24.01.2022 Thanks to Phil D for his thoughts on racing from a C-Grader's perspective: https://hmba.asn.au//16/hmba-xc-race-report-round-5-16-11/ AusCycling - New South Wales Lake Macquarie City Council

24.01.2022 Whilst we are all for supporting your Local Bike Store (LBS) we know that in these modern times people will turn to the internet to source bits and pieces that might be hard to source locally at the time when you need them. If you choose to take this route then supporting an Australian company makes sense - especially one that also supports Australian Mountain Bike clubs! HMBA have signed up with the MTB Direct "Dollars for Dirt" program meaning that when you buy something... through them online you can nominate HMBA as your preferred club and a portion of your sale will come back to us to be reinvested in the trail network out at the Awaba Mountain Bike Park. Happy days

24.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Trail Sponsor - Rocky Trail Entertainment You may remember that a few months ago we put out the call for businesses interested in sponsoring sections of the trails at the Park - well over the past weeks we have been installing some new trail signage to acknowledge those businesses that stepped forward - their sponsorship contribution will be put straight back into maintaining and improving the world-class trails and facilities that we all enjoy. After... you've busted your lungs tackling "Camelback Climb" and enjoyed the rough and tumble downhill section ("Markdown") on your Awaba Loop you will scoot past the merge point for the "Little Falcon" jump line and find yourself facing the next sponsor sign belonging to good friends of HMBA, Rocky Trail Entertainment. Martin, Juliana and their band of enthusiastic helpers run some of the most enjoyable races you could ever enter, including their ever popular Fox Superflow gravity-based events and the Shimano MTB GP's - the second best Cross Country race series in Australia (after our HMBA Club series, of course!). They are also resposible for several renowned marathon-style events, including the JetBlack 24Hour, and their Women's Only series - Diamonds in the Dirt. Please head on over to their website and check things out - unfortunately they have been doing things a bit tough due to Covid-19 causing the postponement or cancellation of some events - you can find out about where things are up to for the RTE team at their informative Blog: https://rockytrailentertainment.com/ https://rockytrailentertainment.com/blog/ #MTB #mountainbiking #foxsuperflow #shimano #gravityenduro #rockytrail #rockytrailentertainment Mountain Bike Australia - MTBA

23.01.2022 Don't forget you will need to register online for racing this Sunday - we are unable to accept entries on the day. And if you were planning on heading out to the park on Sunday please be aware that the XC track and Faulk Line will be closed to the public until about 11.30am. The weather forecast looks great and we are excited to get racing back underway again - things are looking good for Downhill in October too. ... https://my.raceresult.com/155936/

22.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Trail Sponsor - Riders Hut Derby You may remember that a few months ago we put out the call for businesses interested in sponsoring sections of the trails at the Park - well over the past weeks we have been installing some new trail signage to acknowledge those businesses that stepped forward - their sponsorship contribution will be put straight back into maintaining and improving the world-class trails and facilities that we all enjoy. As you continu...e around the Awaba / Watagan Loop the next sponsor sign you will encounter belongs to good friends of the club John and Meighan Phillipa. Aside from being responsible for the bridge work on Faulk Line and the Development Trail, they also own and operate Riders Hut Derby, a cosy 2 bedroom cottage with magnificent views of Derby, just 2 minutes ride from town centre and only 3 minutes ride to the World Class Blue Derby Trail head. Now it may seem a bit cruel to promote a Tasmanian destination right at this time but the world will open up again soon and when it does you will want to head here for the second-best mountain biking in the country - visit their Facebook Page Riders Hut Derby or click the following link to make a booking: https://www.bridportholidays.com.au//405023658-riders-hut/ #MTB #mountainbiking #derby #bluederby #tasmania Mountain Bike Australia - MTBA

21.01.2022 Chalk up another successful build day in the books - 20 eager souls turning up in the crisp morning air to put some more finishing work into the new trail for the park. A bit of a hidden gem at the moment but we are inching closer to having it done - the terrain means we can't get machines in there to do the work so hand-built it must be - and when you see the bridgework you will appreciate the time it is taking to get this trail finished. Some pics below and hopefully a short video to go up soon - thanks everyone

21.01.2022 Just a reminder that we will be following the Covid-19 rules for the build day this weekend - this specifically means that if you come from a recognised hotspot (i.e Greater Sydney) or have visited one of these areas in the past 14 days we request that you don't attend (I think we all know what that means by now ). But there is plenty of rooms for locals to come along and pitch in on the latest trail in the park - when this is finished we will have a new 6-7km loop including the best flow trail we have ever made! Please click on the below Event and let us know if you are coming (or "Going" )!

19.01.2022 The Gravity Gang had some fun today too - Faulk Line shuttles in the afternoon made for smiles all round

19.01.2022 Only 3 left now - a Large Short Sleeve and a 2XL in both Short and Long Sleeve - can we sell them by the weekend?

18.01.2022 Perfect weather welcomed us yesterday, finally, which made for a perfect day of riding. With our Full Downhill track out of action, Closed and the previous weather events holding up the completion of our new fly over we opted for something different - Half Track Shuttles & Timing. - Morning session Downhill Bottom half starting at Halfways Down - Afternoon session we move the start gate to Faulk Line. https://hmba.asn.au//hmba-downhill-half-track-faulk-line-/... AusCycling - New South Wales Lake Macquarie City Council

18.01.2022 So our man on the ground (our XC coordinator) has had a change of thinking now that the rain has arrived at the Park there is no wind and it looks like the moisture is going to hang around a bit heavier and longer than when he arrived to set the track at 5 a.m. So yes another disappointment for 2020 we are going to postpone the race today we have a committee meeting tomorrow night and we'll discuss arrangements for rescheduling - if we have enough people available we m...ay try to run it as soon as next Sunday but will let you know as soon as possible. At this stage it is likely that entry fees will transfer across onto the new event although we will let you know the arrangements if you require a refund. Everyone on the Committee is gutted to have to make this decision but it is best for people, bikes and trails to avoid riding in these conditions and save the fun for a better day

17.01.2022 We still have some Trail Jerseys left in both short and long sleeve - get them in our shop! https://hmba.asn.au/shop/

17.01.2022 If you left a good helmet and some other bits at the Awaba Mountain Bike Park in the main carpark today please send us a message on Facebook and we will put you in touch with the guy that found them

16.01.2022 It's going to be lovely day for scraping in new trail tomorrow - maybe a little fresh first up but warming up nicely. Don't forget that we will be operating under Covid guidelines - please don't attend if you have been to a hotspot recently or have Covid symptoms - bring your own tools if you have them - metal rakes / McLeods work best. Be there by 7.30am as we need to head up into the hills for this one

15.01.2022 You can stop holding your breath - results from last week's XC Race are now ready! It took some fettling to get all of the systems to talk to each other - a corrupted software update was to blame - there are still a couple of names missing so if you can send an email to our President with your plate number he will sort these out - [email protected] https://my.raceresult.com/155936/results?lang=en#0_5B2D98

14.01.2022 Santa is bringing HMBA a new trail for Christmas but he needs to drop it off a bit early - on Sunday 6th December in fact. Yes, we are finally able to deliver the official opening of our newest trail in the Awaba Mountain Bike Park, and to celebrate we have tied it in with our next XC and DH Race Round. We will put up the official Event Post soon with the links you need for Online Entries, but for now here are the important details: - XC and DH Races (Yes, the DH track will ...be fully open) will run as normal - Kids Ride from 8.30am, XC Race from 9.00am, DH shuttles from about 9.30am - Entry Fee for all XC and DH Racers will be a value-packed $15 for the day (see below). Kids Ride is free as always. - Official Opening of the new trail will be at 11.30am - hang around after XC Racing to be involved - we will have represtatives from the Government, Local Council and Aboriginal groups in attendance. - If your bike has a HMBA Race Plate on it from that day then you will be able to ride on one of the 2 Shuttle Buses we have running all day until 3pm-ish - this will help you to get a few runs on the new trail buried deep in the mountain - NO PRIVATE SHUTTLES on 6/12/20 So, where exactly is this new trail and what is it called? Well I guess you are just going to have to be there on the day to find out. One thing the committee knows for certain is that you are going to love it

13.01.2022 So we need some happy news - how about we have another go at racing! Sunday 20th September is our next scheduled round and we feel pretty confident that as long as the weather holds out we can run another race under our Covid Safe Plan - well at least the XC side of things - we still need to work out some details about whether we can safely run the shuttle buses for DH and this may largely be dependent on any updated rules or recommendations that are applicable ...at that time. We will put up an official Event Post this weekend - it will be online entries only and at this stage it will be restricted to Hunter residents - unfortunately if you come from the Greater Sydney region we will need to ask you to sit this one out based on the latest recommendations for community sport - sorry Specific plan details/rules will be detailed on the Event Page.

12.01.2022 Trail Jersey Update - only 5 left! These have proved super popular and the extra jerseys we ordered are slowly dwindling down - don't leave it too late if you want one as it will be some time before we do another run of these - see the attached image for what stock is left, and click on this link to go to the shop and grab one: hmba.asn.au/shop

12.01.2022 Whilst we generally try to put out positive news, sometimes there is just s*** stuff that happens sometime over the weekend our Downhill Container was broken into again and some valuable and vital equipment has been stolen including our large "wacker packer" We have been in contact with Lake Macquarie Police and provided them with our surveillance video footage to help assist them with their enquiries - hopefully they are able to identify the thieves and reclaim our equipment however we can only remain optimistic about this happening. If anyone has any information that may be of use we would appreciate it - any details of suspicious persons or vehicles in the area would be great - message via Facebook or email [email protected]

12.01.2022 Sorry for not putting this up sooner at the Committee Meeting on Monday night the decision was made to cancel last weekend's racing following the washout and proceed with the next scheduled round on Sunday 18/10/20. Entry fees paid will be credited to this next round - further details on how to register for this next race will be put up in the coming weeks if you specifically require a refund then please email [email protected]

10.01.2022 Online Registration for tomorrow's race closes at 4pm today. Sorry, but No registrations on the day as per our Covid Safe Plan. Conditions will be primo - a little rain in the last day will make the trail surface ideal.... Remember the XC and Faulk Line trails will be closed on Sunday until 11.30am.

09.01.2022 Congrats Ride Dungog on hitting your target! Great work you are all doing up there HMBA loves supporting mountain bike activity throughout the Hunter and look forward to bringing racing back to the Dungog Common when the Covid rules make it easier

09.01.2022 They say history is in the past and we should look forward to the future - well, yes, we are still sorting through some issues with the XC results from last weekend and hope to have them to you in the next few days, but more importantly we have some exciting news about our next race round..... To avoid being too close to Christmas we have decided to bring the next XC and DH Race Round forward to Sunday 6th December - and to make things even better there should be a really nice Christmas Present for everyone - we are still waiting to confirm a few details but we are planning to open our newest trail - keep following the Facebook Page and we will post a fully detailed Event Post asap AusCycling - New South Wales Lake Macquarie City Council Visit NSW State Forests

09.01.2022 Racing update for Sunday 20th September At this stage we are pushing on with our planning for the next XC Race under our Covid-19 Safety Plan - unfortunately the recently updated government rules will prevent us from operating our shuttle bus for the downhill event but hopefully these will ease in time for October. As per last round it will be ONLINE ENTRIES ONLY - this time we will be using the Race Result system for entries - you will still need to ensure that you have a cu...rrent MTBA Licence to race. Entries will close at 4pm on Saturday 19th September to give us time to get the data file organised for the race - no exceptions - NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY. With all the new youngsters getting into the sport we have decided to run the Junior Race (E Grade) a little bit differently this round - we will have diversions on the main XC Race Course to create a shorter lap for them so that they can compete in a 2-3 lap race - more chance for Mum and/or Dad to cheer them on across the finish line! We will put up more details in the official Event Post over the next few days - for now head to the following link and get your entry in - YAY! https://my.raceresult.com/155936/
