a dropbox document but when you click on the link (please don't) it will route you to googledocs which has a document to download to ultimately steal... your information. Never click on Links in emails. Always check the email links Always set up Multi Factor Authentication to protect your details What makes this attack so clever is that organisations cannot block drop box or google or they risk hampering their own business productivity. If you see anything similar, make sure you do not enter your credentials and if you are not expecting any documents from people or businesses, always check before you click! In particular, check the sender and if you do not know them be very suspicious. If you do know them but were not expecting the document, contact them direct by other means such as giving them a call. We are here, if you need assistance https://layer8security.com.au/ #cybersecurityawareness #layer8security #becyberaware

24.01.2022 Mobile Phones are a part of our identity now - we can't live without them. We do banking, social media, messages, emails, calls, gaming, reading and the list goes on ... They are just so convenient. But are they safe? That's today's topic on #CyberChat with Jesse Dehaan and Liz Buchanan- cyber security of mobile phones! How safe are they? If you want us to cover a particular topic, comment below. Also message us if you would like more information on Layer 8 Security's Cyber S...ecurity Training. #cybersecurity #Becybersmart #becyberaware #cybersecurityawareness #cybersecuritytraining #Layer8Security

23.01.2022 Contrary to common opinion, psychologists tell us that people do not make observations and then draw conclusions, rather, they select theories that are consistent with their personal values, attitudes, and prejudices (often hidden from consciousness) and then go out into the world to make observations to validate their theories. Observations not consistent with a pre-existing belief are discarded while confirmatory ones are clung to tightly. This is why staff dont always beh...ave in the manner that is conductance to proper security awareness behaviour whilst at work. 22.01.2022 What information are you sharing without knowing? 1. What does your car say about you? 2. Are you sharing information you didnt intend to share?... 3. Have you considered all the sensitive information you might be sharing while you are out and about? 4. Is your home secure when you are not around? 5. Do you have a smart home? 6. If you have a smart home, do you have a long strong complex password that cannot be hacked easily? 7. Do you have security cameras? 8. Are any doors/locks controlled via a Wi-Fi connection? 9. Do you give hints to your passwords away in any of the information shown in the picture to the right? Think about your answers to the above questions, if you have answered yes to any of them from 5-9 then you may be at risk from not only a cyber criminal but also a physical criminal. As Human Beings we like to share our achievements but there are certain times we can potentially overshare and place our family and friends at risk. For more information like this please message us.

21.01.2022 Cyber Attacks are being more and more common. It's important to remember, it's not just an IT issue! Technology, people and process are the three core components necessary to address the increasing amount of risk associated with physical and cyber security. Technology and processes can usually stop around 95% of the threats. That still leaves 5% of attacks coming into your organisation through your people. People are responsible for more security breaches than the other two c...ombined. More than 50% of all breaches are because of human error or other insider threats. How have you dealt with the 'human' issue within your organisation? #cybersecurity #humanfirewall #becyberaware #layer8security

21.01.2022 Cyber Security is an important element in business - we need to take it more seriously and plan for our future when we really are in the digital era! #Cybersecurity is not just a IT issue, it's a human issue and all businesses need to prepare their staff.

21.01.2022 Lest We Forget! In Flanders fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow... Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae (18721918)

21.01.2022 Always be aware when you are online - Stop - Think - Act From Scamwatch Look out for scammers claiming there is an issue with your internet account and payment details. The emails may look legitimate with the company’s real logos but contain extra letters in the email address or typos. Don’t click on any links and delete the email.

20.01.2022 It’s important to use strong passwords (or pass-phrases) on your social media and have a different one for each platform! As well as change them on a regular basis.

19.01.2022 Technology alone isnt the answer to addressing security within the organisation. Technology, people and process are the three components necessary to address the increasing amount of risk associated with physical and cyber security. Ironically, the area that is responsible for more security breaches than the other two is people. More than 50% of all breaches are because of human error or other insider threats.... If you want to change behaviour and measure that change, then contact us to find out how we can help. Contact us to create awareness, change behaviour and measure the change! Its definitely time to take cyber security seriously. #CyberSecuritytip #cybersecuritytraining #cybersecuritytips #cybersecurityawareness

We talk about the importance of #encrypting emails to safeguard our information, and why we should do it every time we send private information - whether that be personal or business related! 13.01.2022 Here are some key ways to protect yourself online: Never give your password, PIN, bank details or Tax File Number to anyone online or over the phone. Generally, no legitimate company will ask for those details online. Review your security and privacy details on social media and be careful with who you connect with.... Choose strong passwords and/or use a password authenticator app or a password keeper. Check for clues on the authenticity of an email. Beware of unusual methods of payment. A lot of scammers like to work outside traditional financial systems and processes. Dont agree to deals straight away. Tell the person who calls that youre not interested or that you want to get independent advice before deciding. Then you can do more research to verify an offer. Check in with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, - they have a terrific website (scamwatch.gov.au) listing all the rorts they have come across. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The most powerful filter you have against scams is your gut feel. These offers are probably best avoided or, at least, need detailed verification.

13.01.2022 To our Dads and to your Dads, we wish you all a very Happy Father's Day! #happyfathersday #fathersday2020 #fathersday

13.01.2022 More and more people are receiving mobile phishing attacks, for instance this message that came to a colleague this week (who is not an NAB customer and all banks have been used in these attacks not just this bank). If people were not paying attention they could easily click the link. We need to be aware and remember STOP - THINK - ACT! Never just click! A mobile user is 18 times more likely to be exposed to a phishing attempt than to malware, according to a new report on tec...hniques and technologies that try to get a user to be an accomplice in their own victimization. For better ways to protect your organisation and better ways to address your mobile requirements, contact us here at Layer 8 Security

12.01.2022 #securityawareness is essential for #workingfromhome staff during this pandemic and all the time. Don't get caught by scammers, we need to pay attention when online. #layer8security #dontfallforhackers

12.01.2022 With 75% of all security breaches being a result of humans, we need to address human behaviour to reduce this risk. Many people believe that running a security awareness training course will mitigate this risk. Unfortunately, security awareness training and simulated phishing, whether it is run once a year to tick a compliance box or run continuously throughout the year only addresses one small section of the problem. We need to look at how people behave and how they respond ...to certain circumstances, stimuli, and situations. Knowledge/awareness alone wont change an organisations risk profile. Just because someone has knowledge doesnt mean that they will do the right thing. What motivates people to act in certain ways? What is their perspective on security as it relates to their personal lives? If their attitude is wrong, or the corporate culture is bad then their behaviour will be in conflict with their knowledge. A change in behaviour is the only tangible way to address this component of security risk.

07.01.2022 It seems another copy and paste of a database on the dark web is doing the rounds, and then exploiting common vulnerabilities within certain platforms. Its important to keep all software and patch levels up to date as it will mitigate the risk by 95%. At this time, what is likely in the attack is, they access the database with a list of names, emails and organisations. The main vector utilised in this breach is Spear Phishing emails, so be aware of what you are receiving an...d clicking on! The person who is exploiting these vulnerabilities has been identified and is currently being located, so this threat should likely fade very quickly. In the meantime please follow the below steps: Avoid clicking ANY links. Do NOT download any files, especially from emails. 01.01.2022 The problem with social media is that people have an inherent trust of the platforms and that is what is being tapped into by #cybercriminals. People still believe that you have to click on something and download a file to be infected. This really isnt the case anymore. There are things like drive-by-downloads, infected adverts and things like that. Its very easy to be compromised on your machines. In many cases the initial malware is just a gateway into the system.
