23.01.2022 Prost! Housies toasted Oktoberfest with a German-themed tabiat selasa. On the deutsche menu - German sausages with mustard and sauerkraut, bretzels, apple cake, Knoppers, and German beer tasting. Fun activities included a German word pronunciation competition, a German Kahoot, and a game of flunky ball with water instead of beer. Danke schön to Britney, Ben, Leon, and Pieter for brainstorming and organising the event. Grab a fabric patch from reception and hand paint or colour it to add your own personal signature. Check out these sensational sail swatches Housies already handed in. Talented IH groundsman Pete built our IH sloop from totally sustainable materials he scavenged around college. 11.01.2022 A reunion 53 years in the making! 1966/67 alumnus William (Bill) Longstaff and IH Fellow/Foundation resident John Boyd met up together at IH. Bill had returned 'home' to stay a few nights in the Housie towers and both men enjoyed reminiscing about their unforgettable IH days more than half a century ago. Bill got a kick out of seeing his name on the Ivor Cribb Hall Honour Board celebrating his 1968 University Medal (Mathematics) and looking at old college photos. Bill enjoyed meeting the current Housies and chatting with them about the IH experience particularly how much the core values of global diversity and inclusion have remained the same. #IH #ihouseuq #housies #alumni #campuslife #memories #tradition #culture #StudentAccommodation #studenthousing #livingUQ

10.01.2022 Dear IH Community, It has been a few months since I communicated with you directly and as we approach the end of the academic year I am touching base again. The second half of the year was and is significantly different from the first, but in many ways given the COVID-19 situation has been really encouraging. It was wonderful to have residents return to us in Semester 2, be it a smaller cohort. Our aim was to make it as normal and as fun as possible and I feel we achieved t...hat objective, as well as ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being. I would very much like to thank all of those residents who returned to IH, as well as the support of their parents and guardians. I must say overall, despite a petite cohort we punched above our weight in terms of Housie participation in ICC events. IH placed third in the One Act Play, first in Artfest, and for the first time in our college history, we won the Weighted Sporting Shields for men and women. Our aim, as always, is participation and enjoyment and by linking with Grace College we were assisted in the sporting space. We also managed to run a very successful Bandfest - UQ Colleges Battle of the Bands - at IH with an added virtual component. We had a delightful IH Ball Gatsby themed experience, and celebrated our Valedictory/Soirée themed dinner to round out the semester. This semester was made possible by the outstanding contributions of the IH Student Club Executive, our residents as well as the IH staff and Board. 2021 COVID-19 still poses some challenges moving forward but we are encouraging current residents to return next year as well as welcoming a new cohort for O Week in February. A new IH Student Club Executive has been elected and we are ready to go. IH will remain open for the Christmas period for students doing summer courses as well as those who may need accommodation since they are not able to return home. Your continued support is very much appreciated and I look forward to 2021. Dr Carla Tromans IH Director
