22.01.2022 We have received the following email from the USA. Please reply directly to her if you can help. I am an (American) descendant of Ryans from Co. Westmeath, Ireland. "Our" great great grandmother Anne Ryan and her husband John Moorhead immigrated to America in 1855 following an "incident" with an unpopular Anglo Irish landlord. However, many of Anne Ryan's siblings (and cousins) immigrated to Australia around the same time. These Australian-bound siblings included Patrick Ry...an (b. 1831; married Mary Agnes Nally; d. 3-7-1910, Queensland; possible daughter Mary Agnes Emma Ryan 1877-1957, buried at Mount Bassett Cemetery, Mackay), Ellen (b. 1833; married a Beaumont), and Michael (b. 1837; married Elizabeth Coyne; d. 1910). The parents of these Ryans were Patrick Ryan and Ellen Gavin. These Co. Westmeath Ryans apparently stemmed from a Denis Ryan who came to Meedin, Co. Westmeath from Co. Tipperary in the late 18th Century. We know from our modern day County Westmeath relations that "Ryans" from Australia came to Co. Westmeath a few years ago looking for their roots (just as we did). So some descendants from Co. Westmeath living in Australia appear to be aware of their ancestral link to Co. Westmeath. We would love to connect with our Australian Ryans.
