22.01.2022 Carl Caulfield and I first produced Being Sellers at the Playhouse in 1998 with the support of Malcolm Calder, before the Playhouse was closed for safety reason...s, we feared possibly for ever. Then Daniel Ballantyne rode into town and with the council's and the community's support, the Playhouse was refurbished and re-opened in 2005 with Stray Dogs production of Seems Like Old Times, a play set in Newcastle and featuring a stellar cast of local thespians, which became something of a hit. We've had a few ups and downs and hits and misses since then, but we're still standing! We weren't too sure we'd be back in the theatre in 2020 at all, but with the support of Leonie Wallace and Delia O'Hara and all the wonderful people at the Civic, here we are. Jonathan Biggins has returned to direct again, with a new soundscape by Simon Ritchie and lighting by Andrew Moore. What we need now, of course, is YOU. Cannot wait to see you back in our COVID-safe Playhouse this week only! See more

01.01.2022 Launching today, NIRIN NAARM presents selected moving image works from NIRIN, the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, under the artistic direction of Brook Andrew, from 10...15 November. View the works online and read more about the project and participating artists here: https://acca.melbourne/exhibition/nirin-naarm/ NIRIN, a Wiradjuri word meaning ‘edge’, was conceived as a world of endless interconnected centres; a space to gather and to share, to rejoice, disrupt, and re-imagine. NIRIN is at the forefront of global movements to centre indigeneity, to reconsider cultural narratives and practices, and to reimagine public spaces, monuments and memory. As we celebrate NAIDOC week, and the 2020 theme Always Was, Always Will Be, ACCA’s collaboration with the Biennale of Sydney brings NIRIN into dialogue with NAARM, a Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung word which refers to the land and waters of the Melbourne area.
