25.01.2022 What an honour to have Tony Jones exhibiting in our new group exhibition ‘Between the Eye and The Heart’. With a career spanning over 50 years, a recipient of the 2008 Citizen of the Year WA (Arts) award and in 2009 OAM Order of Australia Medal Tony Jones is a distinguished West Australian sculptor and teacher to many. His work spans across a wide range of mediums and ideas. His public artworks can be seen throughout the state, including ‘Eliza’ on the Swan River and the C....Y. O’Connor statue (created with his son Ben Jones) at Coogee. Tony says of the work he has created for this exhibition. I have enjoyed responding to brief. To limit the work to colour and form. To have no narrative or reference to figuration. In the many images of the field exhibition one work stuck with me and obliquely inspired this group of 5 works We are open this long weekend and the exhibition runs to the 21st November. #tonyjonesartist #perthart #perthartist #perthartscene #dwellingup #visitdwellingup #visitpeel #perthartcollectors #artcollectors #sculpture #hardedgeabstraction #colourfield #visitwesternaustralia See more

20.01.2022 "1250 Optus Stadiums are knocked down and bowled over every year in WA!" Western Australia has the second-highest rate of primary deforestation in the count...ry and the native forest timber industry is operating at a financial loss to the state. These south west forests are now worth more standing thanks to the hard work of hundreds of beekeepers like Mikey Cernotta and forest-based tourism, which already supports thousands of local jobs in WA. Native forests help make rain and protecting them from logging is also an important climate solution that has the potential to prevent 40-60 million tonnes of CO2 from being emitted over 10-years. The WA Forest Alliance Forests for Life Plan will create more than 3000 jobs and includes establishing a World Class Timber industry through Farm Forestry and Landcare, growing 40,000 hectares of high value, fast-growing trees for saw logs within existing farming land. Email your local MP and the WA Premier and let them know you support the Forests For Life plan: https://www.cleanstate.org.au/email-mark Follow WA Forest Alliance Pemberton Honey BICWA and get involved. #ForestsForLife #StopTheChop

17.01.2022 Another Fabulous Artist in our current exhibition is multi talented Jon Tarry. Jon creates art as a way of testing ideas about the prosaic, political and poetic, in the form of sculpture, drawing, film and sound. His work explores art and architectural conditions as a comparative investigation of spatial intelligence. The process of creating his works informs a new understanding of the medium and the subject he is examining. For Tarry, the act of generating his art is just as significant as the work itself. You can find out more about Jon @artcollectivewa . @jontarry #scupture #sculptor #sculpturalform #perthartist #publicartist

14.01.2022 This weekend Thomas de Munk-Kerkmeer will be in the in the gallery and it would be a great time to come down and meet this colourful artist! The 4 works displayed here are part of the ongoing Broad Band series. These pieces are created with contemporary waste materials from WA building sites, aiming to transform the refuse of humanity into colourful artworks to uplift the spirit of the spectator. One of the sources of inspiration is the work of the early modernist group de Stijl. The work changes when seen from different sides and is a playful comment on the rapid rise of IT. Last chance to see this amazing exhibition of some of Perth’s most respected artists! @munkkerkmeer

08.01.2022 Featured today is the incredible work of Charmaine Ball . Charmaine’s practice responds to structural elements encountered in the built environment. Architecture and materials forms, angles, shadows provide impetus for response. Spanning sculpture and painting, her work is characterised by an exploration of line, shape and colour. Formal geometric composition is paired with an organic approach that imbues a liveliness to abstract pieces. Ball's acrylic paintings on canv...as and board use methodical geometric planning to investigate pattern and intersections of colour. Referencing traditions of Constructivism and Hard Edged Painting, the flat application of sharply-defined sections of colour calls attention to the picture plane. The resulting works exist as a sensitive exploration of colour and tonal nuance. Working with white stoneware clay, Ball’s sculptures examine the spatial configuration, weight and tactility of matter. Hand-built sculptures are bisque fired and left chalkily unglazed. Through the manipulation of material the works arrive at an interplay of weight and weightlessness; light and shadow; positive and negative space. Gesturing to the function of architectural form, the objects are also distinguished by a haunting quality. Exhibition on till 21st November Wednesday and Friday’s 11-2 and Saturday and Sunday 10-4pm #perthartist #dwellingup #visitdwellingup #hardedgeabstraction #contemporaryartist #perthartscene #westernaustralianartist #abstract #perthartcollectors See more

08.01.2022 This article highlights the ineffectiveness of the Federal government’s EPBC Act. This is the act that would protect endangered animals and plants in the Dwelli...ngup Discovery Forest. Alcoa proposes to clear 8700 hectares in their Huntly mine expansion, yet they only require approval for 845 hectares under the EPBC Act. Why? Because the Act can not be applied retrospectively. Existing operations at Huntly mine are exempt. Only the increase in mining rate and production related to the Pinjarra refinery requires approval because that is the only new change since the EPBC Act came into force in 2000. Question - how can the effect of 845 hectares of forest clearing sitting within a 8700 hectare footprint, be assessed in isolation? If you’d like to know, send an email to the EPA asking how the assessment will be determined for a subset of clearing: [email protected] Re: Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Revised Proposal Example text: I understand that the EPA will be assessing the Alcoa Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Revised Proposal on behalf of the DAWE under the bilateral agreement for matters of national interest. How will the assessment and the Minister for Environment’s determination be arrived at, when only a small subset of the total clearing requires approval? Namely 845 hectares of the overall clearing of 8700 hectares. Will the total clearing be considered at all, when determining the loss of habitat for endangered animals and birds? https://www.abc.net.au//environment-protection-l/12574398

05.01.2022 BREAKING: Great news! Cry of the Forests has been selected from a huge field to screen at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival in the US in February. The st...ory of the plight of WA's unique forests and the wasteful destruction of these critically important places is being broadcast around the world. It's an amazing honour to have the film recognised amongst so many other stories and environmental issues. But it shows just how bad the management of our precious forests is and how critically important they are. Native forest logging is a state, national and international shame. The world is watching Mark McGowan Please take note! See more
