14.01.2022 We are so grateful for the Huntingtower community! Not even the wet weather could dampen the spirits of the parents, friends, staff, students and families who came to the P&F Welcome Picnic on Wednesday night. A huge thank you goes out the Parents and Friends Association who made the night such a success - it was incredible to see so many members of our Huntingtower community helping and supporting the event! 12.01.2022 Year 9s Flying High! On Saturday morning the year 9 Huntingtower Young Scientists class launched a high-altitude balloon from the school oval. This is part of a simultaneous worldwide balloon launch called the ‘Equinox Launch’ - involving students from both the northern and southern hemispheres. The balloon carries a tiny 20g electronics payload that is solar powered and also incorporates a satellite receiver and a long distance radio. ... The balloon ascends to an altitude of 12,500m which is above weather clouds and most commercial plane flights. At this height the balloon is just on the edge of the troposphere and the stratosphere. Here the balloon is carried along in the Jetstream which is a fast flowing, narrow, meandering air current that circumnavigates the earth. The Huntingtower balloon was first driven to South Australia under the influence of a small low pressure system off western Victoria before circling back around and crossing Victoria on Sunday night. It is currently crossing the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand. It should cross South America on the weekend and then, with any luck, continue the journey under South Africa and India before returning across Australia in two weeks time. The balloon is not recovered and simply continues on its journey. You can track the progress of the Huntingtower balloon here https://aprs.fi/ The progress of all of the school balloons can be tracked on line here bit.ly/EquinoxLaunch2021 Here are Year 9 students Joshua and Riki - filling and releasing the high altitude balloon. Thanks to science teacher Mr. Hellard for leading this exciting program!
09.01.2022 How good are these shots from the Year 10 canoe trip last week! Sunrise on the Murray River - what an amazing photo! (thanks to Mr Evan P). Camps provide such an important experience in school life, these adventures help students grow and develop. Well done to everyone for making the most out the amazing opportunity, and thanks especially to the staff that made it all possible. What a fun week exploring the great outdoors
04.01.2022 Commencement! Di Westaway (HT Class of 77) gives the commencement speech to start off a new school year. Ms Westaway is the founder of Wild Women On Top and Coastrek, and works to empower and motivate women to leap outside their comfort zones. Her address encouraged resilience, vitality, well-being, and for students to enrich their lives by overcoming challenges. She was awarded an OAM in 2020 for her services to charitable initiatives. Her talk today inspired the Huntingtower community to value nature, thrive for adventure and make a positive impact on the world! Thank you Di Westaway.
