05.01.2022 Dangerous actions by driver at West Dapto. I received a message from a member of our club about the antics of a driver along West Dapto Road, Dapto. Now as a cyclist we know that at times drivers are not happy with our riding styles, especially those who continue to ride 2 abreast on a single lane road. Going back to this incident. The rider was riding along when a driver in a Green Hyundia threw a bottle out the window trying to hit the rider. To think this was just a simple case of littering is absurd. This was a conscious act, that could have led to an horrific outcome. The police are investigating this driver and hopefully he/she will be dealt with as expected by the public. So, if you are riding out along West Dapto Road, please be careful.
04.01.2022 As Royal National Park south of Sydney is a popular area for cyclists from many regions, Cycling NSW would like to advise clubs of changed traffic arrangements in RNP, especially as school holidays commence this weekend. Sir Bertram Stevens Drive is currently closed between Wises track and Bundeena Drive. As a result, motor vehicle traffic has increased along McKell Avenue because more drivers are entering and exiting at Waterfall. It is expected that during the school holida...ys, traffic will increase even more along McKell Avenue. Cyclists should exercise caution when descending or ascending McKell Avenue to and from Waterfall. You could also consider entering and exiting via Lady Wakehurst Drive towards Helensburgh to avoid most of the traffic. You can find more information about the closures here: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//royal-n/local-alerts
04.01.2022 We were back on track last night (pun intended) with both Juniors and the 100 lapper running successfully. Thanks to all involved for adapting to some slightly different processes in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines. Hope to see everyone back next week.
03.01.2022 ICC juniors represented ICC at the Hunter Junior Tour with enthusiasm and skill. With weather not always on there side. Unfortunately the U13 didn't get to race yesterday due to the awful weather conditions. Thanks to Hunter district cycle club for running an amazing weekend of racing. In the U13 boys Gabriel Jackobsen and Tom Ions on Saturday raced hard with Gabriel finishing 5th GC and Tom 7th In the U15 girls Charlotte gave racing a great first go with a smile ... In the U15 boys Nathanael Burns tried racing for the first time and was able to mix it with the big boys. In U17 Women the Illawarra girls fought it out all weekend. Sarah cliff finished first GC, Bronte 2nd GC and Emily 4th GC. Sarah got first TT, crit and second road race. While Bronte got first road race and second TT and crit. In the U17 men Ryan won the Crit and 3rd road race. But the ride of the day was Jonahs breakaway to win the road race in awful rain conditions. His smile says it all. Great racing by all
03.01.2022 Are you new to cycling? Or been doing it for a while? Or don't cycle but want to be a more cyclist-aware driver? This 10 minute video provides some great insights to the most common causes of bike-car collisions. It also includes tips for cyclists and drivers on how to avoid those collisions. The video is US based so the left / right references might be reversed for us in AU. However, there are some really good points in there that are well worth learning or refreshing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C3nGvnMRXI
02.01.2022 Illawarra Cycle Club running championship taken out by Grace Jakobsen. The 2020 running championship was a close event at the Unanderra velodrome. Our juniors put their running shoes on to see who is the fastest runner in our club. Well done to all competitors and especially Grace. Grace took home a junior skin suit for winning the event. On behalf of our wonderful coaches and ICC committee we wish everyone a safe holiday.
02.01.2022 ROYAL NATIONAL PARK ROAD CLOSURES Roadies and Gravel bike types - this will definitely be of interest: Transport for NSW has announced the closure of Flat Rock... Bridge in the Royal National Park for two months. The closure of Flat Rock Bridge will run from 4 September until late October. The closure is required for the replacement of the 75 year old bridge which has structural issues. The narrow bridge has also been a pinch point for traffic when large trucks crossover it. The existing bridge will be removed and a new prefabricated replacement bridge will be dropped into place. As a result of the construction there will be no road access via the bridge between Princes Highway and the towns of Bundeena and Maianbar. Commuters and visitors will need to drive via the alternate route using the Waterfall Royal National Park entrance.
