25.01.2022 Here's Chord-eaux's updated cover photo. Chord-eaux, an Illawarra-based folk band formed in 2009 by Illawarra folk musicians, plays concerts in aged care facilities and community events. Chord-eaux has sponsorship as a community band from Wollongong City Council. #keepfolkalive

25.01.2022 One of IFF's most inspiring & talented artists, Ken Field, is busy finding new performance outlets, promoting other artists, collaborating in new work. After enjoying HONK OZ!, & Hoot Band at IFF, this should come as a surprise to no one! Follow him on Face Book to find out just what he's up to!

24.01.2022 Here's some important news from Comrade Big Russ about 2020's last Illawarra Folk Club concert on 21 Nov! #keepfolkalive >>UPDATE UPDATE - Sat 21st November - Michael Simic in Concert - Same Great Concert in a Great New Venue You may be aware that The Wollongong Golf Club has taken over the management of the Wollongong City Diggers Club from 1st November.... Sadly, they have advised that our Michael Simic and Dear Violet Concert, that was booked with the Diggers Club, will not be allowed to take place at the Diggers Club on 21st November. The reason given was that Licensed Clubs are not allowed to hold live concerts under the Covid rules. As this Great Southern Nights concert is one of 1000 gigs being held all over NSW, in licensed clubs, pubs and function centres, and has already been approved and vetted by the NSW Gov't, the NSW Department of Health with the close partnership of Clubs NSW and Aria and Destination NSW, we really don't understand the reasoning behind this decision of the Wollongong Golf Club. Albion Park RSL has kindly stepped into the breech, having fulfilled all the COVID, safety, and Great Southern Nights requirements. This will still be your last chance to see a folk concert in the Illawarra this year. A great concert with Michael Simic launching his single "Dark Moon". If you are a regular at our Bulli Festival you might know Michael as the Balkan Elvis OR you may know him as Mikelango (as in Mikelangelo and The Dead Sea Gentlemen). And, fresh from their success in the HSC, supporting Michael will be our very own harmony trio, (Andrews Sisters eat your heart out), Dear Violet. SOME TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE BUT BOOK ASAP! https://events.humanitix.com/great-southern-nights-and-the- Come out and celebrate New Beginings and Farewell the weird year; 2020

24.01.2022 Another great concert with local Illawarra talent. Be quick to get your tickets - the recent concerts have all been sell-outs!

The first of our concerts is ‘I Remember Peter’. As most people know we lost Peter Butler, an esteemed committee and life member of the club earlier this month. Chloe & Jason Roweth Chloe & Jason bring you the songs and poems of the kitchen, the verandah, the shearer’s huts, the local pub - and the yarns that go with them. "Are there any two people who have enriched Australian traditional musical and poetic life more? I don’t think so; they are the best, and are pure gold in their integrity." - Polly Garland Pat Drummond As Luke O'Shea states "It will take generations for most of us, as writers, to catch up to where Pat Drummond has been. No matter which course you take through this wild music industry, at the end of every path you will find Pat's mark on the tree." As his success at Folk festivals; Country Festivals, Arts Festivals, pubs, clubs and Community Concerts has demonstrated, he draws his fans from people of very different ages and social backgrounds. His songs, which deal with fundamental human values like Integrity, Honesty, Fortitude, Independence, and Enterprise are often funny, sometimes angry, but always hopeful and they are mirrors in which your audiences will see at least a little of themselves. An Evening with Pat Drummond is not one you will easily forget.

22.01.2022 Illawarra Stories is an oral history project of Wollongong City Libraries, capturing people’s recollections of life in the Illawarra. You may recall seeing volunteers during IFF 2020 helping collect stories & fun memorabilia about the festival. The poster wall was just part of the project. We'll share links to the stories collected in future posts. https://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/library #keepfolkalive Locals bring to life the importance of their community through stories and build a picture that otherwise may be lost.

16.01.2022 Illawarra Folk Club is back with another concert - Friday 28 April. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. And another great line up with ABC Morning Host, Nick Rheinberger teaming up with Tia Wilson (Tia Juana). Nick and Tia have been thrown together as the hilarious co-hosts of several Illawarra Folk Festival finales, and now they’re a duo in life and on stage. But in a world of starry-eyed romance, they are brutal realists. Be warned. Then there are the ‘Swinging Arms’ who are Stuart Alexand...er and Kylie Pickford. The Swingin Arms were Conceived in a Petri dish consisting of 70% alcohol, which made them COVID immune. They write their own songs and are patiently waiting for a $million dollar record deal. Oh! we forgot they are very entertaining musicians who led 'The Calamaties' and 'The Guilty Three". Finally there is the ‘High Country’, Brett Sargent and John Nichols with one addition. The only complaint at the Breakout was that we had a whole folk concert without an accordion player. Well Brett and John have rectified that and they have asked Greg Costello, The Illawarra’s finest exponent of the dreaded instrument to join them for the night. (we should add here that Tia is also a very fine exponent of the accordion).
