22.01.2022 Friday 4th September is a Student Free Day. Staff will be engaging in Professional Development sessions relating to the development of writing for all students and writing tools.



22.01.2022 In Middle 5 you will find some champion readers! Chloe shared one of her favourite books "There is a Monster Under My Bed Who Farts"! Hamish decided to do a stocktake of the coloured balls in the playground. He sorted by colour and then counted the balls.

20.01.2022 Junior 5 have been making butterfly prints with paint.



19.01.2022 Junior Secondary students have been building their understanding of volume and capacity; more and less; full, half full and empty. They have explored how various shapes and liquids can fill or cover different containers and two dimensional shapes.

19.01.2022 The FUN RUN is coming! Today is launch day for the school fun run. Families will be receiving information home today about this exciting event. To be held on October 7th, the Fun Run will be a little different this year and held within the school grounds. Head to the website - schoolfunrun.com.au to register your student.

17.01.2022 Today staff engaged in professional learning in a variety of ways. Janelle Sampson from Two Way Street presented, via Zoom, about Presumed Competence in relation to communication and learning language. Occupational Therapy team (Serina, Nina, Gaynor and Kylie) explores writing tools both high and low tech. Writing Moderation occurred across the school with staff engaging in fantastic discussions about student writing, writing tools and the Developmental Writing Scale.

17.01.2022 This week we celebrate Speech Pathology. Communicating with Confidence is the 2020 themes. Our speech-language pathologists support students at school to: - communicate - understand and use language - develop literacy skills... - participate in learning and other school activities - interact with other people - eat and drink safely Meet Katia, one of the lovely SLPs who work across our school with staff and students to support the communication needs of our students.

17.01.2022 Middle School are starting to explore directional language with some of our Bee-Bots. Bee-Bots are robots that require students to program their directions using left/right, forward/backward, and start/stop. Here they are with pens attached so the students could draw shapes and see the path travelled by their Bee-Bot. Tai discovered that by pressing the right button repeatedly, his Bee-Bot would travel in a complete circle.



17.01.2022 To add a bit of fun to the end of a hectic year we are hoping you will join in with the free dress day for students and staff on Friday 4 December. Everyone is welcome to come dressed in a Hawaiian or tropical theme for the day. Bright colourful clothes will do if you have no tropical print clothes, a single flower in your hair, a flower lai , grass skirt, board shorts or a Hawaiian shirt (Lowes menswear have the shirts ).

17.01.2022 Last week, the majority of students in Middle 11 created their own Dream Bird pictures through a listening and following instructions activity. They all did an amazing job and were very proud of what they had created. This week, the students then wrote about themselves holding their picture. They used both a writing pencil and an iPad to write their sentences.

16.01.2022 This week would have been Eisteddfod Week for our drummers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Gold Coast Eisteddfod was cancelled and our performers were very disappointed. Gold Coast Eisteddfod committee have given schools and performers the opportunity to perform and share these with the community via their social media pages. Here is our Number 1 Drum Ensemble performing at school last week.

15.01.2022 This semester Junior Secondary students are delving into History. They have been exploring similarities and differences between the past and present. Today two classes visited the Beenleigh Historical Village to experience schooling of the past and view various artefacts of our society.

15.01.2022 Clarification around School Photos. Kate Green Photography was on site in March for our original date for School Photos. More than a third of the staff and students weren’t there - it was the beginning of the unknown and changing times of the pandemic.... Due to the pandemic and the Department of Education’s regulations a make up day for these students and staff couldn’t be organized until August 5th. All orders from March and from August will be honoured by Kate Green Photography. We shared the order form yesterday in case families had misplaced it and wished to make an order.

15.01.2022 Music lessons with Sue are often a highlight of the week. Middle 8 enjoy engaging with instruments during their lessons.

14.01.2022 Our Year 10 Hospitality Students are exploring sandwich making this term. The Simple Sandwiches module gives students the opportunity make six different styles of sandwiches.

13.01.2022 New student free days added to Term 4! In recognition of the outstanding efforts of school staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two days of the school year, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December, have been declared student free days. 12.01.2022 Morning messages and session schedules are two ways that Middle 6 are demonstrating writing has a purpose. To assist our students to see themselves as writers and that writing has a purpose they need to see the adults around them writing. The classroom has some great writing supports including letter sorting bags and the alphabet frieze which features Auslan finger spelling signs.

11.01.2022 Yesterday our P&C president, Cameron, presented our Year 6 and Year 12 students with their Senior Shirts. Splash made a special trip to visit our Primary and Secondary Student Leaders.

11.01.2022 Letter of the week activities in Middle 7 include hands on activities such as sorting various resources, toys and images into their respective initial letter. Some students have moved on to working with words and investigating onset and rime (also known as word families).

10.01.2022 This year’s Year 12 Graduation will be held at Southport Sharks. Parents and carers, keep an eye out next week for formal invitations and details about ticket purchases.

09.01.2022 Middle 7 have been practising their writing. With the assistance of flip charts and PODD alphabet displays students have chosen letters to get the message across. Predictable Chart Writing also features as part of the classes writing sessions.

04.01.2022 Kate Green Photography will be at school on Wednesday, 5th August from 9.00am 2.00pm to take photos of the students and staff that were absent in March as well as any new students/staff that have since joined the school.

04.01.2022 Last night we celebrated our Year 12 Graduation. Congratulations to all the students (and families) on completing your schooling. 2020 has been a crazy year and we did not think our Graduation would be able to happen but as restrictions eased we could plan our gala event with the help of Sharks Function Staff. Thank you to all who helped make the night a success and to the families, carers and students making it a fabulous night!
