23.01.2022 Proud to be a member of the Australian team contesting the World Photographic Cup! So stoked to be among the incredible artists on the team. Judging has already taken place; the finalists in each category as well as the Best Of Nation announcements take place at the end of January, then the final results in April. I've only made the team once before, and that was the one time Australia won the overall Cup! Coincidence? I think... maybe yes actually, but maybe it still bodes well for 2021!

16.01.2022 It's our end-of-year tradition to post a bunch of outtakes from headshots from during the year. Putting 2020’s collection together, two things were very clear. One - it's been a year like no other for performers. Things are picking up again now, but it was a year of hibernation for many people. And two - there's a lot of joy in these faces, and it reminds me how much I love working with Brisbane's talented performers, and how much I appreciate your trust in me to capture and deliver your best. We wish all the best to our clients, friends, and everyone out there in social-media-land for a brilliant 2021. 15.01.2022 The Viking Ship is remastered! Recently the @nzipp_national Iris Awards gave entrants the opportunity to reach back in to the archives and enter some older work. As a first time entrant that opened up lots of possibilities... Entering this image was a no-brainer, but I've learned a bit since this was first "completed", and I took the chance to remaster it. Cleaned up a few little things, cropped it a little tighter, gave it some more punch in the centre... Fixed the waves because the light was falling on them exactly the wrong way... The new version earned a Gold, so it must have been OK Which do you prefer, and why? (The first image is the new one, the second the original.)

11.01.2022 Pretty chuffed with some good results in the Cosmos Awards 2nd Trimester, with a 1st place in Creative Portrait Composite (that's this one, The Muse), 1st place in Creative Illustrative, 2nd place in Creative Travel and Landscape, and 3rd place in Portrait Teenager. The Cosmos Awards format is exciting - the top 5 images in each category from each of the three trimesters go to print judging for their Annual in 2021. Huge congrats to all of the entrants, especially my friend @afshinstagram, who kindly let me sneak in to 2nd place between his 1st and 3rd place entries in Travel/Landscape! Afshin it's so good to see your work getting the recognition it deserves

11.01.2022 The NZIPP's 2020 Iris awards are done and dusted! First year judging there, and first year entering as well. Bit of a spectacular never-to-be-repeated first year too, with 3 golds, 4 silver distinctions, 5 silvers and a bronze, mostly for images coming out of the archives. Lots and lots of Aussies entering, which makes it even cooler to have been a finalist for NZ International Professional Photographer of the Year, along with my friend and epic artist @foroughyavari, and the... well deserved winner, storyteller extraordinaire @nathanmaddigan! Massive congratulations Nathan, you are a superstar And massive congratulations also to the delightful @estherbmb, who won NZ Photographer of the Year with the most exquisite portfolio of portraits. Well done @nzipp_national on the awards; running this in 2020 is a big ask and you did it with style and grace! See more

11.01.2022 "We should all be the man with the red hat." I had the pleasure of speaking at the APS Live conference over the weekend. I use this image, Grownup Machine, as an example for one of the ideation techniques I teach. The image is a hat tip to my friend Scott, who manages to fuse responsible adulting with childlike whimsy, while most of the rest of us don't even look back at the childhood dreams we've shed. Jill Campbell was in the audience, and managed to answer a VERY DIFFICULT QUESTION and in doing so scored a print. This one is the one that resonated with her the most. She told me "we should all be the man with the red hat." She's right.

09.01.2022 Last weekend gave the new Canon R5 a proper run for some headshots and dance work, as well as a session with the delightful Ryan Goodwin. This camera, paired with the RF 28-70 f2 lens, is an absolute beast! Here is a straight-out-of-camera shot, experimenting at f2. F2 PEOPLE!! It was incredibly natural to move from the 5D to the R5, and I love this new setup. Strong work, Canon! Thanks Kristie from Kreature FX for your able assistance! Props to Kayell for securing the R5 for me, you always have the best service and are my first choice when I need equipment.

One of those excellent shoots that just evolves spontaneously - we knocked off the character portraits and hit the streets around Petrie Terrace to make some magic. This was a sneaky part of the Print Handlers print too - on a wall full of theatre promos

I'm not sure we pictured this exact thing for Act React Theatre's This Is Your Trial, but gosh it's fun. Here's Luke Rimmelzwaan, who when he is not securing loose barrels on Viking ships at sea (if you know my work) is known for his fine lawyering and his fine actoring.

08.01.2022 Back in 2011, I had the pleasure of performing in ImproMafia's Agatha Holmes, with genius Greg Rowbotham in the titular role. We made this piece to celebrate the rather erratic and energetic detective, alongside his long suffering sidekick Wastings (the also-genius David Massingham). After catching up with Greg on the weekend, it seemed fitting to post this! 10 years on and yes I would do things a little differently now, but I'm proud of it nonetheless. Another case solved by... AGATHA HOOOLLLMMMMEEESSSS!!!

04.01.2022 Super excited to be part of the The Heart Project's Christmas Wish project again in 2020! The team was lean and mean this year to keep everything covid-safe at Hummingbird House, our Brisbane location, which also meant adding Aussie Santa afterwards. Each year I do a one-off piece for a family. It's this family's third visit to the #hummingbirdhouse Christmas Wish studio, so it was quite nice to make them a special edit.
