18.01.2022 Once seen as just a place to cook, kitchens were often detached and nestled away in older homes to conceal mess and the so called boring part of the house, while entertaining was carried out separately in the living or dining rooms. But, over the last decade, kitchens have certainly earned their title as the central hub and heart of every home, and it's easy to see why. No longer just a place to cook, a good kitchen is a place to congregate, where food is created, bodies ...and minds are fuelled and where endless memories are created. And as a result, the style of kitchens has changed dramatically over time, now becoming integrated with dining and living spaces, with some people even opting for a massive island bench with chairs inside their kitchens or a large enough breakfast bar for six chairs. A great kitchen therefore needs to be, of course functional and practical, but also bear the fruits of every chefs dream. Here's a peek at the impressive kitchen and scullery inside our Mount Pleasant residence. At first glance we appreciate the size of the kitchen as it demands its presence within the home. It's integrated appliances and perfect balance of colours allow for that slick finish, while the shadow line finger grips, shark tooth bench top, porcelain splashback and black tapware give that added touch of class. And don't worry about the mess while entertaining, the scullery can cleverly hide away the nights sins. We absolutely LOVE this kitchen and can just envisage the memories to be made in here! With a frangipani tree and koi fish pond surrounding, it's nothing short of amazing and leaves you in awe from the moment you step foot into the home. We had a similar experience in Milan when we entered into the foyer of Palazzo Parigi - absolute heaven! ... So there's certainly something to be said about foyers. 03.01.2022 Would you believe this was a renovation? Swipe to see the before and some incredible afters. This home was transformed from a 3 bedroom x 1 bathroom to a 4 bedroom x 2 bathroom with a powder room, theatre. And let's not forget the kitchen and scullery any cook would envy. ... But before you pick up the sledge hammer, what makes a good renovation? A good renovation takes a systematic approach. 1. Together with an expert () first make sure it's worth doing a renovation. A building inspection can determine whether the exisiting house is in good condition to sustain a renovation and the builder can also advise if there are any site restrictions or difficulty. It's also important to note the direction the home faces and if extended areas would be exposed to natural light or not. 2. Is it worth it? While a renovation may seem like the more cost-effective option, this isn't always the case. Carrying out a cost-benefit analysis will determine whether a renovation is worth your while or, if you're better off with a new build. 3. Check shire and DA requirements. If the home is exceptionally old, it's likely shire requirements or design codes have changed over time. It's important to consider what these implications may have on your renovation. 4. Get your neighbours on side. Sounds silly right? But the last thing you want is to go through the hassle of design renovation and a neighbour knocking back your balcony overlooking the pool or similar. 5. Always, always write a wish list! Write a list of all your wants, must haves, what you're hoping to achieve and why, what you want to spend, what goes in, what comes out, who uses the spaces and what for, timeframes and anything else you need to refer back on when making a decision. And lastly, make sure you hire an experienced and highly skilled building renovator. This would be the point where we would give ourselves a shameless plug right?
