20.01.2022 well done to my legendary brother in law Len Wignall, who has collected over 60 bags of road side rubbish as part of his physical health routine whilst holidaying in BROOME again this year
19.01.2022 Anvil Beach near Denmark on Western Australia's beautiful south coast was the location of our Albany MD team and chapter cleanup. This beach is notorious for mi...cro-plastics, and sadly, this visit was no different. Our determined volunteers scoured the sand and found a large volume of microplastics. Although too many to count on this visit, our team was satisfied to know they have now been removed and are no longer a threat. Our team also noted that the dunes had collapsed quite significantly in areas. Hopefully, this can be restored and doesn't worsen as they are a vital component of our coastline. August 22nd will see our fantastic southwest team conduct a public beach clean in conjunction with Hopetoun Community Centre. If you're in the area, they'd love to meet you. Event details can be found here - https://www.facebook.com/events/647909246075862/ For the oceans! #StemtheTide #EveryPieceCounts #SeaShepherdAlbany

15.01.2022 I sent this to the Minister for Main Roads. Main Roads raises resources to reduce roadside rubbish 23/10/2018 10:00 AM... Successful anti-litter program gets funding boost of $400,000 Program has resulted in 70 per cent reduction in highway roadside litter Funding will enable the expansion and continuation of litter reducing program A program that has successfully reduced roadside litter by about 70 per cent in some roadside locations has been given a $400,000 boost. Here is a letter I sent recently to Main Roads. Please put someone on to it. it's a disgrace. Yours, Jon Doust Main Roads I’ve had enough. On my drive down Albany Highway to North Bannister, I counted around 20 abandoned witches’ hats and numerous abandoned roadside signs, often with their accompanying sandbags. As if the refuse that blows from the backs of waste disposal trucks storming down Albany highway carrying city-citizen debris was not enough. As if the debris discarded by travellers heading south was not enough? As if the great loads of household waste dumped by citizens reluctant to pay council fees was not enough. Then there is the roadside infrastructure left by road workers. Main Roads, please, put your house in order and ensure that contracted road teams clear up their debris once their job is done. Send someone now to pick up what is left and add a clause in future contracts that makes the contractors clean up, or be charged for the clean up. Here is a list of the names I noted on vehicles: Super Civil, Maarli Biddi Traffic Services, Rural Traffic Services, West Coast Profilers, Sims Civil.

12.01.2022 Yes Sherry ! David Attenborough would be Proud This not so big grandmother Sherry Josway, tackled Menang Road today for four hours, collecting nine massive ...bags of roadside rubbish. You are awesome and need to be very proud of your mammoth effort. The rubbish on this road is frightening Come on Tossers we can do way better please. This takes our 2020 bag count to 298 !! 11.01.2022 I left Perth on Tuesday 8.45am, on Fwy North, my heart bleeds for the world and those in bumper to bumper slow moving traffic heading to central Perth ..... banked up from Perth to Joondalup ... how grateful it is not me repeating that everyday..... 09.01.2022 Another 7 bags roadside rubbish into this beautiful location
07.01.2022 Have you seen the recent research by the Institute of Technology Kharagpur? Testing to see the plastic degradation of plastic lined paper cups they discovered 2...5,000 microplastic particles leeched into a 100ml cup of water (water was boiled to 85-90 degrees Celsius and left in the cup for 15 minutes). Although barista made coffees are made with milk heated to around 60 degrees Celsius the coffee shot will be extracted into the cup at around 93 degrees. This heat won’t remain at that temperature for long as it will be mixed with the 60 degree milk so a similar study at temperatures mimicking a takeaway coffee would be ideal. However this still likely means that your cup of coffee (and definitely tea) in a takeaway cup will likely be served with a dose of micro plastics! #microplastics #takeawaycoffee #perthhappenings #circulareconomy #waronwaste #perthcafe #writesolutions @responsiblecafes graphic credit.
07.01.2022 I may not be home but there is always this constant ..... roadside rubbish Collected 10 bags in 500 metres The lovely cows and kangaroo kept me company How are the northern collectors going ?
07.01.2022 As some of us have been saying, when the ocean smashes the beach at Beenalup (Middleton), the debris the wall contructors have failed to pick up after them will be revealed. Or worse, washed out to sea.
06.01.2022 Doesn't it make you...
04.01.2022 WELL DONE, KIDS! Taking time out of school holidays to pick up plastic from Trigalow Beach at Bremer Bay Picture: @pickupplasticbremerbay/Instagram
04.01.2022 Total bag count for 600 m over three days , 23 bags , one mattress and one large plastic roller up blind. Such a beautiful spot, so much rubbish through this precious river system and wetlands at South Yunderup
03.01.2022 Balloons do not go to heaven. They land in the ocean and choke sea turtles, kill dolphins and whales, and the ribbons entangle birds. Many times, they end up on... a beach as litter. Even the ones marked "biodegradable" can hurt animals before they have a chance to break down. Animals far from the ocean, such as horses, have been hurt and killed by balloons (they eat them when they land in their hay or they get spooked and bolt). Some balloons have started fires when they got entangled in power lines. Sky lanterns have set homes, power lines, trees, and buildings on fire. Sky lanterns can also entangle an animal even if it is marketed as "biodegradable." There are many safe alternatives to releasing litter into the air, such as planting a tree for your loved one and watching it bloom, or blowing bubbles into the air. Grief is a painful process. In our grief, we do not need to cause others grief. While there are many environmental problems facing our planet, this is a very simple one to solve.
01.01.2022 MONDAY ON MENANG! Carried on from Sherry’s hard work from Karlingup Rd on Menang Road heading east for only 500 m. Great work Jen and Len. ... 7 huge bags of rubbish and 3.5 bags of recyclables , plus a lot of huge debris This takes our yearly total to 309 !!!!! We took our recyclables in which totalled 292 pieces ...... This means 292 times a brainless human made the decision it was ok to toss rubbish out the window over this 500m length of Menang Road, if we counted the pieces of rubbish collected in the same area it would too overwhelming (for me anyway)
01.01.2022 THE FINAL PICK-UP After 43 years walking the back streets of Derby picking up cans and bottles, David Tang (also known as 'China') thinks this could be his ...last. "I've got to stop soon. I've been doing it so many years and I'm getting too old. I'll be 70 in another 3-4 months," he said. Well known to the community, David collects littered cans and bottles from around town almost daily. It's not on a small scale either. "I've probably got over half a million items here (in my backyard)", he said. It is both a hobby and a business to David, who has turned his backyard into a home recycling plant, where he stores and separates the plastic from cans and glass, to be picked up and sold for recycling. Right now he has nine months worth of recycling in his backyard. "It's like my therapy. I probably walk at least 15-20km a day. I could probably walk around Australia now," he said. "I like to see the place tidy and it's my therapy because I had some brain damage, shock treatment when I was young, and sometimes I forget things and it keeps me thinking."
