24.01.2022 PELVIC GIRDLE PAIN Also known as pelvic instability is a generic term to describe pain experienced anywhere in the pelvic region- front, back or sides of the pelvis One in four pregnant women suffer from PGP at some stage of their pregnancy and 7% of women continue to suffer with PGP after their baby is born... During pregnancy your body will undergo many changes in a relatively short period of time. In order to adapt to changes in size and weight, your body releases a hormone called relaxin. This allows the ligaments throughout your body to soften and stretch, helping your posture to adapt to your growing baby and change your centre of gravity When the ligaments of your pelvis become more relaxed and soften, your muscles are required to work extra hard to maintain good support for the pelvic joints. In turn this can cause strain to your pelvic ligaments, joints and muscles Often pain is worse with: - walking - getting in and out of car - sitting - getting dressed - rolling over in bed WHAT TO DO?? place a pillow vetween your legs while sleeping Keep your legs together when getting in and out of car Focus on maintaining good posture As osteopaths we look at the body as a whole and aim to identify the cause of PGP OSTEOPATHS can use a variety of gentle techniques to improve overall balance and alignment, relieving stress on ligaments and muscles and advising strengthening exercises to assist in the treatment Have you experienced pelvic girdle pain? What did you do to help relieve your pain?

22.01.2022 Women's Health Week is a great reminder to take time out to check in on your health and to keep making positive changes that can last a life time In light of WHW, we want to discuss all things PELVIC FLOOR~ The pelvic floor is a term used to reference the group of muscles at the base of the pelvis. This group of muscles span from the pubic bone in front to the tail bone and sacrum in back. ... These muscles sling around the openings in the pelvis and act as a support of the pelvic organs including the bladder, uterus and rectum. They help control urine flow and keep us from leaking urine/feces. The pelvic floor can either be underactive or overactive~ The underactive pelvic floor~ may lead to urinary or fecal incontinence due to inability to generate enough strength to overcome the pressures in the abdomen and pelvis during activities such as coughing, laughing or jumping. This can lead to pelvic organ prolapse where the position of the bladder, uterus or rectum can descend due to lack of support. The over-active pelvic floor~ The muscle tightens up in response to trauma or over-activity and causes pain. Pelvic floor spasm can cause pelvic pain, vaginal pain, painful intercourse, over active bladder, constipation, pain with sitting and tailbone pain. If you are experiencing these symptoms it is important to see your health professional. Make your appointment today! Your health comes first

04.01.2022 Osteopathy is a form of health care that utilises a variety of hands on techniques to diagnose and treat structural dysfunctions in the body. As osteopaths the emphasis of our treatment is on the WHOLE person and not solely on their symptoms. We treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and fascia to support the body's self healing mechanism

03.01.2022 I love that through osteopathy, I can help a wide range of people, but I have a special interest in sports injuries. Since playing cricket and netball and a wide range of others from a young age, and my own experience with sporting injuries, I've always been passionate in treating sports people. This lead to me working as a sports trainer for the VFL, local football clubs, NRL, and state volleyball. Dr Madeleine McLeod An ankle sprain is a very common sporting injury, eithe...r occurring during sport or during everyday life. The ankle is made up of a number of bones, the tibia and fibula in the lower leg and then the talus (a foot bone that sits above your heel). It is supported either side of the ankle by several ligaments connecting bone to bone. A sprain is an overstretching of the stabilising ligaments either on the outside or inside of your ankle, and your ankle may swell up and bruise, as well as be painful to walk on. As osteopaths, we can examine your ankle to see the extent of the sprain, and then provide education and support while it heals. We may advise use of ice and compression while it is initially swollen, and then assess the lower limb to see if there may be any compensations or if there are any biomechanical factors that may have contributed towards the sprain. Treatment may involve mobilisations, massage or taping the ankle to support the injured ankle. Your osteopath may also prescribe rehabilitation advice to return to regular movements and sport, and to prevent recurrence.
