21.01.2022 Must be 2 years ago I said to Sydney’s top Council that during the Xmas holidays, people do a clean out & do I could place 20+ Clothing Bins city-wide to captur...e & divert from landfill & from charity dumping - well that was the year the Marie Kondo launched big time but they had said no that year & all others since Yes it will cost more than sending to landfill, but our Disability Enterprise team are paid Australian wages to sort & dismantle plus real world costs. Our clever Circular Textile Waste Service keeps 100% onshore. Repurposes 100% to grow circular economy industries so eventually the costs come down via rebates when the market starts to purchase the new products like carpet, acoustic panels, wool blankets, packaging, furniture - we already have 15 circular waste streams and more to come. Any Council, company or community wanting to learn more can fill in our Assessment online for a quote. I’m sure your residents, customers, neighbours and generations to come will love you for it And what is the cost to the environment, animals and humans when it causes carbon & methane emissions and plastic pollution for 200+ years, making its way to the oceans, souls and our water and food supply. REPOST by the wonderful @eco.styles Are op shops the new waste management centres?? This was the front of Vinnies, Hobart on December 29th. This 3-day build up weighed about 7 tonnes, roughly a quarter of Vinnie's normal monthly total. An additional truck had to help clean up, with much of the viable donations contaminated by rotting fruit and vegetables, lawn clippings and wet clothing. Today I went into @communitycheststhmelb op shop in South Melbourne. They had been receiving bags of clothing mixed with useless random things and dirty diapers! It's so NOT cool for people to dump stuff like this! Op shops have had to redirect funding from charitable causes into transporting our trash to the tip. Op shops have opening hours and guidelines of what donations are useful. We can do better. #LessIsNow #LessIsMore #Degrowth #SupportOpShops oP.shopping #OpShoppingAustralia #VinniesHobart #Vinnies from @abchobart / @vinniesshops

19.01.2022 Compared to most large charity shops who discard about 75% of the clothes donated to them, Hunt 4 Hope is proud to announce our waste percentage is down to 10%!! We do this by REDONATING our good clothes and linen to The Clothing Cleanup, have regular $1 sales for the more fast fashion items, REPAIR what we can, WASH what we can, REDESIGN what we can and REUSE where we can. This article on fabric composting may just be our next step. https://www.1millionwomen.com.au/blog/how-compost-fabrics/

18.01.2022 Winter is here! And its all about the jacket xx

17.01.2022 Food for thought... https://www.theguardian.com//holy-grail-how-textile-recycl

17.01.2022 Thank you National Geographic for these valuable infographics on what items CAN'T be recycled. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that this is simply a guide and you must alwa...ys check with your local recycling depot. This is also an old post, so some things may have changed or been improved upon. So always ask and check. But keep trying your best to recycle or even better, find eco-friendly alternative to avoid even having to recycle! Have a super day everyone!! 15.01.2022 A wonderful way to help the environment.

14.01.2022 Lets stop thinking of clothes at end of life as waste. Lets start thinking of clothes at end of life as resource. Happy op shopping xx https://www.facebook.com/ABCTV/videos/184199869298436/

14.01.2022 An interesting video from the BBC talks about the effect that consumption has on not only the planet but also our mentality. Are you ready to let go of your old... stuff? 14.01.2022 Researchers have found that consumers in the US and UK have halved the amount of single-use plastic they are consuming in the last year! Forty-two percent of p...eople consider sustainable materials to be important when making day-to-day purchases and tend to trust brands more if they make statements about sustainability. Motivations cited include concern for the future of the environment and wanting to reduce ones personal waste footprint. See more

13.01.2022 A very Merry Christmas and a joyful new year from all the Hunt 4 Hope team! We will be taking a well deserved break between Dec 25 until Jan 11, 2021. Hope to see you for a fresh start next year xxxx

13.01.2022 NOTHING NEW by Robyn Annear ($29.99 -Hardcover) This was a super interesting read as it charts the attitudes to, and use of, all things secondhand. I like the f...act it is written by an Australian and so has more of an Aussie focus but Robyn Annear takes us all over the world and through history to look at how waste, reuse, recycling, and new have changed over time. There are interesting, sometimes scary, facts about what our consumption is doing to the planet, however what intrigued me most was the shifts in attitudes through society toward old and new, the influence of advertising on consumption and the pervasiveness of our driving need for new, new, new. If you have an interest in zero waste, recycling, reuse, op-shops or how people managed in the past I am sure you will find Nothing New a great read! -Sasha- #zerowaste #recycling #history #reuse #secondhand #nothingnew #greatreads #zerop #
