25.01.2022 Had the absolute pleasure to meet one of my idols Li Cunxin, the man behind the story of Mao's Last Dancer on Monday when I was invited by DMK Group to the Women in Tax lunch. A truly inspiring man and was honoured to be in the presence of such greatness. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie I strongly encourage you to do so, one of life's great stories about determination, courage, hard work and a little bit of luck.

18.01.2022 One of the best articles I have read about giving direct constructive feedback with a supportive approach, which I have always advocated with my clients. If you manage people, heck if you ever need to give anyone feedback, take 5 minutes to read this. It will help both you and the person receiving the feedback.

17.01.2022 You are likely aware of the story doing the rounds that "unfriending" someone on Facebook is bullying. This sounds crazy as a worker is bullied if a person or group of people REPEATEDLY act unreasonably towards them or a group of workers and the behaviour creates a risk to health and safety. If you dig a little deeper, there's more to the story with a combination of a meeting that occurred on the same day as the Facebook unfriending and the Facebook unfriending appearing to ...be the straw that broke the camels back. The individual had alleged 18 incidents which occurred from November 2013 to January 2015, 9 of which the Commission upheld. The bully also: - did not say good morning to the individual, but did to others - did not deliver photocopying and printing to the individual, but did to others - when asked to send an appraisal letter urgently sent it via mail rather than e-mail which is the normal practice which resulted in the individual losing the sale. - didn't give the individual fair representation in the front window display (it was a Real Estate agency). - when the individual raised this with her Manager (who to complicate things is also the husband of the bully) in January 2015 the bully said to her she was a "naughty little school girl running to the teacher" - told the individual to sit down when she tried to leave the meeting and stood in front of the door. The bully then unfriended the individual after this meeting. After this meeting the individual checked Facebook as she was concerned that the bully may have posted something about the meeting on there, only to find that she had been unfriended. After the unfriending (and the meeting that directly proceeded it) the individual became depressed and highly anxious. Some may argue that the behaviour above may not constitute unreasonable behaviour but at least its good to be aware of the full story and a good reminder of the importance of "unconditional positive regard".
