20.01.2022 The HVGC Committee met last night to discuss the recent Federal Government enforced closures for clubs. As you are probably aware this means that the Clubhouse can no longer be used for social gatherings or for the provision of services. In considering the guidelines from Golf Australia and with further discussion with the Commission of Gaming and Licensing, we are able to continue to open the Clubhouse for operational purposes provided we lock off the bar, lounge and kitch...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Great news for our members from the Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation. We ask everyone to please follow any guidelines the club puts in place for golf to resume during the COVID-19 pandemic.

18.01.2022 Please take note of the latest update from Golf Australia - Tasmania restrictions. Yes we are open for now but strict restrictions on numbers of players on the course exist. Breaching these rules will ultimately result in our course being closed. Our booking system exists for our members in what would normally be our club competition days of Wednesday and Saturday and these should be used to book your time slot. Limited slots are available however to ensure compliance with th...e latest restrictions. When this is booking list is full the first tee will be closed until 2pm. Beyond that the same limits apply of maximum 18 golfers on the course. Please everyone, follow the above restrictions, abide by course signage, observe the 1.5m social distance and practice strict hygiene measures. After your round of golf you should immediately depart the golf club and return home. No socialising around the clubhouse, head home! Golf is a privilege at this time. Further updates will occur as soon as they may occur. Captain HVGC

15.01.2022 Dear All The impacts of the Coronavirus are continuing and changing rapidly. The Premier has announced today - If you want to go for a walk, you can do it with one other person. A bike ride, play golf, a horse ride, it can only be done with one other person.... This applies as from midnight tonight and is for a period of 1 month. What it means for you and the Club: For Wednesdays and Saturdays the booking system is to be used with all time slots being open but for pairs (2 people) only No competitions will be run and it will be social golf only No cards will be submitted or entered into the system until further notice Please attend the club at the booked time, play your golf and then leave the Golf Club Social distancing still applies as do personal hygiene measures. THERE IS TO BE NO SOCIALISING, NO CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL, FOODS OR BEVERAGES AT THE CLUB ON THE COMPLETION OF YOUR ROUND please go home. We are extremely lucky to still be able to play golf, unlike so many other sports that have been closed down so please respect this privilege. The Premier further stated in his press conference this morning the following No order issued on this, just very strong guidance if you are 70 years or over, or anyone that is 60 years and over but with underlying health conditions you should be self-isolating and this will be in place for four weeks. Our Committee is endeavouring to continue to give you the opportunity to play golf but please consider all issues, as they personally relate to you, before you make the decision to play golf. We make no apology for the conditions that have been applied and expect every member to act responsibly to minimise any risk to both yourself and your fellow members. The Committee Huon Valley Golf Club

15.01.2022 As a result of the Huon River breaking its banks upstream of the course the 1st, 9th & 18th have been impacted. At 2:30 today the water has receded some and its hoped this will continue overnight allowing the course to be open on Sunday. Fear not our trusty volunteers will be at it this week to have any resulting damage repaired.

15.01.2022 According to one medical expert, golf as it’s normally played outdoors, with natural social-distancing built in would be fairly safe.

14.01.2022 The President Sue Clark on behalf of the Huon Valley golf club has advised that one of our valued members, Brendon Hills has recently lost his dear wife Lesley and we send our deepest sympathy to Brendon and his family at this very sad time.

14.01.2022 A Tasmanian Champion golfer and Champion bloke taken too soon. Never too busy to help anyone and always greeted you with that beaming smile. Sincere condolences to his family. We mourn with you today.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to Geoff Abbott who scored a hole in one on the 10th hole on Saturday August 1st. This was Geoff's third hole in one and second at Huon Valley. Geoff will have his golf ball mounted on a trophy and presented to him as a memory of his hole in one. Well done Geoff

13.01.2022 2021 Club Championships. For several years there has been discussion around the timing of the Club Championships. Following the upcoming challenging summer, it has now been decided to play the Championships later in the year. They will now be held over four consecutive Saturdays commencing on 6 November 2021. This decision was influenced by our very busy summer golfing calendar and it was felt that by reducing members’ playing commitments at that time, there could be a greate...r focus on our summer events calendar. It also moved the Championships away from the pennant season, which is another major commitment for many players. The decision also takes into consideration the volunteer work that is required to conduct these events and, by spreading the load, it is far more manageable for the members involved in organising these events. We know this decision has its positives and negatives, but your Committee believes this is the right change to ensure a better playing experience for all members. Dennis Kelly Captain

13.01.2022 Results from the weekends pennant round is as below. Huon Valley’s division five went down 4&3 to North West Bay this week and division two had a bye A break this weekend for the public holiday before pennant resumes on the 15th March for division five who are away to Tasmania and the 22nd of March division two resume at home vs Claremont.

12.01.2022 Whilst the current restrictions have our sand buckets temporarily removed to avoid any personal handling if you don’t have your own to sand bucket to use and take a divot you might need to repair it the old way. Watch on as Dennis demonstrates how to repair divots in what he describes as the old school way before the carrying of sand became a common practice. Simply tap in the perimeter of your divot, replace the divot taken and tamp it down with your foot. Tamping is ver...y important to restablish the roots to the soil. This simple method will see that divot all but disappear in a week or so. Please enjoy and we hope to bring more similar demonstrative videos in the near future https://youtu.be/tuQW-RjgR1E

11.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we took delivery of our new tractor. The tractor was sourced by a local supplier R&R Hickey. Our volunteers have given it the tick of approval with more horsepower than the previous tractor and the 4 in 1 bucket makes it so versatile for a number of tasks. Barry has been hard to dislodge from the seat and is seen below assisting with the extension to the 4th tee at this weekends working bee. Many thanks to all those that came along to assist on the day.

08.01.2022 Results from week 4 of Southern Pennant

07.01.2022 Wednesday afternoon is the first of the Twilight competition, which runs each Wednesday through until the end of March 2021. Competition starts at 3pm each Wednesday with a mixture of stroke and stableford events run alternate weeks. Twilight is a great way to play a shorter version of golf with plenty of fun to be had. ... Hope to see you all turn up and enjoy this great golfing competition

05.01.2022 The Huon Valley Golf Club regrets to advise that this year we feel it appropriate to cancel both the Ladies and Men’s Huon Valley Masters Golf Tournaments due to the low number of entries, particularly from visitors. These low numbers really take away the tournament ‘feel’. This decision has not been taken lightly and we hope you appreciate that to successfully run such events, we do need a higher numbers of visitor entries. For those of you who have already entered and paid simply contact the club via email for a full refund.

05.01.2022 Vale Bill 'Whippy" Wellington, a true gentleman of the game, club champion, loved and respected member of Huon Valley Golf Club. Our thoughts at this time extend to all of Whippy's family, you are not alone, we grieve together at this time. Until we walk a fairway again my friend......

05.01.2022 Results from the weekends pennant rounds are as in. Both teams were unable to secure the match win away with division two going down 6 & 1 and division five going down 4 & 3. Not the result either team had hoped for but they are both still in the hunt for the pennant win this year. This week division two has a bye and division five host North West Bay at 9am. ... Members and visitors should note the course will be closed until around noon to enable division five host North West Bay. Once the last pairing has completed the 10th hole the 1st tee will be open for use. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause members and visitors. Good luck this week division five as a win at home may result in taking the ladder lead unless New Norfolk can win away at Tasmania Golf Club.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Colleen Frost who is the 2020 Huon Valley Golf Club Ladies Division 1 Champion and Brenda Wagner who was the runner-up. Congratulations to Polly Robertson who is the 2020 Huon Valley Golf Club Ladies Division 2 Champion and Christine O'Connor who was the runner-up. Congratulations to Brenda Wagner who is the 2020 Huon Valley Golf Club Ladies Veterans Division Champion... To all those that competed in the event we thank you and hope you all return and contest the 2021 Ladies Club Championships.

03.01.2022 Whilst in some states and countries golf is banned we are fortunate to still remain open for exercise and social golf. Please strictly adhere to any signage erected around the club and course so golf isn’t removed from an allowed activity. Social distance of 1.5m or an extended club length is required at all times. ... Refrain from removing the flag stick please, plastic inserts will stop the ball from falling to the bottom and allow easy retrieval. Well done to Jimmy with this practical thinking design. Maximum two golfers per hole and a 15min gap between teeing off from the first tee. If you see golfers playing down the 9th fairway wait until they move through the 10th tee. Same two golfers applies to the practice green also. Visitors are able to play and green fees still apply as normal. Visitors should note Wednesday and Saturdays our members have exclusive use of the course so choose an alternate day. Our members can still access the booking portal as normal to select a tee time on Wednesdays and Saturdays. ALL GOLFERS should leave the course immediately after their round, no socialising around the club or car park is permitted. If you are unwell please don’t play golf, stay home and save lives, it’s not worth the risk to others. Have some fun whilst exercising, call your mates later and tell them about your round and have a beverage doing that as an alternative at this time. (Picture stolen off the web, was too good not to share )

01.01.2022 The Captain has advised that due to the amount of rain the course will be closed today.
