15.01.2022 Here is a radiograph of an almost two year old horse. It is that time of year when people get excited about getting their two year olds to a trainer to get star...ted under saddle. Here is a perfect example of why not to be in such a hurry. This horse will be two in May and when we sent these radiographs of his knees/carpus to a specialist at a university. We were told this horse should not be started in a training program for another 10-12 months because his growth plates in his knees were not closed enough. Starting a horse that is not physically mature enough can have long term effects like osteoarthritis and chronic lameness issues. If you have any doubt, you can always have radiographs done to see if the growth plates are closed enough for the work required by a training program. See more

10.01.2022 Sonia McDonald Mark who is the sole operator of Hunter Health Care, has been barefoot trimming our horses now for about twelve months. In that time the horses' movement and freedom of shoulders have improved incredibly. The article below highlights how World Champions are now embracing barefoot trimming. Mark worked with Celerity Park Freya, a very talented 6 y.o mare, who was having soundness issues after so the effects of not great shoeing over the past 3 years. After rem...oving the shoes, Mark left the mare to run in the laneway for 6 weeks. After this period he began his miraculous work, which after 3 trims, Freya is a new horse, confident, relaxed, sound, landing consistently heal first. The frog is healthy, increased in size, nice, big healthy heel bulbs, no contraction, and the movement in to die for. Freya when she was only 3 y.o came second in the SIEC Young Horse Championships, only being narrowly beaten by an import. Now she has happy feet, she will be a force to be reckoned with...a huge thank you to Mark for all his hard work at our stud.
