25.01.2022 So many of our tourism businesses have been impacted by the COVID19 related shutdowns. We supported the Liberal Government announcements around the emergency s...upport for business. Today Rebecca White MP Bastian Seidel, Labor Candidate for Huon and myself met with Paul, the owner of Huon Bush Retreats to hear his story. We heard hard he has been hit and how unfair the roll out of the business grant program has been. We are calling on the Government to conduct a full review and do more to support businesses across the state, otherwise many will fall over and that will have a devastating impact on our community and our economy. Paul is also open for business, it’s a stunning site and if you can make a booking and support them, or any tourism business you can get to, please do.

23.01.2022 We are open again after the Covid19 shutdown" The #MountMiseryWalk follows the same rules as other reserves, On May 11 National Parks and reserves will open to... residents who live no more than 30km away. So yes, we are open from May 11. During shutdown, we have had zero income yet our outgoings have continued at around $180 per day, or $22 per hour. We have expended our cash reserves, superannuation and gone into debt to survive. We ask that you help us survive for at least the time that you are using the facility that we provide for you, with a generous donation equalling at least $22 per hour that you are on the track. 22.01.2022 To ensure the community is safe from COVID-19, Parks and Wildlife Service has introduced registration and booking systems for popular day and overnight walks, c...ampgrounds and attractions including #HastingsCaves. Pre-registration and bookings are required to ensure physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices are met. Bookings for cave tours will be taken in advance, by phone, with payment by credit card. There will be four tours per day, with just eight places on each tour. To book: 03 6298 3209. This might make cave tours difficult as a day trip from #Hobart, so maybe stay a night or two at #ButrongrassRetreat, just 10 minutes drive from Hastings Visitor Centre. See more

18.01.2022 Just as southern Tasmanian tourism operators were glimpsing a little light at the end of the Covid19 shutdown tunnel, Huon Valley Council has decided to throw r...egional tourism on the Covid19 slag heap. This will lead to people who want face to face visitor information turning to the Hobart Visitor Centre, which as its name suggests, will encourage people to stay in Hobart, rather than overnight in the regional south. Read the council news release and more info at https://www.huonvalleyescapes.net//covid19-final-straw-for Huon Valley Escapes continues to offer tourist information for Hobart, Bruny Island, Huon Valley and far South Tasmania. 18.01.2022 This October is a great time for night sky spectacles. Early October brings Mars close to earth and in the same part of the sky as the full moon, Then comes a great Moon/Venus interaction, followed at the end of the month by the Orionids Meteor Shower. For the best views, get away from town lights at secluded locations such as Clifftop Cabin at #HuonBushRetreats or #ButtongrassRetreat at Ida Bay. 12.01.2022 On Thursday we walked up to Mt Misery which was a little challenging but the owners have done a fabulous job of creating the track and maintaining it also! What... a spectacular place and the scenery from Flat Rock is just to die for! We came across some more forest gems in the form of more fungi but some native orchids also. In the next couple of months there are going to be even more spectacular orchids present up on the plateau - we may have to take a day trip and do the walk to see them. #Huon #HuonBushRetreats #Tasmania #Nature See more

11.01.2022 Mona proposes a 'Green Lens' at Ida Bay, near #ButtongrassRetreat The proposal, titled ‘Green Lens’, has been developed by MONA’s DarkLab as part of Project X, ...which was established to encourage visitation to the Huon Valley region after the 2019 summer bushfires. Tasmanian Minister for Environment and Parks, Roger Jaensch said We remain committed to help our tourism industry recover from the impacts of COVID-19, especially once our borders reopen. Projects like this can attract tourists to the State and enhance our reputation for delivering high-quality experiences that showcase our natural areas into the future, The Green Lens proposal involves the creation of a new immersive art installation in the Ida Bay State Reserve, near Lune River in the State’s south. The art installation would include supporting infrastructure and would be accessed via a walkway, leading from a visitor centre and carpark on the site. The Green Lens project has the potential to encourage overnight stays, rather than just day trips in the revitalisation of the Huon Valley region, Assistant Minister Duniam said. The Government says it will ensure that the important natural and cultural heritage values of the reserve are appropriately protected, including working with the Ida Bay Railway Preservation Society to manage the site’s historic rail heritage. 04.01.2022 Maybe it is time for people to pressure Government to instigate a system like New Zealand has where everyone is automatically insured for accidents. 02.01.2022 Weaving thoughts. Tonight's yoga was a practice in stillness and presence. I found my mind settle into a feeling much like the one found on retreat as we medita...ted by the labyrinth...Deep knowing. The path became clear. The next step revealed itself. There was a rekindling of the fire within me.
