14.01.2022 In recent times we have had an influx of clients with really bad soap scum build up in their hair due to using shampoo bars Whilst I love the idea of no packaging & being environmentally friendly, this is NOT adequate hair care for colour treated hair. Shampoo bars are not prescriptive for hair concerns. Alkaline products blast open the cuticle, & the colour molecules are likely to fall out, dulling & fading colour FAST. Colouring processes such as lightening the hair can c...ompromise the hairs porosity & elasticity, adding a shampoo bar for home care in-between salon visits can be extremely damaging & drying only causing further damages the hairs condition. - Alkaline products can increase the negative electrical charge of the hair. This may lead to cuticle damage & fibre breakage. - The outer layer cuticle cells will not lay flat & the cells then catch on each other causing friction, knots & tangles. - The cuticle is covered in a fine layer of bound hair lipids made up of fatty acids. Their function is to protect the cuticle, help reduce friction and also to repel water. Alkaline products are known to strip these fatty acid lipids. Over time, this will start to affect the overall health of the hair. - This protective lipid layer, there is another negative affect which is that the hair becomes more water loving (hydrophilic). This happens when the hair has been damaged and leads to more water entering & swelling the hair shaft, lifting the cuticle cells & resulting in even more friction & damage. - In contact with water it leaves an alkaline residue that is harmful to the hair in the form of calcium salts which accumulate in the hair strands, leaving them opaque & tangled. The soap scum can also cause reactions with colour & itching, exacerbate redness, scaly patches & dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) & leave the hair dull. - Using a acidic cider vinegar rinse will NOT undo the damage caused by an alkaline product. Please if you are investing in your hair with getting it coloured in salon use the correct home care prescribed by a professional hairdresser, this is a MUST in your hair washing regime!

We are asking you to reschedule your appointment if you have any flu-like symptoms such as; coughing, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath. 05.01.2022 SPLIT ENDS Split ends & broken hair fibres can cause the hair to look dry, straggly & uneven at the ends, with the lengths looking flat & dull. Why? When the cuticles (the overlapping scales that cover the hair strands core) are damaged, they dont lie down flat against the fibre. This means the light does not reflect as well off the hair, which is why people with split ends often notice a lack of luminosity & depth. These damaged cuticles are also less supple, which mean...s they do not lie smoothly against one another, but have a tendency to tangle, create knots, & break even further. Often colour treated hair with split ends will fade very quick due to the above. How can you prevent split ends? Wondering how to get rid of split ends? When the hair strand is split or fractured, the only solution to restore a healthy fibre is to book in for a trim regularly (6-8 weeks). Once freshly trimmed you can start your prevention plan. Split ends are caused by the weakening of the hair shaft & the splitting of the fibre, therefore prevention comes in the form of damage avoidance & control, as well as an adapted haircare routine to keep the hair shaft moisturised. An often-unknown cause of split ends or damage to the hair is towel drying & harsh brushing. Rubbing against the hair too roughly can weaken the cuticles & even break the fibre. Instead gentle squeeze out the water. For essential detangling, a Wetbrush with a detangling spray can help minimise damage & breakage. Also environmental conditions like the weather/elements (wind, rain, sun, minerals, chemicals, water ect) can also affect the quality of your hair, making it more prone to damage which can cause split ends. Heat damage is one of the major causes of split ends & fly-aways because, when too high, it breaks the chemical bonds, which normally provide strength to the hair fibre. This is why we recommend to only use heat tools with a heat gage to control temperatures, & most importantly always use a heat protective prior. Afterpay available P.S Yesterday the salons lighting wasnt quite enough to show this beautiful colour off, we had to head out to the back of the building near the Post Office in hopes of finding more natural light This rarely ever happens because the salon is nearly all glass usually has heaps of natural lighting We battled a few elements out there, too much light, too little light or just when the lighting was perfect wind comes along & messes up everything, then the hair got static #hairdresserproblems nevertheless we got a few shots that showed the colour nicely
