25.01.2022 **MONASH LSS PUBLIC LECTURE - THE HON ANTHONY NORTH QC** Continuing with our introductions, we are honoured to introduce the current Chair of the Victorian Law Reform, the Honourable Anthony North QC. With a distinguished career spanning forty-five years, the Hon. Anthony North QC is a former judge of the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1976, he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1989. ... In 1995, Mr North was made judge of the Federal Court of Australia, where he served until his retirement in 2018. He also served, from 2004, as additional judge of the Supreme Court of the ACT. During his time as judge, Mr North presided over cases involving constitutional and commercial law, industrial and employment law, taxation, intellectual property and native title. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Laws from the University of London. In 2019, Mr North was appointed Chair of the Victorian Law Reform Commission. Since his appointment, the VLRC has earlier this year finalised reports into contempt of court and committals, and is presently working on a reference into sexual offences and another reference into blind people and people with low vision, and deaf people and people who are hard of hearing serving on juries. 02.01.2022 ** LAW EXAMS UPDATE ** Hi everyone, The LSS has been making enquiries to the Faculty of Law and confirm that: 1. Law exams are using eVigilation (not Zoom). This was used for Trimester 2 JD exams and Semester 1 exams in other faculties. We have been told that this program operated smoothly for JD exams. ... 2. The rules about exams are common across the university. There are no special operational rules for Law exams. 3. The rules for open book exams are the same for all open book exams regardless of Faculty. We have been informed of this by the Faculty of Law. You are not allowed to access soft copy notes on the device you are using for your eExam (unless specifically instructed by your teaching staff or faculty). However, you can use a second device to access soft copy notes. *What does this mean for my devices?* You are not required to have a second device for Zoom. However, if you would like to access soft copy notes, you will need a second device to access those notes. If in doubt, please feel free to double check this via email with your Chief Examiners. As in Semester 1, the device which you are completing your exam on will need to be compliant with the device requirements on the eExams website. This means that your laptop will need to have a webcam, Google Chrome, and must be able to be charged during your exam. Further specifications are listed in the below website: https://www.monash.edu/exams/electronic-exams/device-specs *Other resources* We encourage you to check out the Monash eExams website here: https://www.monash.edu/exams/electronic-exams As always, the LSS is here for you.
