24.01.2022 7 Steps to Protecting your Identity With our lives becoming more digital each day it’s essential we start taking some precautions. While there is no 100% guarantee against being attacked these seven steps will certainly help. You don’t have to tackle every step at once, or even in order, every bit makes your digital world a bit more secureso start today with at least one of these steps. Over the next 7 days, we will post 7 steps to assist you in reducing your risk. Step 1 : ...Use strong passwords Passwords have always been a thorn in our side. They’re often too short or too common, easy to hack, or too long you can’t remember them. The sad truth is even the best ones may not be enough to keep you safe but you’ll be significantly safer if you keep these tips in mind when creating your passwords. Don’t use words from the dictionary Don’t use any of the most common passwords (i.e. password, 123456, abc123, qwerty, yuiop,) Use long passwords you can remember Don’t reuse passwords on multiple sites, which means you’ll need a password management tool to remember them all (we'll show you this in step 5) Change your passwords regularly! We have all done it at some point..(come on, you know you have!) we have given a password to a part of our digital world for whatever reason to someone we trust, then don't change it afterward. What if that person had written it down? What if you have a falling out with that person? Always a good idea NOT to give your passwords to anyone, but if you need to, change it once the task or job is done. ACTION! If you don't have strong passwords, change them now. This could take you 5 minutes to an hour depending on how many passwords you need to change. Lot's of passwords? We will show you some tools to be able to manage your passwords.

19.01.2022 Step 2 of the 7 things you can do to increase your personal online security: Enable two step authentication. What is it?... Think of two step (aka two factor) authentication as the second layer of security between you and a would be hacker. The basic idea is that a password is not enough to access the website, a second form of identification will be needed. For consumer websites this takes the form of a random set of numbers sent to you in text message or on an app. (ever setup a Gmail account?) Not all websites offer two step authentication but for those that do it’s well worth the few minutes it takes to set up. Follow the links for setup instructions on these popular websites. "*Example.com* 2 Factor verification" (where *example.com is, type in the name of the website or service you use)
