24.01.2022 Huskisson RSL subBranch or HUSKY RSL as it is known meets at CLUB JB LIMITED at 8 Currumbene Street Huskisson on the second Thursday of each month at 1900hrs. The sub-Branch is a separate entity from CLUB JB whose immense support of our branch is greatly appreciated. HUSKY RSL wants to reach out to all Veterans in the Bay & Basin area who have served in the ADF or with Australia’s Allies and in particular those younger veterans, both men & women, who have more recently been ...discharged from the ADF or have moved in to this area to enjoy a well-earned retirement. Importantly HUSKY RSL welcomes Reservists to the warm comradeship of our branch. Not only does HUSKY RSL conduct commemorative services for ANZAC Day, Vietnam Veterans Day & Remembrance Day at our beautiful VOYAGER PARK memorial but our professional WELFARE & PENSIONS Officers are ready to help you with any assistance you may require. These Officers attend regular training programmes so they are up to date with the latest changes to entitlements. HUSKY RSL supports financially RSL NSW approved veterans service organisations & local schools & defence related entities. It enjoys a strong working co-operation with HMAS Creswell. Contrary to un-complimentary but mainly factual commentary in recent times RSL NSW has undertaken an extraordinary dedicated journey to modernise its structure, governance and mission to maintain its aim to provide supportive services to all Veterans. HUSKY RSL recognises the importance & compassionate support provided to Veterans by their Partners and looks to identify ways where Partners can be supported through RSL NSW initiatives in this area. HUSKY RSL would welcome the chance to meet with you to assist you if required & look forward to getting to know you.

20.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2020 Anzac Day in 2020 was different, due to the Coronavirus, not only in Australia but world wide. However, at dawn many Australians gathered in the driveways, their lounges, balconies or a quiet place for a candlelight vigil. They gave their respect to honour the past and present Australian Armed Service Men and Women who have sacrificed and given their service for their country called Australia. "Lest We Forget".... Dawn services with minimal numbers were broadcast over the TV and radio from all capital cities around Australia, as well as a 10am or 11am service. The Huskisson RSL sub-Branch raised the Australian, New Zealand and the Union Jack flags to half mast in Voyager Memorial Park. At 1100hrs the "Ode" was recited. The "Last Post and Revellie" was played on a trumpet by volunteer, Gareth Jones. A wreath was laid by the President of Huskisson RSL sub-Branch for and on behalf of their sub-Branch members. There were already wreaths placed around the Memorial and some bystanders came and placed flowers and wreaths. Some of the wreaths and flowers that were left, their identifications were: 2/110 General Transport Company 2 A.C.S "The Flying Shovels" Nowra District T&I Social Welfare Club NT A.W.A.S. Loc. Pelican Point Pre-School (painted rock) Rehabilitation through task trained Service Dogs for Veterans, First Responders & Correctional Officers St Georges Basin View Club Vietnam Veterans Motor Cycle Australia, Gippsland Chapter. Vietnam Veterans of Jervis Bay To, Chief Petty Officer - Peter Welsh from family "For all my mates who have passed on" from Ex CPl & A/SGT - Alan Gilson. Sadly, there were many others who had not left identifications. Lastly, Anzac Day 2020 will be remembered in our Australian history. THE "ODE" They shall grow not old, as we that left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.

11.01.2022 FASCINATING PIECE OF HISTORY Why did the US choose a US Navy Iowa-class battleship as the location for Japan's surrender in World War 2 even though they were in Tokyo Bay and could have used a building on land? Pure symbolism. Nothing says "you're utterly defeated" than having to board the enemy's massive battleship in the waters of your own capital city. A naval vessel is considered sovereign territory for the purposes of accepting a surrender. You just don't get that if yo...Continue reading
