22.01.2022 Congratulations
21.01.2022 From The Scone Thoroughbreds Rugby League Football Club It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Geoff Pund ... Pundy was such an integral part of our club. From starting in his playing days, winning premierships, coaching and progressing into the role of junior Vice President for the last few seasons. In recent years Pundy would be the first person to turn up on game day, spent many hours at the gate and could be found having a beer in the sheds with the players and sweeping the floors out at days end. I know this wasn’t unusual as he also gave up so much of his time to volunteer with the Jr league also. Kids that have spent time at the Sr or Jr Thoroughbreds all know Pundy as the friendly man who would always love to have a yarn, joke with them at Scone Park & maybe sneak them a soft drink when their parents aren’t looking. A Thoroughbred man through and through, a generous man who just a terrific bloke Pundy will be so greatly missed by all who knew him, may he Rest In Peace
20.01.2022 GROUP 4’s regular season might have got the chop because of the Covid-19 Pandemic but its inaugural Wests Entertainment Group 9’s got the Chopper. The Choppe...r in this case is the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and its marvellous aero retrieval service. Group 4 recognises WRHS is such a vital emergency service that it will donate all the entrance fees from the up-coming WEG 9’s to the Chopper (WHRS). In keeping with the tough times too Group 4 has elected to keep those entrance fees at just a gold coin donation for the WRHS in an effort to make it affordable as well as fun and entertaining for both spectator and players alike. Richard Jones OAM, the chief executive officer of the WRHS, is delighted his organisation will receive the gate takings for the bright and innovative 9’s. We are very thankful that Group 4 for that, Richard Jones told Group 4 today. It’s a great concept and we wish everyone a safe and successful tournament. Jones, a Group 21 premiership winning captain-coach with Singleton and a hooker/prop with St George in his younger playing days, isn’t the only high-profile footballer/personality offering their support. Former NRL stars Laurie Daley, Brad Fittler and Jamie Lyon as well as Warriors CEO Cameron George have all sent messages of support for the WEG 9’s. Indeed Lyon’s clothing gear company, Paladin, is providing all the jumpers, shorts and socks for the four teams and referees. 15.01.2022 HE was born April 27, 1957 and christened Graeme John Cooper but everyone knew him as Jody Cooper. He grew to become one of Group 4 Rugby League’s most valued a...nd respected administrators before his sudden, recent and untimely death. His North Tamworth Bears won a record sixth successive Group 4 First grade premiership in 2019 and topped it off by snaring a third Clayton Cup (the symbol of Country Rugby League supremacy) under his watch. It all started innocently enough, the former mechanic and car salesman described as something of a little bugger who used to create havoc in the neighbourhood. He was nicknamed Jody Blodey by his next door neighbour and Jody stuck. Jody became a stalwart player for firstly the Tamworth City Lions, then a great clubman for both the Tamworth City and then merged West Lions (West Tamworth Robins and Tamworth City Lions) before joining the North Tamworth Bears. He ran a fairly tight ship, said North Tamworth premiership winning and Clayton Cup coach Brad McManus. The Dancing Bear (McManus) recalled how the late North Tamworth Rugby League Football Club president ensured the Bears had become a sporting powerhouse. Under captain-coach Scott Blanch the side won its sixth straight Group 4 first grade premiership in 2019 and was hoping to add to that amazing run before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit this year. Jody was 63 earlier this year. A proud family man, he married talented hockey player Vicki McDonald in 1987 and brought up a son, James (now the NIAS chief executive officer) and daughter Georgia. He (Jody) made the calls that had to be made, that’s why the club is so successful, Brad McManus continued about his former mate and club president. He was a devout club man, playing in the front row for Tamworth City Lions and then retiring to a position on the committee. He also has team manager for various Lions sides before linking with the Bears in the last decade. He was a prop, former Tamworth City star Geoff Whitten recalled. A great clubman and committeeman. When City and West Tamworth amalgamated (to form the West Lions) he was a part of that too. Tamworth City Old Boys secretary David Head remembers Jody as a staunch and strong committeeman. Mick Schmiedel, who captain-coached Tamworth City Lions to a come from behind win over Gunnedah Bulldogs in the 1994 Group 4 Grand Final at Kitchener Park, Gunnedah, also remembers Jody as a staunch club man who helped his Lions to an emotional premiership. Down 14-nil early they responded to claim a famous win celebrated by all Lions. He was heavily involved in the club then, Mick Schmiedel said. Not many people will know or remember he was also part of the very first meeting we had to form the Oxley Diggers and get them up and running. However he couldn’t continue on with us. A year later and he was barracking for his son at Norths. Jody was also team manager for Tony La Chiusa at both the Tamworth City Lions and West Lions. Tony La Chiusa, who had played his junior football for the Tamworth City Lions became one of Group 4’s most successful coaches when he took over the West Lions. He managed my sides at both City and West Lions, Tony La Chiusa said. We called him the old mother. He was always the level-headed one, the sensible one. When you needed to have a chat he was always there for you and he had that quiet influence on people. He was a steadying influence on everybody. Jody’s football allegiance took another turn (across the river so to speak) when his son (James) returned to Tamworth and started playing for the North Tamworth Bears. He truly loved the North Tamworth Football club and all that the club stands for, James Cooper eulogised at his father’s funeral. On many occasions he would tell me how Tamworth City was the best club and culture he had ever been involved with. He would also tell me that Norths is on par with City and he would remind me to enjoy it because good clubs are with you for life. Brad McManus agrees with that. He had captain-coached the Bears in 2013 and 14 before retiring from coaching and taking on the club presidency at Norths. Jody took over from me as president the year after and I coached the Bears again, he said. The Bears have won the past six Group 4 premierships - winning under McManus in 2014, with Zac Russ as captain-coach in 2015 and then with McManus again in 2016 and 2017 and for Scott Blanch the past two seasons. McManus and Blanch have also won Clayton Cups (2014 and 2019) to go with the club’s first Clayton Cup in 1980 under Peter Woolaston. He became a big part of the club, McManus said of Jody’s involvement with the Bears. Took over from me as president in 2016. Cracked down on the things that had to be cracked down on. He let you do the coaching. We had an agreement too, I’d worry about things inside the fence and he’d worry about the things outside the fence. He was easy to talk to, if I ever had a problem I’d just talk to him and he’d sort it out. He will be sadly missed. Jody Cooper was also an active member of the Group 4 Board and has helped guide Group 4 in recent years. 2020 was going to be a big year for not only Norths but Group 4 with the return of Moree Boars and an eight-team first grade competition. He was also instrumental in setting up what will be the inaugural WEG 9’s in October and was a firm supporter of its germination from stalwart Jack Woolaston and interim Group 4 president Terry Psarakis. Vale Graeme Jody Cooper may you rest in a lion-hearted peace. 15.01.2022 R U OK? A great day to remind the team that this is not a question just for today, but every single day. Remember to look after one another. A conversation could change a life. #RUOK #stayconnected #MorganEngineeringNSW
12.01.2022 The family of Ray Mitchell, together with our Mum, Colleen, would like to share news of his recent passing, due to illness. Dad was involved with the club in ...the 1960's and often spoke fondly of players and fellow club members from then. He was also President of Group 4 around this time. To this day, his blazer hangs in his wardrobe. Dad was a wealth of knowledge about all things rugby league, which impressed his many grandchildren and great- grandchildren! and he always had a good story to tell. He was a wonderful man, dearly loved and cherished by all his family. Dad was 91. He will be sorely missed. I took this photo of Dad in Nov. 2019, when we visited 'the creek'. The others are of his blazer. Kind regards, Julie Turner née Mitchell. See more

10.01.2022 Massive Thankyou to Kerrod Holland for coming to be our guest speaker tonight at our season launch!
09.01.2022 It has been a sad time for the people of Sandy Hollow and Denman, with the passing of Carey Wallace long before his time. I was closely associated with Carey ov...er the years as a footballer, publican and farmer. I coached Denman first grade in 1972, Carey’s first year out of Under 18’s. In the second trial match of the season we played West Tamworth up there, and Carey’s performance against the stars was outstanding. It was looking like he had a great future in the game. Sadly he was struck down by a recurrence of rheumatic fever, which put him out of the game for 3 years. He came back in 1975 when Denman had a magnificent side that won the Grand Final and also the Northern Division title, beating Moree in the final. Carey was 14 stone when he got sick and 10 stone when he came back. He forced himself back into that side as mainly a replacement player and performed well. After his retirement, he came back and helped the club as a Treasurer. He was the eldest son of the famous Wallace football family, father Garth and brothers Owen, Mick and Clinton. You will be sadly missed, good mate. Rest In Peace. Condolences to your wonderful wife Sonia, and all the family. Carey was also a keen member of Denman Golf Club. Neil See more

08.01.2022 Massive Thankyou to Josh King for giving up his time today to join us for a pre season clinic! It is absolutely amazing to have an NRL player join us & share yo...ur knowledge with our players. Thankyou also to Daniel Swan from the NRL for coming as well, the kids definitely appreciated your knowledge of the game. The feedback has been amazing & we appreciate the kids that came down & had a run today! Hopefully every one of them got something out of today. We want the best for our kids & we want to help them to develop into the best players they can be. Watch our stories for some of the stuff the kids did today Our town, our club, our future! #wearetheredandwhites
08.01.2022 Under 14s Greta Branxton Colts and Southlakes Roosters showing respect with a minute silence for Joel Dark of Central Newcastle who passed away after a head knock during a match last weekend. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes out to Joel’s family and team mates
04.01.2022 The Old Boys wish to pass our condolences onto the family and friends of Noel Crandell who passed away last Friday. Woody or Wood Duck as he was known to everyo...ne was a lanky speedy winger or centre back in his footy days for the Thoroughbreds. Whilst he didn’t have a long career he managed to be involved in two of the Clubs biggest days. He was part of Pundy’s 2nd Division premiership winning team on that great day in 1976. He was also a member of Scone’s 1979 Reserve grade premiership winning team under Joe Palmer when Scone won all 3 grades and Les Cleals A grade side won Scone’s first and so far only Clayton Cup. He was a safe hardworking team man that wouldn’t let you down. Woody was also one of the Zambucks for the 1994 premiership team and I know the guys involved in that team appreciated his hard work and humour. On the big days like home semi finals and grand finals when the committee would need extra help you could always count on Woody to be there to help however he could. It is ironic that Woody passed away at work because he was always a hard worker who would be the first there to help anyone at anytime. Just a good bloke. Woody’s funeral will be at St Luke’s Scone at 11am on Thursday 26th. To Di and Christopher we are all thinking of you at this time and be safe in the knowledge that Woody’s hard work and humour was appreciated by us all and he will be missed. Woody was one of the good ones. RIP mate
01.01.2022 From the Thoroughbred Stable: Today I had the pleasure of Brian Rose Burgmann contacting me with some great memorabilia from the 1972 premiership winning team. It’s an enjoyable part of the role as president receiving and being able to pass on these pictures to our supporters. I don’t and will not pretend to know much about the 72 team but I would love for anyone that does have memories to comment, it’s gives me great pride to share it amongst you all. You only have to look ...at the names of these men to know what a great team it would have been President Tom Hagan See more
01.01.2022 We have another clinic coming for our juniors! Brett & Glenn Stewart will be joining us on the 30th of January! So pencil it in your diary This will be a ...free clinic again for the 14-18 year olds. The Stewart brothers will be joining us for a beer back at the Albion hotel afterwards so get down & have a beer with them Our club, our town, our future! #wearetheredandwhites
