22.01.2022 BIG THANKS! We needed some help and you did it! Out off all the tickets sold this holiday, about 30% were hockey people - not to mention all the referrals they generated. You made a real difference to the centre, the Rollerway Crew, and to keeping hockey & skating going. THANK-YOU VERY MUCH! credit: Jayden Stapleton Photography ( what it says on Taylah's jersey ;) )
22.01.2022 Our hockey family deserves the unabridged version! It's not like there's much on, after you've walked the dog...twice. If you are wondering what might happen after 1st of June, or after 21st of June, there are TWO BIG ISSUES, which means that it’s unclear what will happen then, at the moment. For our hockey friends & families, it means that there is no possibility of games, in the foreseeable future, and that training would be limited 10 people (it's NOT 20 for group acti...Continue reading

19.01.2022 DON’T BE A SAD PERSON * Keep an eye on this page! (IIHAA) Don’t like Facebook? We don’t like COVID-19 or bankruptcy either, so keep an eye in IIHAA!... * Keep an eye on the website (www.rollerway.com.au/inline-hockey) * Buy your tickets early, so we can plan your sessions better (please) * Read what it says on the ticketing pages: https:// bookwhen.com/rhl You might get calls from Ash’s, Tam’s, or Rollerway’s phone numbers please respond - read their texts too, please. Our sad attempt at SAD humour is obviously to get your attention. In the past 30 years, Geelong has been an inline hockey powerhouse, with the Bisons, Rhinos, Raiders, Rangers, Snipers, and many other teams. It’s no BS that we are huge compared to almost anyone in AUS or NZ, but we have never, ever, been in a position where we are today, and it could ALL be gone tomorrow. We can’t waste resources and we need YOU to get your friends to come (or come back) to play. PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN!
19.01.2022 You’re invited to visit our friends, near Wollongong. WHAT?! Skating 850 kilometres!! How is that possible? To entertain and keep you fit during the Lockdown, we have found a way, and we’ll tell you more tomorrow. Don’t worry, we are COVID safe and no one will be arrested! [REPOST]
18.01.2022 We need your help to make it happen! For now, indoor sports are starting to happen for 18 years & younger! It’s important to get leagues running before Christmas, so that we can regain some momentum, and don’t trash the whole sport. So, please get your tickets for: TUESDAY & THURSDAY PEEWEES TUESDAY’S U18 SOFT PUCK TOURNAMENT WEDNESDAY’S HARD PUCK TOURNAMENT We have such little time to balance things up and make it work, but if y’all can get tickets, ticket sales mean commitment, and we can therefore finalise teams. Sorry for the pressure, but get the tickets tonight, if possible, please?
16.01.2022 HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY Oi! Oi! Oi! Well, hasn’t the Universe changed in the last 3 months!? Excited to get back to hockey?! The plan hasn’t really changed since our last official post on 13 June. From Monday, 13 July, we will have 2 weeks of scrimmages (informal practice games) followed by a week of long-overdue Grand Finals. ... Please help us help you; our resources are really stretched, so please read and act on the following: * You will need to pre-purchase tickets to participate * Try to scrimmage with your teammates (optional) * You may buy tickets to consecutive practices - don’t be too greedy * Provided it’s at a similar level, you may attend another night’s practice e.g. Mon & Tue Soft Puck, or Tue & Thu Peewees * Read the procedures here: https://www.rollerway.com.au/inline-hockey * Buy your tickets here: https://bookwhen.com/rhl Hope you all have fun getting fit again, where applicable PLEASE bear with us, as there is much going on behind the scenes

13.01.2022 Hockey News via Geelong Indy and their star sport's reporter!
12.01.2022 [repost @rollerwayskatecentre] We owe our hockey family so much, not least of which is the Grand Finals' week for last season. We don't shy away from making a stand, but we are 300 hockey players not 300 Spartans. No point risking it all for something that will blow over in just a few weeks. General skating will be starting soon, and hockey will follow. First a bit of training, then a little later, the "real thing!" Stay safe - see you on the rink, soon
12.01.2022 In about 36 hours we will be closed for about 6 weeks! If we don’t see you today or tomorrow, for our pre-hiatus hockey, we hope to see you soon. Stay safe, do the right thing, and take care skaters! [repost]
12.01.2022 So...looks like it's happening. The centre should have work finished by 25 June, then there are 67 school holiday sessions from 26 June until 12 July. AND THEN, just in time, we can get everyone back to real hockey. We'll have more info & answers soon! As always, thanks for your patience and support.
12.01.2022 We're hoping to keep the temp rink up for the next few weeks, ANYBODY able to loan or donate the following ASAP, please: *One or up to 24 bike locks *Multiples of 1m lengths of chain & sturdy locks *Temporary-fencing FEET (we have fencing) (Or Large Bricks suitable for Temp-fence FEET)... *Heavy Gauge Wire suitable for Temp-fence repairs *Silver Spray Paint (we'll keep that, paint loans don't work!) The crews that have volunteered to provide a nocturnal presence will finish up Sunday, and we would like to further improve security by tomorrow night. If not, we'll have to pack up the rink, only operating Fri-Sun for a further 3 weeks, and then shut-down all activity (out of necessity) until 23 November - as per Vic Gov Restrictions. Sorry Cassidy! Photo credit: Jayden Stapleton Photography See more
09.01.2022 Thought we would share with you the type of posters we are going to have on display, as soon as you walk into the centre. We always thought hockey would be the first thing to resume, but it's looking like it might be after the school holidays, with games resuming around the time the Stanley Cup playoffs begin (August?). We may have found a way to make our general sessions viable, and when it comes to hockey, there’s one thing we didn’t mention in our last post. Even though w...e were talking about the financial pressures facing our hockey, we can almost never raise the price by much more than the rate of inflation. So, sorry to disappoint, but we can’t put up prices too much because one of our greatest secrets in running a successful regional competition, is numbers. We need lots of people to keep it interesting, give people variety and options, offer various balanced levels, and both social and competitive leagues. Most people would understand, if prices went up in keeping with the new normal, but a few would drop out not that many, but enough to weaken teams or make a few non-viable. There would also be a deterrent, especially in tough times, when it comes to recruiting new players (adults or kids or entire families). The damage might not be immediately obvious, but within a couple of seasons, the comp would be down 25-30% and within 4 or 5 years it would be...a shadow of its former self. What to do? For most of you, nothing. Any accountants out there? We may have mentioned opportunity cost before. What that means is that we are trying to divert people and resources to where they can be more effective, and get help from those of you who can, allowing us to save on third party costs. Hopefully, most of you will not notice a big difference. You can turn up, play, go home repeat. We are looking at training a new crew of volunteers, referees, coaches, and support people. If this works and we are optimistic it’s back to Happy Hockey in no time!
