25.01.2022 Our wonderful festival partners Theme & Variations Piano Services are bringing 3 quality, affordable pianos up to Mudgee for sale during Music Festival. Prices start at around $4000. Make a no-obligation appointment to view, play and discuss your needs. Delivery to Mudgee included in the price. The team are also available for piano tuning (a standard tune costs $220).

24.01.2022 Wonderful and wide-ranging article about music, music education and leadership, from a very inspiring member of our festival audience. Ill miss the people.

24.01.2022 If you have kids or grandchildren, I can’t recommend this wonderful podcast highly enough. It’s a fantastic aid to send them to sleep through beauty and art. Ditch the white, the whale noise or worse... this is enriching them while supporting our homegrown artists and composers. It’s called Dream Time on the ABC LISTEN FOR KIDS app, and features largely Australian artists, playing classical music - often Aus composers too. A wonderful job by ABC Classic. And yes - it is very ...annoying when people diminish the art form to ‘music to relax to’, but let’s be honest - it does that too... and what a gift to subtly give our children. Check it out. https://apps.apple.com/au/app/abc-kids-listen/id1336318869

22.01.2022 Another one... too good not to share . Ara Vartoukian thoughts?

21.01.2022 Halliday is right. We breathe a sigh of relief every day that we ended the festival in 2019. We are devastated that our plans for weekends of music in the winery are on hold still - more for our wonderful musician friends than anything else - but we will be back as soon as is prudent. In the meantime, there is wine . Bloody good wine.

20.01.2022 The fabulous Mark Walton who has so wonderfully inspired our young people over the last few years, has started this petition to support music in schools. Join us

20.01.2022 The calm before the storm! Enjoying a cup of tea, listening to our wonderful new ABC Classic CD celebrating 30 years of Festivals and browsing the program. A winemakers lunch at 12pm and then bring on the music with Opening Night tonight. Musica Viva Australia

17.01.2022 What a wonderful day of music making with our 2019 Huntington Music Development Program Large Ensemble. They are working on the Cudgegong Suite, composed especially for them by the incredible Mark Walton OA for a performance at the 2019 Festival. The Ensemble is coordinated by talented local music teacher Alex Clare, who leads the weekly rehearsals, and is doing an amazing job. The wonderful young musicians are sounding extraordinary on just their 5th rehearsal. Cant wait ...to see where we end up . Thanks to Mudgee Public for the venue, and to the audience of the Festival for donating so generously to make this and our other programs possible.

17.01.2022 Re: the Art Deco Regent Theatre in Mudgee I support this petition. Council ownership of an performing arts centre, leased to a competent, interested body to manage the site seems to me the most practical and positive prospect for this historic building. I believe there is a need for this in the community, and an opportunity to create something wonderful for locals and visitors alike. I have to say, I have a lot of sympathy for the individuals who have bought the property wi...th a vision, only to find themselves hamstrung at every turn, prevented from realising their plans to give life to the building. They are not the bad guys. Based on recent history, I dont think anyone in their right minds would buy it now and that is a real problem if council dont come to the party - it will result in the further decay and eventual loss of this landmark. Anyhow, please join us and give your support to this petition - an extraordinary council meeting to discuss the site is being held soon.

13.01.2022 30th and FINAL Festival, here we come! Barrel wall Stage in progress ... ahead of schedule despite the best efforts of Essential energy who sprang a surprise power outage on us today, so the amazing Ben, Cellar Hand (who did the wall all by himself) did it in the dark. Legend. Thanks to Gage for design and consultancy, Ill be showing off his skills in another post, coming soon.

13.01.2022 A wonderful and very full day of music making today as our young musicians of our Huntington Music Development Program prepare for the recitals at the Community Concert on the 17th Nov at 5.30pm, and at the main festival. Im feeling so proud of our young musicians and what they are achieving here. Every single tutor we bring to Mudgee for this program remarks on how fabulous the children are and what a pleasure they are to teach. How attentive, motivated, eager to learn, sma...rt and well mannered they are. Beth Moloney is a fantastic and incredibly experienced Flute teacher, conductor, adjudicator from Sydney for an intensive weekend with our senior musicians Lara, Lucinda and Cooper and their Small Ensembles, plus and open workshop and private lessons. Heloise Meisel our wonderful violin tutor also came up from Sydney for a weekend of private lessons and a workshop with the Mudgee Public Strings Group. Wow! Another big day tomorrow. Thanks so much to all our tutors, local teachers, parents and especially those brilliant children.

12.01.2022 For our beautiful friends in the arts... it will get better. We were staring down the barrel of every kind of awful 3 months ago. And then it rained. And while many things are still bad, it still rained. This will get better. Love to you all xx

12.01.2022 We raise a great big glass of red to the inimitable Jane Matthews AO. She only ever missed a festival for her beloved Ring, and will be with us in spirit for our last hurrah this November, by commissioning the Farewell to Music by Carl Vine that will he played once only, and will close the Festival forever. As always, MJ says it best...

12.01.2022 We are devastated that there will be no 2020 Whites and Rose from Huntington Estate due to smoke taint from the fires in the Blue Mountains and surrounds. Watc...h the video to find out more from Tim, Chief Winemaker and Owner of Huntington Estate Wines. If you want to help, all you need to do is come and see us and our friends in the Mudgee Region who have beautiful wine, spirits, food and accomodation; buy more of our wine and say gday! Weve got just enough of the 2019 whites to last (well have to back off on the deals), and plenty of reds from 2015 to 2019 in bottle. Were very much #openforbusiness in the beautiful Mudgee Wine Region. NB: Mudgee is a big and diverse region, with many grape varieties that ripen at different times. This is our situation, were not speaking for anyone else.

05.01.2022 Excited about the Packing Shed Art Exhibition this year at festival!

04.01.2022 For those unable to see value in anything other than $$, try this... the creative and performing arts is a $111bn sector (vs $18bn aviation industry for example) with 75% out of work and no targeted support. The omission of support feels political, punitive. I can see no rational explanation for it. Ill bet the farm that each and every one of us is relying on the arts in some form or other to help get through this difficult time with spirits intact. ... The job keeper scheme (plus payroll tax relief) is a game changer for our winery business and is keeping us and our employees afloat, even allowing us to build productivity for the future. I dont need to add to the noise that it is flawed in design and execution BUT it is a life saver for those of us lucky enough to be able to get it. As the raft of programs and support is under review, we need to raise awareness of the plight of some wonderful humans who have lost their livelihoods, some their homes. The nature of the sector with its reliance on sales to large audiences means they were the first to close and will be the last to reopen. Now is the time to build pressure. You dont need me to make the case for the value of the arts. I do not accept that a job in the arts contributes less to society than a job in mining or farming, retail, food service or any other sector. The choices we make now about how to spend our money and use our voices will determine our future world. Lets make sure its a world enriched by artists.

04.01.2022 Another wonderful day of music making in Mudgee today - this time with the Yr 2 and Yr 3 students of the Mudgee Public School Strings Group, founded in 2018 and led by the amazing Lisa Caligari, a Yr 2 teacher at the school. We are so lucky to have the extraordinary and lovely Heloise Meisel to mentor this project of the Huntington Music Development Program. Heloises years of experience as Strings Conductor of the Sydney Youth Orchestra and Annandale North Public School and... her engaging and charismatic approach were brilliant. These 8 young musicians are working towards performances on the Barrel Hall stage at the family concert on the 17th Nov and at the main festival on the 22nd! They were so attentive and worked really hard and well. Next workshop is in a few weeks! Cant wait to hear how the kids progress.

03.01.2022 A FAREWELL TO MUSIC We captured Carl Vines tremendously moving work A Farewell to Music on video as a keepsake of our stunning final festival. Featuring all the festival artists, and commissioned for Musica Viva Australia by the late Jane Matthews, it was the perfect way to close the festival.... Its been quite the year. Drought, Bushfires that resulted in the loss of our entire vintage and now the pandemic that is decimating the arts, tourism, travel, hospitality and retail. Weve closed the cellar door, postponed planned musical events and are trying to stay afloat with our mail order wine sales. WIth thanks to our audience, Katherine Kemp for the original idea, Carl for writing such a beautiful work, the wonderful musicians, Michael Katz for the idea to make the recording and paying the bill!! Theme & Variations Piano Services, ABC Classic for the divine audio and Salt Media for the brilliant video. I hope it brings some light in the darkness. Cheers! Nicky & Tim Stevens

03.01.2022 Our beginners / intermediate HMDP flute workshop attendees sight reading Ode to Joy accompanied by rain... what wonderful sounds.
