21.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Tournament - Sun, 15 Sep A few important updates about tomorrow's tournament. All competitors should have already received information from their instructors about these updates, but just in case, here's a quick review. * Schedule of events - please see image. Please note, this is a guide only, actual times may vary.... * Venue change - due to lower than expected number of entries the tournament has been moved to the dojo. Sunshine Coast Karate, 2/14 Depot St, Maroochydore. * Due to the change in venue, this will be a 1 ring tournament and space for spectators is a little bit limited. We have some chairs available, but possibly not enough for all spectators. If you can help by bringing your own chair that would be appreciated. * Canteen/BBQ - we will be running a canteen with a variety of baked goods, snacks, drinks, sausage sizzle and the meal of the day will be butter chicken & rice. Funds raised from the canteen will go back to the association, with a view to supporting local athletes at the 2022 Soke Cup in Japan. * Marshalling area and warm up area for the tournament will be in the upstairs training space, competition with be in the main training space. * Tournament raffle - thanks to a generous donation from Malouf Pharmacies, arranged by Julie-Anne Hargraves, we will running a raffle (see photo of the prize). Tickets are on sale now and will also be available at the tournament for $1 each. Winner will be drawn at the end of the tournament. Good luck to all competitors!

21.01.2022 Dont forget we have our earthquake relief fund-raiser coming up very soon. We are still looking for donations for prizes. Just drop them off at the desk in the dojo.

19.01.2022 This year's Japan training scholarship recipient, Klaudia Caston is now on her way to Japan, with Sensei Sandra Phillips, Sam Hunt, Sami Phillips & Steven Phillips. They will have 2 weeks of training at the Sohonbu dojo with Soke Sensei and other senior instructors before the rest of our local Soke Cup team arrives for the tournament. Klaudia will be posting regular blog posts along the way. In fact here's her first post from a few days ago. http://www.karatedo.org.au/japan-//preparations-for-japan/

18.01.2022 Happy New Year from your association! What best way to celebrate a new year of karate training than to kick start 2020 with a new fundraiser for our club? Grill'd Sunshine Plaza is helping us with their Local Matters fundraising opportunity. For those who don't know much about Grill'd and the Local Matters program, Grill'd is a healthy (and yummy!!) burger joint that puts up a monthly fundraising event which sees three different local community groups challenge for a piece of... the $500 monthly donation. Three jars are set up near the register at Grill'd and when you make a purchase, you receive tokens to put into the jar of your choice. The community group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives $300 and the other groups get $100 each. So if you happen to be wandering at the Sunshine Plaza between the 1st and 31st January, grab a Grill'd burger and support your club! Tell your families and friends and let's get voting! Your association is hard at work looking for opportunities like this one and we are very excited for the year to come! Watch this space to find out more on what we've been up to!

17.01.2022 Tournament schedule updated. Due to a few last minute withdrawals from competitors, we have updated the schedule of events for this Sunday's Sunshine Coast Tournament (2 April). 12.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Tournament schedule of events is now set. Please note, it is a bit longer day than normal. But in the lead up to the Soke Cup, we wanted to give everyone more kumite match practice, so all divisions will be double elimination. It's good for more match practice under tournament conditions, but on the downside, it makes for a longer day. I look forward to seeing everyone at the tournament.

10.01.2022 Had a fantastic weekend at training camp this weekend. It was a great weekend of learning and growth. A big thank you to Sensei Adam for organising it. Here are a few snaps from the weekend, morning training, waiting for breakfast, fun and games before training and some of the demonstrations from the last session today. There are some much bigger cameras than my phone around so I'm sure there will soon be some much better photos to enjoy!

10.01.2022 Thanks everyone for getting your entries in for the Sunshine Coast tournament coming up this weekend. There are going to be some tough divisions. Looking forward to it. Please note: For this tournament, all kumite events will be double elimination draws in order to give everyone maximum practice under match conditions. This means, in order to be knocked out of the kumite competition, you will need to lose twice, so everyone will get at least 2 matches. Please refer to the sample draw for more info.

10.01.2022 Tournament mats for sale. Were soon upgrading our tournaments mats and will be selling off the mats shown in this picture. They will be sold on a first come first served basis at a cost of $10 per mat. Mats are 1m x1m x 40mm. To buy new, cost would be: $55 each, plus shipping. So dont hesitate, we dont expect theyll be around for long.... http://www.zebraathletics.com.au/zebra-puzzle-mats-40mm These mats are about 10 years old, but have only ever been used for tournaments. The surface is a still in very good condition, but some of the joints are a little broken, but for a home dojo, there should still be a lot of use left in them. If youre interested, reply to this post or send a private message with the quantity you require.
